  • How about inducing coma? Dangerous or just unethical?

  • @Swordsmoogle They can't, because doctors need to know what's coming next in terms of symptoms. In other words, dangerous.

  • perhaps fake and/or overdramaticized?....to promote awareness in australia

  • In Australia even sheep are poisonous! :D

  • sexy

  • Ouch.

Would wearing an ice diving hood help when you're diving in waters that have these? There are some balaclava-style hoods that cover almost the entire face.

Also, what about painkillers (opiates) that are stronger than morphine? Do they help?

  • @Schneelocke A navy SEAL was stung by one on a 1cm wide patch on his cheek, hed was dead in 20 minutes.Painkillers will have no effect on the pain, they are the deadliest of all Box Jellyfish types.

  • aaaaand fuck Australia......

  • Comment removed

  • Whoa.......

  • I would actually rather die quickly than go through that.

  • in this little jelly, venom structures (nematocysts) are on both the bell and the tentacles. What scientists don't know yet is if the bell and tentacles actually have different venoms that may cause different reactions.

  • To hell with waterboarding. Show this to the terrorist and show them the little vial containing the Irukandji. If they refuse to talk, pull the lid, pour it on em', and lock away the morphine. In a couple weeks, when they've gone back to normal, ask them the same questions. Bet you get answers.

  • @sixstringfretter Yes, but I think we should do this to the real terrorists, the government of America

  • Sorry, I am not being dragged into this arguement. Please move along.

  • @sixstringfretter without morphine the terrorists will probably die, these guys kill with pain, organs don't fail, you die from shock from the sheer torment the pain gives you.

  • Why does the commentator keep saying the deadly jelly? Hundeds if not Thousands of people have been stung by Irukandji, and only 2 died, both of which I believe had prevailing medical conditions. Sure, Irukandji syndrome is excruciatingly painful, but I'd hardly call it "deadly".

  • Was I the only one who was slightly aroused by the women's sensual moaning and writhing?

  • @SaviorThree

    Please get help.

  • @SaviorThree no XD

  • @SaviorThree definitely not. her legs writhing around at 5:23 .. yep, kinda hot.

  • Sounds like my cramps :o

  • If i was them i would scream be like this: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

  • @GhostTownLeader A young boy got stung by one of these, he screamed for so long he damaged his vocal cords

  • This is why I would wear a dry-suit instead.

  • @Piklethedoodad you dont need a dry suit a wet suit would do or even a lykra

  • I HAVE A CAGE OF FURRY COLOULERFUL JELLY FISH FOUR ARE INTRAPED

  • It's like the muggle version of the cruciatus curse.

  • @Cherruyue tvtropes actually compared it to that just go to australian wildlife

  • Why is suicide a tag?!?!

  • @MrAbt9283 because 2 idiots jump of a boat into a box jellyfish zone

you can call it suicide, fair and 'square'

  • an ill wind blows .. lol

  • Still... less painful than watching Jersey Shore.

  • at 5:22 the way her body writhes from the pain is disturbing, especially how her legs thrash around like that. looks awful.

  • I hope no scientist ever gets the idea to create a biological weapon out of this poison... that would make nukes look like weapons from stoneage...

  • Damn nature, you really is scary

  • Thats it! I'm swimming in pools!

  • why not use finer nets on the beach?

  • @mastercube500 ... They've already tried that. The problem is, is that the Irukandji is small enough to squeeze through

  • @mastercube500 Their bell is a cubic centimeter That's tiny.

  • Ultimate home defense, a moat filled with Irukandji

  • @HYPoKiiENT what about crocodiles that spit out irukandji and have box jellyfish tentacles for tails

  • Can someone please tell me why they aren't screaming in agony?

  • @amyanubis i'm sure the interview was at there best point, thanks to the morphine. He said his worry was her over there screaming away. crazy stuff.

  • @amyanubis Yeah, Justin Bieber sang to them while they were in the hospital !!!!!

  • @Tom6093 lmao x

  • @amyanubis The morphine

  • Im no jellyfish expert but i have to wonder why they didnt cover their heads in panty-hose, You can see through it and it stops the stingers.

  • Comment removed

  • @emotemp when you touch the jellyfishs' tentacle it shoots microscopic venomous needles..if just a little bit of venom gets into the blood stream and goes to your heart/ or head you end up like the did in the hospital..not as bad but still can be fatal.

  • @tacoholic The venom is on its belly, not the tentacles =)

  • @K4inan

WRONG, the venom is in the tentacles as well as the bell (head) portion.

  • @HeavyMetalhead86 I'm not wrong... The venom is on its belly ONLY.

  • I'm in the mood for calamari now.

