As a straight man living in SF, it's my duty to say that even heteros adore Kylie. It's true! I was in Europe when "Can't Get You Out of My Head" was a hit. WOW! This the Locomotion Girl, I thought? It helps to have a gay vibe to be smitten by her but it isn't mandatory. I wish she were bigger in the States but, like opera or cheap wine, you can't expect everyone to get the point. Everyone I've shared my Kylie DVDs with says, "Okay. Call me gay but I'm a fan." Is there any higher compliment?

I think there's perhaps something wrong with straight men who DON'T love Kylie. She's the sexiest thing on the planet!

@TheStockwell You know, Kylie is unusual in that she's marketed heavily to gays, despite her easily having the sex appeal to attract the straight male demographic. Do you think her producers lacked any faith in her to market her conventionally? Most female musicians who are marketed to the gay audience tend to lack the cliched pop culture sex appeal. I don't think Kylie had that problem, and yet she has never managed to penetrate American audiences.

@jstephenj Simple economics. Record companies spend money on new acts they want to make big. Once the act is some sort of success, they let Nature take its course. With Kylie, they have a dream girl - she comes with a pre-fab audience (maybe I mean "pre-fabulous" audience). Without their label spending a dime, she sells records and tickets. She doesn't really need promotion. Yes, they could promote her more. Still, it's not like she's playing sad little hundred-seat jazz venues. She'll be fine.
