  • @SpooksOneske dude who the fuck r u talking to? -nobody cares

  • 9th is dope. N need to debate if he is better, or if hip hop is a genre. hip hop is inside of you and it is what you want it to be. Music, clothes expression etc. The is no one single definition for hip hop. If you do not understand sampling and how it shaped the music then you ay not appreciate it, that's cool. Do some research on ho the music started and then for an informed factual opinion. No one cares about what you think. Facts create credibility. Peace!

  • any one got an ID of the track at the end?

  • @stickmister321 LOL i must be, hip hop essentially consists of 4things, MCing DJing Graf and breaking. BUT hip hop is also considered a genre of music 3/4 of the time.. What would you consider music like Nas, Rakim and KRS? Cmon son, step your debate game up :) lol dumbass

  • Happy late bday 9th!!

  • Hip hop is a collage of music, sampling is the form of taking the pieces of music and putting it on the mural which would be the song. Sampling is not an easy thing to do, neither is playing instruments.. Don't hate on something that you can't do.

  • @myniakal333 Hip hop is a culture, not a collage of music, and sampling in my opinion, is easy.

  • @stickmister321 talib said it was a collage of music, its a culture but its also a genre, gtfo kid

  • @myniakal333 It's not a genre, are you fucking retarded?

  • Some of you are missing the point. He doesnt only do sampling. He can play keys too. And no..sampling isnt pathetic. It is an art form. I sample as well. And it can be fun but its not as easy as people think.

  • That's not true. Jay Z called out Quik for "Justify My Thug" on the Black Album.

  • This guy killlls a 9th beat! ==> Dual Seize - Roll On

  • up n down is my favorite beat wonder did.

  • I admire 9th Wonder and am a great fan of his work, but there's one thing I doubt. He says sampling is creating a new music and it's way harder than playing a traditional instrument. But let's imagine that for some reason literally ALL music that was ever sampled is erased and doesn't exist any more. What would a producer do then?

  • @PawelKosinsky I am a producer and it's not way harder.

  • @PawelKosinsky I think it takes skill to produce music like 9th but I play the piano and have been playing for like 8 years, I don't think sampling is harder than playing the piano, but I do think it takes skill to produce good music, b/c I've tried my hand at production and it wasnt easy, but it wasnt as hard as playing the piano at the same time

  • Well said, some people need to see the music rather than hear the music. Exactly why I listen 2 MF Doom. Not about how he looks, it's about the music.

  • check out my videos if u fucks with 9th wonder

  • BOOMBAP! U DUN NEED TO TELL HOW POPULAR IT IS 9TH.. DILLA SHOW'D US

  • 4:48-5:06 is my best part

  • i did not know he looked like that

  • New school hip hop producers and beat makers should all take notes on this

  • nobody beats 9th, and no one EVER will. wisest man in music

  • 9th deserves much more respect. But as long as he keeps the good music coming, I'm happy.

  • For what 9th wonder uses fl studio?

    He has a MPC 2500 i dont get it..pls answer <3

  • @QazCwalk WHEN HE STARTED HE DIDNT HAVE MONEY FOR AN MPC..SO HE DID ALL HIS BEATS ON FL STUDIO..THERES AN INTERVIEW SOMEWHERE HERE ON YOUTUBE WERE HE TALKS ABOUT FL STUDIO..

  • real dude! I like this interview.

  • whats the one from 2:08, i lov that

  • its my dream to hit the booth with 9th

  • @Foreezybeezy1 The beat is called Honey(Instrumental) by 9th Wonder

  • Im AN ill lyricist and I would love to get on a jam by 9th wonder!! Tha Goonyz

  • @rizzail With a name like Tha Goonyz, 9th Wonder would spit on you !

  • Just started producing, check out my beat:

    youtube.com/watch?v=wbNASLqS8Wo

  • The people who have to see an artist's social status before they can like a song are musically retarded.

  • What that first beat?? Starts at 0:18?

  • @Foreezybeezy1 it's a track called "Honey" from the Erykah Badu album "new amerykah part one"!

  • Musician>producers.

  • @numanuma20 I couldnt agree with you more. I find that when people sample it's kind of like cheating your way to a good song.

  • @TheBiggerFrame not anybody can properly transform a sample to a usable beat. Even 9th says half the people dont know everything about fl. Also you'll find alot more artists than you thing sample songs.....