  • Aussies are prisoners living in a poisoned land. They are cursed by Yeshua.

  • population control kill some of it.

  • why leave any part of ur body open if your goin in with them knowing the consequences?...wear a full mask like?..anyways tht guy has balls...speaking of the pain rating it while hes goin thru it..good video

  • why werent they freaking out when they got stung?

  • @webucdc probably because they've been stung before. and they know what to do when they get stung

  • bless them both, especially the brave and beautiful Therese :)

  • @utarian7 ikr? :) peace and blessings to everyone :) i hope no one else gets stung by any of these jellyfishes :S i just want people to be alright :)

  • if it's the pain, can't you just use morphine, painkillers, or induce coma?

  • @utarian7 They used morphine, but it doesn't take away the pain, and there is no way to know if you still feel pain even if you're in a coma.

  • F*** australia

  • My god, that is horrific.

If I were PM I would force all rapists and murderers to be subject to a sting from this little prick. I guarantee the crime rate would drop.

  • last week i was at whitsundays over a cruise. this chick got stung by box jelly fish.. that pain nearly killed her.

  • Yes, I got one on my leg, when i was in port douglas... sorry to say, but it was a pain not to withstand...lucky i got from it alive. Never ever!

  • How about covering the face too, MORONS.

  • I think I'll just stick to splashing around in my inflatable pool thank you.

  • In Canada, we are lucky enough to have a large amount of something called a lake.

I'll swim in fresh water and not die kthx.

  • I belive it is much much worse to bestung by an Irukandji than a Chironex fleckeri!

  • aaannndd that's why I swim in pools.

  • @chachachic14 OMG I thought I was the only one lol I go to the beach to watch ONLY and paddle on the shore like a dummy lol

  • Great, i can't enjoy the ocean without these little fuckers -_-

  • You should not swim to the ocean with marine stingers its dangerous

  • I wonder how a normal person would react to the pain

  • @MaddogMTG

    Wat? They aren't normal?

  • And finally, to nicely round it up, I figure, if you decide to take your chances in the tropics like Australia or wherever, never do it in secluded spots - make sure paramedics and a hospital just a phone call away; otherwise RIP.

  • The pain is an out of body experience some experts say .

  • this is like having sex with someone with AIDS and hope to get infected. FAIL!!

  • OMG

  • @nzrus ....DID YOU SEE THE OTHER VIDEO.......THEY ARE SHOWING UP ON THE COAST OF THE UNITED STATES.......A DIVER WAS STUNG RIGHT HERE IN THE FLORIDA KEYS.........DON'T GO SWIMMING IN THE U.S. WATERS.......STAY IN THE POOLS, LAKES..........OR YOU WILL GET STUNG..............GET OUT OF THE WATER...........THE MOST HORRIFIC PAIN YOU CAN'T EVEN IMAGINE.........AND YOU MAY DIE FROM THIS!

  • @justcruzzinn Scary. With all the pollution and treating the ocean as an never ending food source, soon we won't be abe able to swim anywhere unless fully covered like hardcore devote muslim women.

  • @nzrus ...I don't go swimming in the Ocean at all anymore.......I live 300 miles north of the keys on the beach......I don't DARE swim in it......I know the odds are small that I will get stung currently this year (2010) , BUT I AM TAKING NO CHANCES....ITS COMING ITS A MATTER OF TIME..........I AM SCARED TO DEATH OF THIS......THEY SAY THAT A PERSON WHO SURVIVES THIS STING IS PRAYING TO DIE THE FIRST 3 HOURS......YOUR MIND HAS A "SUICIDE" MODE OF THOUGHT...KILLING YOURSELF BECAUSE OF THE PAIN

  • @justcruzzinn I live in New Zealand and was thinking about moving up north to the Great Barrier in Australia, before I found out about their marine life ("death"?). A woman at work snorkelled there, they were told to put on suit so as "not to damage the reef" - not get damaged by irukandji most likely. As long as you are 100% covered you're OK. Safest place to swim is the Mediterranean (e.g. Cyprus), not a care in the world, but the underwater life a bit less colorful.

  • @justcruzzinn Further, as far as I know, though people get regularly stung, including children, most get over it (with the trademark feeling of impending doom that accompanies the pain). The last death from this micro Satan's creation was in 2002, when 2 guys met their maker and one, the American, Robert King got his jelly named after him: Malo Kingi. Those beasts are as old as life on Earth: the fossil of box jelly Anthracomedusa turnbulli found near Chicago, IL is about 300 million years old .

  • damnnnnnnn look at this i want a jellyfish to tat me up lmao

  • So, we have a movie called Jaws. How about a film called Tentacles :/

  • Detrimental to Tourism ?

