  • A couple things - I don't remember anything about Leonard being a preist. And I wouldn't describe Caim as a murderer. Philosophical issues aside, killing in war is not generally seen as murder, and I don't remember Caim killing anyone that wasn't in self defence.

The word is projecting. You take what you think the world looks like and apply it to other things.

  • It IS fucking cool. Drakengard is amazing! Better than any XBOX game that is or ever will be. Caim is a freaking awesome character. There are 64 weapons. They aren't THAT hard to obtain. It's the 13th chapter that really gets people pissed. I don't use any of the dogding or blocking, those pussy Empire rats have no chance to kill me. XD

  • I love how this game says Square Enix right...too many times I have heard people playing SE games and saying EEnix...Wow. I love Drakengard.

  • @Roxas131413 But then you said it wrong narrator. Freaking A! ITS SAYS IT IN THE GAME! EVERY CHARACTER SAYS IT!!!!!!!!!DX

  • 7:31-Wow. When exactly was this game released? I'm not a graphics wh***, but I can tell this game is old because it looks like an old N64 game.

  • @TheFallingNight First I'll start by saying thank you so much for responding, Second I will agree with you. The game did lack the delivery of it's depth, but the reason I insist on saying that it's brilliant is because I belong to a Roleplaying community based on the Drakengard games that really expanded the elements of it called drakengard requiem. I really think you should read about the Grotesqueries (Those demonic baby things from the last two endings), it's a really interesting read.

  • @TheFallingNight Wow... @6:15 I hope that Cavia didn't hear you say that... I mean, the whole "This game has no depth" thing. You're really being inconsiderate of the elements that it took to compose this game. Sure, it's fucked up, but it really is trying to deliver a different view on life. You're semi-right about this game not having some philosophical moral... But you're wrong about it's lack of philosophy. This game has built it's own legend. I'm just sad that YOU missed the point.

  • @LoneStarImmortal

I think by Cavia, you mean Yoko Taro, the director of the game and honestly the only one who actually cared about it (if the sequel is any indecation). And I stand by what I said. An ATTEMPT at depth is not the same as HAVING depth. Yes, there are flashes of brilliance here and there that I will discuss when I get to them (well honestly, IF I get to them) but they don't elevate the whole product.

  • @TheFallingNight

If by the sequel you mean Drakengard 2, you're wrong. Drakengard 2 isn't canon, the first ending in chapter 8 isn't canon, the ending where you get all the weapons and get shot down in Tokyo is canon. The sequel is Nier. Also, I really think you missed a lot of the point of Drakengard, and you take that as it has no point except gruesome murder, you should look at Nier. Nier puts the point more out there than Drakengard, so it'd be easier for you to understand.

  • @BloodyFandango No, D2 is still canon, NieR didn't erase it. A series is allowed to have multiple canons, just look at comic books.

Also, I consider NieR to be one of the best games of all time, but there still wasn't a point to it. There was no moral unless you count (spoilers for NieR here)"No matter how hard you try to fix things, you're probably going to wipe out the human race."

The real "message" of these games is "Yoko Taro loves your pain."

  • @TheFallingNight

Well, I suppose it's canon to a degree, since it wasn't written by the same people or directed by Yoko Taro, I don't see it as canon as Nier is. Well, there's as much a message as there is in King Lier or Hamlet, it's a dark, "nobody wins" scenario, the point is in the experience rather than the message. He's trying to tell a story that makes you think, but also depressed, rather than tell a story to deliver a message.

  • @BloodyFandango The problem is that Drakengard fails so completely at making the player depressed and at telling a story that any attempt it was making to do either is nullified. I agree that Drakengard is more and "experience", but it's mostly experiencing how fucked it can get.

Hamlet was an exploration of the human character, Drakengard is an exploration of how many drugs someone can take and still be coherent enough to pick up a pen.

  • Media and art don't need intention to set up symbolism. Just as a response to what you said at around 6:30.

  • Man, this game is creepier than when I played it when I was younger. Well, at that date I hadn't seen the darn ending.

  • Lol. A murderous psychopath, a pedophile and a person who eats babies.. Awesome characters :3

  • @XxxYachiru

why can't square enix make more characters like that....

  • If you read the info in wikipedia about this game you would be suprised at the twisted dark content. They even say that in the jap version that leonard was a pedophile and furiae has incestous feelings towards her brother. Is this true? Really tell me is it true that this game is really that twisted

  • Spoilers: Furiae wants to fuck Caim.

  • Fuck. You. Manah.

I haven't played the first Drakengard but i've played the second. Which is better?

  • @wwefanme first one of course - less bitching more bloodlettering

  • those intro soldiers were NOT having a good day

  • I love you, you gave meaning to my life, all i wanted was a let's play drakengard, now i'm a fullfilled person.

  • @icestorm000000 I've wanted one too, preferably one by someone who actually likes the game, though. I'm not exactly confident in the quality of a LP done by someone who uses terms like "morally repugnant."

  • I wish that one of the knight's would say: "He has the fire ball glowing hand of doom!,

Get him!!!" and a 800,000,000,000,000,000 would just run after you that would be scary! but still you would kill them in 1 mil of sec, i bet.

P.s sorry about this stupid comment..

  • *looks at the game for 2 secound* '0' BUYYY!!!!

  • It's pronounce Draw-kiln gard...