  • @ArtiztikAA No not everyone can, however it takes far less talent to sample than it does to actually make music from scratch. So long as someone understands the fundamentals of how music is made, and understand how to work a modern music program, and have a fair understanding of music history, and have good taste, they can make dope beats with samples. This is much simpler than what classical composers did and even many classic rock/jazz groups did.

  • Just a question, I like to program music from individual drum hits and music notes, with the occasional soft synth thrown in. Do you think that takes any more or less talent than someone who plays drums or guitar? At that level the person playing a traditional instrument can do the same thing I'm doing much quicker, while I sacrifice virtuosity for control.

  • @deejayalemus the amount of control without the work is the major appeal of sampling, yes it takes less talent, hence it's appeal among so many people but what matters is what you want, do you want to be a great technical musician or do you want to be known in pop culture? If you want to make money understand it's not about the music but about your image and sampling will help tremendously, as long as it sounds good compared to other people, no one will care how "good" you are.

  • @ATENakaATON I never pretend that I'm a proper musician. I can improvise pretty well though, love to just noodle around till I get something I like. I originally started working with tracking software and 8 bit/64k sampling capabilities, the stuff you can do now with FL and Ableton is godlike by comparison. Not really interested in making money off music, the stuff I like is not commercial. I read The Manual by the KLF, which offers some pretty good pointers on how to have pop success.

  • @ATENakaATON Thanks for the reply. When you refer to the work, I assume you mean the process of learning an instrument, I take it. I don't see much difference between plinking something out on a casio keyboard and playing cut and paste with piano notes on a GUI. You can get more improvisation the first way though, I'll admit. And you can do it better if you actually know something about music theory.

  • i swear everytime 9th talks its always some real ass shit. like hes the type of dude you shut the fuck up for without hesitation whenever he talks.

  • sour creme and onion!!!!!

  • he's never seen dj premier for 8 years was he ever buying a gangstarr record or watch rapcity and yo mtvrap without thse outlet's this music would not be were it's at today

  • /watch?v=UHiqQPfnjLs

Hey fans of hip hop & 9th wonder i made a lil freestyle to a 9th wonder beat im 16 and love hip hop and everything about it, appreciate it.

  • 1997

  • mr wonder man so this is how you look like i think i liked you better just faceless somethng about you tht sounds a bit proud

  • Man this dude is wise

  • "I would like to hear them take "Today" by Tom Scott and turn it into "They Reminisce Over You."

That quote proved his legitimacy to me. I don't think any other producer could have done what Pete Rock did with that song.

  • one of my favorite producers. Check out my beats grizzlysbeatz(dot)com

  • who has soundcloud? follow me @doedy

  • Whats the name of the track that starts at 0:24 end 0:30? Some one please tell me.

  • RESPECT TO 9TH..but hes full of shit/// hes slickly trying to discourage young producers// "niggas dont chop samples like i do" and then a clip of him hittin the same button 20 times..man fuck that nigga..i understand producers hating the fact that any joe shmoe can compete with them because we use the same FUCKIN EQUIPMENT,, and know all their secrets// but thats not cool.

  • Comment removed

  • @Flipstaxx08 Just because you own the same equipment doesn't mean that puts you on the same level as him. Just like if you own a basketball that doesn't make you michael jordan, if you own a guitar that doesn't make you jimi Hendrix, etc etc. dumb fuck.

  • @michelleisaloser nobody tryin to put anybody on his level faggot. what im sayin is hes dicrouraging young artists, from making music// not cool..even worse when he acts liek nobody else can sample like him..which if u knew anything about PRODUCING ..and listenened to his music you can tell he QUANITIZES his drums and loops big chunks of samples alot..which is letting the computer and the artist ur samplin do the work..but you wouldnt know that cuz ur a know nothing waste of life

  • @Flipstaxx08 still doesnt take anything away from how great he is..but doesnt mean their arent other producers out there just as good or better..ill take alchemist over 9th everyday..and atleast alchemist has encouraging words for aspiring artists

  • 9th Wonder Always Kicking Knowledge, Believe Me Nigga, We Know Who You Are....A Great Producer.

  • bwoooyyyyy.. 9th wonder gotta hear my music, to KNOW that there are CRAZY TALENTED producers out there in the world. i agree with alot of what hes saying. but to say he could do shit no one else can is borderline cheek.

a great producer no doubt, but there are OTHERS OUT THERE, including the Speshaliss JNp..... who???.... ME!