  • Thats nut, looks like shes rolling FACE.

  • omg. imagine that, pain everywhere in your boddy, for2 weeks...wow...

  • i just have brown recluse and black widows and various large carnivores where I live... D:

  • im never going in the water agian

  • Just watching this makes me feel pain!!

  • una playa muy bonita

  • wooo! soo freaky! yaaaa wat evar it rare

  • stupid ass jellyfish D:

  • I am from Malaysia, and the fishermen here knows the symptom very well, i know 4 others who have experienced this, never wash the sting with warm water, n keep the body warm. What the fishermen here do is they light up a big fire and lie down close to it, it really helps. Doc monitored my vitals for 24 hours, i was stable, the pain was lesser but even lesser is still very painful. i rest for 4 days and stayed outdoor under the afternoon sun whenever i could which helps with the pain.

  • I've been stung by one.. got to the ER just in time, when they strap me on the bp monitor, the thing start beeping warnings. Nothing the doc can do too. Gave me pain killer shot, doesn't help, and doc refuses to put me to sleep, i can barely moves, my toes, fingers, it's like they have a mind of their own, terrible back pain, stomach cramp, and chest, it felt like no matter how hard u inhale, feels like ur not breathing as if ur heart gonna stop anytime.

  • Now that I think of it why didn't they suffer scarring like I've seen with other box jellyfish stings?

Is it because they poured vinegar right away?

  • @daviangel -- Because this jelly fish is 1cm cubed in size! Its that tiny

  • We should nuke the ocean to kill that freakin beasts!

  • @xurumambo we've nuked the ocean before like a jillion times already

  • 1 tentacle can kill 60 people well some types anyway

  • Why don't they put them under anethesia? Sleep it off.

  • @BatoNY65 5:35, "...because doctors must know what's coming next, putting patients under is risky."

  • That's great the video answered the only question I had as to why they don't just knock them out if they are in such pain :)

  • @BatoNY65 -- Too risky!!!

  • i dont swim

  • 4:40 orgasm

  • even thought that jellyfish is REALLY dangerous. people should know it's rare to ever get stung by those jellyfish. it's rare period to get stung by jellyfish. sometime sit does happen though.

even after seeing this I STILL wanna visit Australia and i will swim in the waters.

  • She's got grrrreat legs!

  • Every muslim should be given his own free box jellyfish.

  • I'm suisse, I have been in Australia twice, in total for 6 months; nothing dangerous appened to me and to my friends. We have been traveling with a van from Perth to Brisbane. We slept in the bush, on the beach, we where always bathing ant nothig appened. So I personally suggest everybody to go to Australia, a wonderful continent, but have respect for the nature and always remember to use your brain, on the street, on the bush, in the sea.

  • America should find a way to synthesize that jellyfish toxin. It would be great for interrogations, especially if we convinced the prisoner that we have an antidote.

The joke's on him when he tells us what we want to know, and we say "Sucks to be you, the only antidote is time. Enjoy the next 2 weeks!"

  • @ThePopeIsReptilian

I think they would call that "unethical". lol

  • @Eragarev Since when has the CIA been ethical?

  • I never want to experience that kind of pain at all. The way the pain has been widely described is terrible.

  • is this fake?

  • No, this is actually what happens when you have gotten stung by this box jelly.

  • her writhing body at 5:23 is freaky!

  • This hurts to watch. I wanted so badly to swim in the ocean while in Australia but this little guys scared me out of it. Still to me the most amazingly cool country on the planet though. And here's when I get bashed by hordes of my fellow Yanks. :-) I've never been to New Zealand though and I've always heard it's absolutely beautiful. Can any Kiwis confirm that?

  • @Nigelxman,

They're only found in certain parts of far-north and far-north-eastern Australia, everywhere else is fine.

  • i wouldnt be so sure...due to global warming they are expanding their range as waters become warmer...in fact they were even found in cold waters too all around the world

  • yeah but stings are still really quite rare and are most common in the summer months in Northern Australia. I have lived in Australia my entire life and have been a lifeguard and have surfed for years and have never EVER witnessed or even met someone who has been stung my an irukanji or a box, or even bitten by a shark.

  • Just imagine doing a tab of strong acid, going for a dip in the warm ocean, getting nailed by one or a few of these suckers, the trips and the venom kicking in at the same time and then having the most intense 24 hours of your life! Wooo, what a rush.

No you'd probably take your own life eh. I can only imagine it being as close to hell as we could experince.

Visit Blackpool, England instead. We have a beach strewn with latex jellyfish instead of these nasty critters!

