  • I have always thought that in the distant futre, that some of the real instruments will be forgotten, like the ofeclyde,

    what do you think ?

  • ...and people wonder why the theatre organ has died with the public...

  • whats that meant to mean ?? id class theatre organists as THEATRE ORGANISTS and electronic organist as KEYBOARD players .. the reason for theatre organs dying is the fact of todays technology .. look at some electronic organs today .. press a button go for a piss and come back and join in ..too many automatics. thats why todays organits of today will never be as good as what they were years back.

  • I totally agree in regard to too many 'auto' features.

I own both a Gulbransen and a Conn organ. I almost never use the Auto Rhythm - though I do use the traps on the Conn on occasion.

There was a great in-game commercial once in GTA IV where the ad went something like: Look! It's a Synth now YOU too can make music with a press of a button!

  • @MrGilly56 (1/2) I think that's rather unfair. The theatre organ is by no means dying becaus of electronic organs. It may have been true 50-60 years ago when every household had a Hammond or some other electronic, but that's hardly the case now. The remaining theatre organs installed in homes, theatres and other places are generally well-cared for by their owners or the theatre organ society of the area.

  • @MrGilly56 (2/2) Digital theatre organs (esp. those with high qaulity samples) are just a way for those without the room (or money) for a real theatre organ to have one. Besides, it's a way to introduce those who've never heard of the theatre organ to the instrument, isn't it? That's always good. I would love to own a real theatre organ, but I don't have the room or money, so if I ever get one it'd have to be digital, and I imagine that that's how it is for a lot of people who love theatre organ

  • Oh...the organ can make whistling sound?! It's amazing! 5*

  • depression era people found hope at the theather, where pipe organs were almost as common as popcorn machines and the artists gave people hope and joy for just a little while.