  • Foreal..I got a lotta respect for 9th... but why does he come off like up n comers should'nt even try...maybe um readin too much into it but he's not the only one who cares enough about this thing we call hip hop enough to be a student of the craft with aspirations to master it...nobody is born with all the technical nohow..no not even him...

  • What the track at the beginning on the intro? I'm guessing it's 9th Wonder but anyone know the song?

  • @krazeakake it is Honey by Erykah Badu off of New AmeriKa

  • MUST FEEL AWESOME TO SAY GRAMMY AWARD WINNING!!!!

  • CheckMyChannel, 15YearOldProducer, TrynnaGetNoticed

  • real talk, no1 really listens to music and when they do they dont understand how much hard work we put in a single track... to like me you need to see what im doing and how im doing it, personally i think thats fucked up how the world changed like that. who ever likes real hip hop beats check me out at soundcloud. com/cena24

  • 99% of people see Lady Gaga, 1% actually hears her.

  • what video was on 2.06 - 2.21?

  • sampling isnt art.

  • @Runningjoels gtfo troll

  • @bartjuhh12 sorry if i fail to see the merit behind mooching off other ppls talent. if they were real musicians theyd start from scratch.

  • @Runningjoels Okay, but i hope you understand that the art of sampling is something else than just timestretching loops. Thats why i think that if you do not notice what sample it is, than its a good flip.

  • @Runningjoels fag don't care if it sounds good and special. You're just silly man

  • @Runningjoels Hey Bart, here's an idea... why don't you put your money where your mouth is... Go get yourself a sampler, and then come back around here talking about talent.. Because then, and ONLY then, will your opinion on talent-mooching hold any merit with thos of us who have actually taken a stab at creating sample-based music. Get the fuck out here with your ignorance.

  • @rikky383 Hey Bart-head... sorry man, I meant to direct that comment at 'Runningjoke'.

  • @rikky383 why would i waste my money doing nigger shit. im a pianist, a real musician.

  • @Runningjoels this is real music, and alot of these dude who make beats with samples DO play instruments and have a good understanding of music theory and chord progression...like me, i'm black, imake beats using samples, i'm a pianist, iknow chord progression and music thoery, and on top of all that, and ican say im pretty good at all that considering my age....i'm only 15

  • @flylovebeats u want a cookie?

  • @Runningjoels oatmeal raisin is my preference.

  • @Runningjoels Haha. Okay man, well you're obviously only 12 or 13... so I'm not even gonna wast time with you.. Why don't you go do your math homework or something... be productive.

  • @Runningjoels As a musician myself, I play guitar, harmonica, bass, and a little bit of keys, now learning trumpet. and as an MC who's tried and still trying my hand at producing, i can say with full confidence that NO musician starts from scratch.

  • @emcee4CEE i do.

  • @Runningjoels give me your work i can tell you every artist you listen to regularly. and i'll prove you didn't start from scratch, you start from influence. just like a hip hop producer is influenced by works from other artists

  • @emcee4CEE yeah but theres a difference between being influence by some1 and literally ripping their riffs.

  • @Runningjoels ok, i understand that, but they are using it in a creative way, to make their own song...i know a lot of producers take a solid chunk out of a song to sample for their beats...but shit they're basically saying "i wish i could have made this" thats pretty flattering, in my opinion. but i definetely see your point as well.

  • @Runningjoels sampling is an art if its own..it takes skill and takes years to perfect just like playing an instrument. if it didnt take talent you would be able to do it ahaha

  • @Flipstaxx08 i can assure you i would be able to do it if i had the equipment...

  • Comment removed

  • @Flipstaxx08 LOL, i assure you ..you are sadly mistaken, you wouldnt even be able to get the sample into the MPC...HAHA..id pay to see you try, just to get a good luagh. and PS its the year 2011 you dont need equipment..shows how much u know. stop undermining peoples ability about a subject u know nothing about..makes you look stupid..dont hate cuz you have no talent..take up scrap booking or some shit

  • @Flipstaxx08 lmfao... stfu stupid bitch ur not half the musician i am.

  • @Runningjoels i play guitar/ bass/ keyboards, produce music/ engineer/ and Record..wtf do you do play beethoven on a keyboard reading sheet music LOL pussy

  • @Flipstaxx08 keyboard and guitar, but hey ur a fat jew so u can die stupid bitch

  • @Flipstaxx08 are any of ur beats original? or do they all use samples? u lazy bitch. compose something thats 100% original, and if you cant then that says something about u as a musician.