  • why don't they get smaller stinger nets? Like one with no holes

  • @GhettoBlaster100 Because that crosses the line between "Underwater net" and "Underwater sail" It's extremely likely to tear during rougher seas, or be dragged away entirely. Even if it does work, you've now got trapped brine. it would be pretty disgusting.

  • i see

  • then a lot of useful non harmful animals couldn't get through either

  • I'm watching this on TV right now

  • Pain for two weeks..

How did she manage to sleep?

  • I would't even go near the water in australia! I would't even go to australia, deadly animals everywere! Snakes, spiders, ants, jellyfish, sharks, bees, killer whales and more! xD

  • AND it was a penal colony....LOL

  • It's not all that bad.

  • @MarshallATV Stuff like that is extremely rare. TV makes it sound a lot worse but in truth, very few people ever get bitten by snakes or bugs or anything like that.

  • D16 is right.

Aussies have never been in fear of our flora or fauna. We will not let it put us off having a great time in the bush or the ocean.

All Australians can identify the things that are dangerous from early age and we know how to stay out of trouble. Our medical care is first rate and antivenines very effective.

ALL PEOPLE ON PLANET EARTH SHOULD VISIT AUSTRALIA, AND NOT BE SCARED OF OUR WILDLIFE.

  • @slk320k I like how you're welcoming people into Australia, People from other places don't like outsiders coming into their country. I'd love to visit Sydney!

  • @slk320k

Australians are just tough dudes, despite their gay accent ;-)

  • @pr4nk5tr Coolest accent in the world man. And in girls, it's the sexiest.

  • @slk320k Lol i have never heard of anyone not going to australia because of the dangerous animals. The chance of getting killed on the streets in the US or even in europe is far bigger than getting killed by poisenous animals in australia. I'd love to come and visit your beautiful country if i could afford it :-)

  • @slk320k Thanks for that ever since I was a little kid I have wanted to visit but never have had the money or chance to do so ... yet!

  • @Duckman1616 because of that reason, (it happens rarely), it makes it to the news...

  • not all the time lol

just stay away from them and dont do stupid shit and you'll be alright ;)

  • @jarredhasminiballs Stay away from them? Yeahhhh, that's so easy.

  • @dickface it is actually, just dont go swimming all the time in stinger season, chances are you wont get stung

  • Actuall, I have been living in Australia for 7 years and the only animal that could possibly dangerous that I have encountered is the white-tailed spider.

And I have never been stung or bitten in my life so far.

  • they dont just cause terrible amounts of pain, they could kill you. If they sting you in your chest or any other vital area. You could die, this is nature at its finest. The smallest things make the biggest changes in someones life.

p.s You couldnt give me a a billion dollars to get stung by one of these. Oh and badboy good luck

  • Mental Notes - Don't swim in Australian Beaches with Jellyfish warning signs.

  • Why can`t they just use thinner nets at beaches

  • Guess what.. Maybe leave nature alone.

  • Oh. I thought she was topless. I'm disappointed.

  • badboybitch69, didnt u listen to what he said? even the highest dose of morphine would only take away a small part of the pain. So good luck finding some box jellyfish

  • @badboybitch69, I hope you find some Irukandji, and fast. Someone as spectacularly imbecilic as you needs to be off the planet ASAP.

  • Who would've known that a jellyfish a size of a fingernail could do such pain? =O

  • Especially an amount of pain that, from what I read about Teresa's story on Wikipedia, is probably about equivilant to being blasted to within an inch of one's life by an M-16 assault rifle.

  • @badboybitch69 I doubt morphine will work, but if you're that crazy that you'll do it, RECORD :D

  • sure thing haha.. don't get why I got thumbs down but if I find some of these I'll be sure recording it and posting it up of me getting stung by one of these :D

  • i saw one and took a picture of one

  • So why do they not use full face masks doing this?

  • Probably still wouldn't have helped because as you saw the girl got stung taking of her suit. Seems like they were meant to get stung.

  • Fuck the ocean.

  • I cannot imagine the pain since my last hepatic crisis, but I think that everyone can realise this "no break" pain situation. The sea is responding but human will find cure. Are they fine now, I guess ?

  • scum of the earth

  • @mumakmaster Thats probably humans. lol

  • Surely a face covering could be developed, even a makeshift creation that would be effective.

  • I thought my kidney stones were excruciating. Kidney stones are nothing compared to this!

  • Lots of respect to the researchers- Jamie and Thereasa. To put up with that pain is something few can imagine. "I'm thinking elephants". "Don't ever research Jelly fish, its a stupid thing to do"...funny and quite humbling.

  • Pray they will never evolve to get wings....

  • or control their stingers.