  • BEST GAME I EVER PLAYED!!! its the most awesome game in the world

  • its dark kingdom hearts WITH DRAGONS

  • i first saw the trailer for this game when it first came out and played a little action sequance and immediatly thought that i had to get the game but i forgot the title until yesterday XP

  • i think this is one of my most intesne story line games, but there is parts when i just jumpe over the baddies to get to cut-scense, that how good the cut-scence are

  • Its great to find someone that's actually showing the game play and not just the cut-scenes to this game. Cant wait to see the rest of your videos on this game.

  • hey dude, i did some research? haha and i am pretty sure that the voice actor for Caim is Charles Rubendall. idk thats what wiki said haha so idk if i can trust that or not lmao, maybe try lookin in the credits of the game tho?

btw your commentary is epic dude, you should do more lets plays.

  • this kinda reminds me of demon souls

  • your voice reminded me and sounded very similar in my opinion like Norman Jayden from Heavy Rain! he's one of my favorite characters in that game! :D

(I'm not trying to be mean, that's supposed to be a compliment! he's a cool character with the ARI sunglasses and cool demeanor. )

(oh and sorry about the 2 removed comments. I put in one comment and forgot to add another, so I'm putting them together. hope you don't mind. :) )

  • Wait, it's "Enix" with an "ehh" sound? Not an "eee"?

Just when I thought I'd gotten past all the insanity Drakengard could throw my way, there's one more little nugget of weirdness crouching right in front of me.

  • i love this game

  • i want it on pc :(

I can't justify spending 50-100 bucks on a ps2 just to play a few games.

  • Caim's attitude towards killing is pretty much the only good thing about this game, well aside from the story and the cutscenes, those are pretty good, too. But otherwise this game is just plain terrible. Why I'm watching it? Because I bought it without knowing. And now I won't be able to live on in peace unless I see how the game ends. And as I'm too pissed at the game to play it myself for now I'll just watch and see

  • god, how do i adore this game<3

am sad that the sequel have almost ruined the whole game story, from the tale itself, to the characters, to the endings.

sigh, i wish nier would bring the old charm of this fine game ( fingers crossed)

  • SPOILER:

arioch got what was coming to her when you were talking about her eating babies. Ironic ending.

  • man this game has some of the best endings I've ever seen. I love how each of them are bleak and hoepless. Sadly Drakengard 2 kind of lost that dark feel this one had. But it was still great. Return of Caim halfway through was one of the most epic moments in gaming for me. Ever.

  • haha, i don't care if Caim's a freaky psychopath, that's why i love him. I think he's an awesome character. I find it strange how much shocking shit they put into this game, but I actually appreciated it. I never found it to be philosophical...just dark. If the game were longer and had more non-misson elements I'm sure they could have expanded it to give it moremeaning. But, aside from that, it is one of my fav. games. It still could've been better though.

  • SO EPIC

  • I looooove this game SO much!

I really wish they'd make a Drakengard 3 for the PS3 but they've totally exhausted the storyline. If they made a 3rd the story would have to be different.

I dunno, I loved the story that the game told too :P

  • i got all of the weapons in the game with help from a guide. that wasn't too bad. i even leveled most of them up for no reason... but i unlocked the final act and simply cannot beat the final boss. i get to the last 20 secs and that's where the game goes... DIE!!!! i hate this game... good times

  • LOL same, the guide is the ONLY way to get the final ending without spending countless hours searching aimlessly for weapons!

I found the best way to beat the final ending boss is to pause your game, look at whats flying at you, then press the respective buttons after un-pausing.

  • grinding :D

  • btw can you ride on umm the dragon i forgot her name like on drakengard 2 :P

  • Indeed you can. Her name is a plot point later on, so for now I' calling her Red.

  • @TheFallingNight isn't the red dragons name angleus or something? she tells you it in one of the endings?

  • @happysnappy2591234 Yes, her name is Angelus. She tells you that in the fourth ending, I believe. I can't remember off the top of my head because I've found about 2, maybe 3 endings but I haven't completely finished the game. I've played it once couldn't defeat the final boss.

  • @TheFallingNight i know the dragons name and yes the part where she reveals it is very emotional

  • @marthman1 Her name is Angula

  • @marthman1 the dragon on drakenguard 2 is legna (i think i'm spelling it right) and its not really spoilers because the main character already and says it

  • @stew1218

He's talking about the dragon from Drakengard 1, I won't say her name because I don't want to spoil it for anyone.

  • @BloodyFandango i know the drakenguard 1 dragons name :P

  • I LIKE YOUR THINKING XD caim cuttin a dude in half is redauntculus XD i like dw1-6 too except they dont have blood :o but if they did it would be awesome :D and massacring on drakengard 1 and 2 [i have 2] is a great idea XD

  • I love this game so much for how different and morbid it is. Unfortunately most of the incest conversations and other things have been taken out of the American version so some stuff may not make sense like they should have. I beat this game 100% and it is a pain to get some of the weapons. Riding around with a jet is nice though but that ariel Tokyo mission is hard! Arioch is awesome.

  • I like to call that kind of purposeful amorality "shock-whoreing". And no good can come to the plot or overall product when you do this.

  • @YaoiHuntressEarth Thank you! I was looking through the comments and I was waiting for someone to say this! Someone's clearly trying too hard to appeal to the angsty teenager demographic.