  • @Runningjoels the majortity are 100% ORIGINAL// didnt start sampling till after i learned how to compose. been gettin respect way b4 i started sampling thank you very much// ill muder every dude on here claimin their shit is dope, sample or no sample. all im sayin in i used to think like you..until i understood the art..and if u knew anything about sampling..when done correctly..is actually harder to sample than start from scratch,,, thats why u sound retarded

  • @Flipstaxx08 LMFAO LMFAO wtf no dude u sound retarded. its one thing to say that sampling takes skill, which it does some times. but now ur saying its harder LMFAO dude wtf dude are you on crack? thats like saying that cheating on a test is harder then studying.

  • @Runningjoels "dude" im not wastin anymore time on you. you dont belong in this conversation. you are an absolute know nothing

  • @Flipstaxx08 what ever you say man what ever you say. "using other peoples music is harder then coming up with your own." haha thats rich. have a nice life

  • Comment removed

  • @MrGreenProdt lmfao, collage as an art is a joke too.

  • @Runningjoels u know fuck all listen to smack my bitch up by the prodigy would you think that there is a sample of rage against the machine and kool and the gang in that track, no cause liam howlett makes the sample do what HE wants and that is ART.

  • Up and Coming rapper and producer check out the link for one of my beats :)

    /watch?v=7y55pjmMP4E

  • Check my channel for a great interview with 9th - inspirational

We sit down to hear 9th wonder speak about teaching life at Duke & collaborating with Lil B

Personally I look up to 9th wonder a lot, not just as a musician but how he conducts himself, his values and how grounded he is despite his popularity and fame.

Uploaded to help spread the word about great musicians and more importantly genuinely good people in the world like this - still giving a whole lot back despite the fame

  • Does he also sample his drums? I wonder

  • The beat at 6:07. Does anyone know?

  • @arontung when u find out TELL ME! if i find out, I'll TELL YOU

  • @arontung Destiny's Child - Is She The Reason

  • @Dannish64 niceee. Thanks

  • Seein as how you need a strong knowledge of hip hop just to be aware of his greatness i would say 9th wonder is just about The GREATEST name you could ever have for someone in his shoes.

    f-ckin awesome

  • @SaturnDyer as an mpc user...does the Maschine really provide the mp60-mpc 3000 type sound/feel?

  • What's the name of the first song? That shit is bangin'

  • @alimasterv 9th wonder- honey.

  • @alimasterv Erykah Badu - Honey

  • well dilla is the originator of this style beat production so u cant compare, however, theres two albums he produced that will definitely boost you're opinion of him. murs-9th edition and buckshot- the formula. and dont download them. buy that shit u cheap bastards.

  • @alexdelgiudice1 JAYWONDER LOL JAYLIB

  • Little Brother needs to reunite.

    Now.

  • So can someone break down what sampling is then ? because theres samples where there mad chopped up and place in a new order. And then theres samples were the take a part of it maybe pitch it up and loop it and add drums then theres sample's were people replay the peice and add more instruments in to it.

  • @PdubzCrew well you just broke it down right there

  • WTF is he talkin about.. i don't give a fuck about Dillas face - I still recognize Dilla as the greatest of all time. That's just the talk of the left brain (intelectual), he needs to stop thinking and getting back to the core. No wonder he's music been uninteresting lately. Peace though

  • big ups 9th wonder, checkout my samples

  • its never the machine its the man behind the machine real talk

  • @VisionsInSmoke the funny thing is that i saw people like richie hawtin saying this and in studio sessions from the early 90's aswell lol

  • If you like 9th, check out my beats, specifically one i just uploaded called "All Soul'd Out" where I dropped a sounbite of a 9th interview at the beginning to show my love for him as he is my greatest influence. I'm a 17 year old hip hop/soul producer from the Pacific Northwest, hope you like my beats!

  • @SaturnDyer your damn right i can lol.but again your opinion.if the music is good it shouldnt matter anyhow.thats all i'm sayin.shit i want an mpc

  • @SaturnDyer well if i have no proof how can i go on your word.but whatever.your opinion.you can probably fuck around an make a beat.but it probably wont be creative.chord progression, digging for samples, mixing, compression,eq,etc.you cant just go in and start creating hot shit.

  • @SaturnDyer how is it lame if your nephew is beast on it.thats kinda a contradiction dont you think.and where is your nephew's work?i mean if he's beast and all.i'm telling you its not simple.easy maybe but not simple.

  • @Skyknight22 well of course.its a daw.lol its suppose to be easy to use.i'm just saying its not basic.u sound as though you can master every little thing about the program in a day which is not the case.and you're not making the same sound as legends, you're making your own sound.there's no copying the next guy.that is just biting.i bet you couldnt even tell the difference.if a beat was made from software or hardware.

  • @Skyknight22 with all due respect,i dont get what you mean by basic.do you mean the simplicity of the beats or the program itself?cuz if you talkin the beat making, premo's stuff is basic.but it is dope.to say the program itself is basic.i agree to disagree.its not as simple as you think.u still gotta dig (e-digging or crates) u still gotta chop.

  • @SaturnDyer idk but fruity loops is beast if you know to use it.somebody can get on an mpc and straight make garbage.somebody can use fl studio and make garbage.it depends on what you use.just like he said.its the man behind the machine.i'm not trying to change your opinion.just sayin.

  • yeah i've been looking into ableton since that seems to be becoming the standard. I have a 1000 so I would probably like the mpc more if i had the 2000. I should've saved the $ for the 2000. I'm able to do more with the softw that i have than the hardw so that's why i do it that way. and yes compared to the greats, 9th isn't up there. my only beef is with people who don't know anything saying comments like that. you could talk shit about FL if you've "evolved", but not if you've never used it.

  • @Skyknight22

if we have experience working with music, our opinions are more validated than someone with no experience. i understand people with experience not liking it. that's fine if you have think it's garbage. I personally use it in conjunction with logic since I find a few a logic's functions glitchy. but if you know what you're talking about, that's your opinion and that's cool. saturn dude doesn't know anything and bases it off an 8 year old that he watches. different story.

  • @SaturnDyer

show me your 8 year old cousin's work then. his opinion is more valid than yours.

  • @Skyknight22

sorry for the long posts but long story short: your opinion that 9th wonder sucks is ok. I was never arguing that. your opinion that "it is the machine or the program" and "fruity loops is the cheat sheet of all production", GIVEN YOUR LACK OF BACKGROUND, is stupid. if you actually fucked around with fruity loops and made music, then it would be a valid opinion. since you don't, it is ignorance.

  • @Skyknight22

this wasn't about 9th wonder. it was about his statement about it being the program and the reason he sucks is because he uses fruity loops. his statement was based off nothing since he does not make music so that is an opinion based of ignorance and lack of knowledge in making music. it's ok for you and him to think he sucks. but not every comment is opinion. his comment about producing isn't opinion. it would be if he actually made music but, under his own admission, he does not.

  • @SaturnDyer

this was never about whether 9th wonder is good or not. that is always up to opinion. this was about someone who does not make music saying fruity loops is is the "cheat sheet of all production" and "it is the machine or the program". someone with no experience in producing should not be making comments like that. that is not opinion. that is ignorance. download fruity loops and let me hear what you can do if it's so easy then. it's ok to have your opinion on 9th wonder though

  • @SaturnDyer

what i don't understand is how you can say "It is the Machine or the Program" when, under your own admission, you neither compose nor write music. there's a difference between having an opinion and making a completely ignorant statement. go ahead and call 9th wonder the worst producer ever... that's fine. but don't say stupid statements about producing like you actually know what you're talking about because, under your own admission, you haven't one fucking clue.

  • @SaturnDyer

how far have you gotten "keepin it real" with your mpc? not hating on the mpc but i bet 9th wonder would make a lot better stuff than any of us would with it. show us your music and i'll take my comment back.

  • whats the name of the first instrumental that plays?

  • @Brandometry C'mon son...

    Erykah Badu - Honey

    Produced by 9th Wonder.

  • i haven't taken the time to skim thru all these damn comments but id like to know if that instrumental that comes out in the beginning from 0:17, its oh so nice..

  • @g00n24 i meant id like to know "what is" that instrumental haha

  • I didn't know Mos Def made beats

  • Here is a real mind being presented to us wannabe producers. Truth... Great video.

  • True human being right here. Love his vibes

  • Now a days people want to see music before they hear it, so true. I hate this new generations music.

  • 9th wonder is my favorite producer

  • He shows the truth.. :D

  • he did

  • how did he not mention J Dilla?
