  • ΦΑΝΤΑΣΤΙΚΟ!

  • GREAT AMERICAN POET AND AUTHOR

  • thumbs up if Ms Becky brought you here

  • @RafaPmore who's ms becky? (-: I appreciate any support so thanks ms betty

    (probably a teacher right?)

  • thumbs up if you miss chizco :(

  • @HawkABillySwan I have no idea what you're on about...

  • @UrbyKris exactly... (-:

  • @HawkABillySwan haha

  • MOLLY!!!!!!

  • @conchamolusco meme

  • And one more suggestion - View the reading by James Earl Jones. It is by far the best on Youtube. See how subtle he is with emotion, and his consistent timing throughout the majority of the poem. It also doesn't hurt that his voice is so well suited to the atmosphere of the work.

  • Constructive criticism continued -

Refrain from being over dramatic. The narration is sufficiently descriptive to allow the listener an understanding of the emotion of the character, without the need to be overly excited in the reading. This is particularly evident in the last stanza, where the performer uses subdued emotions to reflect the acceptance of the characters fate.

  • Constructive criticism-

If you do not know the pronunciation of a particular word, watch one of the videos of a recognized artist performing the work to see how the words should sound. It is also worthwhile researching the meanings of obscure words, as it adds more context to the poem.

  • A lot of people commenting how terrible this is, but I would suggest that few of those could actually do better. For those who think it easy, try actually reading the poem aloud. You will find that often the result is much different to how you imagine the reading in your mind.

Although there were some cringe worthy moments, I was impressed by a few of the performers such as; 1:38, 2:45, 3:15, 4:12, and the last stanza was wonderful.

See next comment for some constructive criticism.

  • I do think the douchebag with a Batman cap is to be shot.

  • @whatlooksrightisrigh it's his trademark (-: don't shoot him he's cool

  • @Annaconda1984

    Oh OK then :)

  • 4:40 girl is great

  • To those who are calling this poem, disgusting, painful to watch, terrible, stop for a moment and call your calm feelings to rejoice with your fingers once more. Give these people constructive criticism, how to do it better next time. I am very proud of them for trying, and it is great that this poem is still being read. Next time, aim for memorizing it and pronounce words correctly. Also, there is a rhythm component that you can work on :). Otherwise, great job for bringing back this poem.

  • I liked the collaboration idea, but the flow was just too interrupted with either over dramatisation or an attempt at being artistic that just bled the sentiment of the poem... Still, it's nice to see so much artistic interest flowing from the Youtube community, I guess it's better to see the life spurred from interpretation rather than traditionalistic honour giving... Good vid.

  • Holy fuck, this is 100% pure-as-the-driven-snow, unadulterated shite. What's with the fucking teddy-bear for Christ's sake? Stop trying to be deep and go get a fucking job ya Goddamn hippies.

  • what is her Zodiac?

  • This is pouring shit on the grave of dead poet.

  • Großer Gott Nein!!!!

  • " and his eyes have all the seeming of a demons that is dreaming "..my favorite verse..i love this poem..looks like some of you really took it serious and got into it..lol

  • Back in 1967 I memorized most of The Raven to present to the college Oratory class of which I was a member. Only a limit on the amount of time each presentation was allowed prevented me from reciting the entire work.

I am heartened that today's young people love The Raven, that they put in some effort, and have attempted it. So what if they don't sound like Basil Rathbone or Vincent Price. Congratulations, enjoyed this, and keep working at it.

  • Cool idea

  • The Poe-etic Principle I'm the Rapping Raven with a tale of woe, a tale once told by . . . Dead Ed Poe! Now, Edgar Allan Poe was a real cool dude, but life treated him tragically rude. When his mother died, Poe was only three, adopted out of duty by the Allan family. Moving to Virginia and growing up there, Poe attended college but his step-pa didn't care. Starved by that miser, Poe gambled to raise money to pay off his debts --read more on my Facebook Notes, Dec.9
  • Im so happy i got to be in this...how about u add a link while we talk to our pages :)

  • @desiprince786 hey kareem (-: i did that in the video description

do you mean i should do it in the actual video?

  • It really bugs me the people who have to read it off a page.

  • @jaydumas23 well alot of people dropped out last minute so i had to find replacement in the last moment, so not everyone had time to learn the lines; I'm happy and thankful that everyone made an effort to come up with something and ive also learned through this one and hopefully my other poetry collaborations somewhat better (especially in regards to remembering lines

  • Does anyone remember the name of the actor who read this poem on the microsoft encarta sample?

  • @sack064 sorry i dont but try google...

  • Actually, as I watch this, I realise how cool the idea really is; having each person give their twist. And it almost works, except for the apparent infamiliarity of (perversely) the various English speakers with English words.

  • fantastic poem, fantastic idea - but pleeeeaaase lean to pronounce the words before getting all deep and meaningful....

  • greylajoie23..is a horrible snob+needs a good tongue lashing off me...Liverpool wit generally causes them to grovell..

  • this is an insult, I cant decide if it's intentionally terrible as some kind of joke or not.

Some were worse than others but please at least learn how to pronounce the words and get a correct version of the poem before you make a mockery of it.

  • ugh, this is painfully bad

  • proper gay

  • i love it when youtubers get together to make something genuinely cool

  • The music towards the end didn't fit.

  • @RavenAudron100 (-: any suggestions for new music?

  • @Annaconda1984 Anything spooky. :) Look into Immundus, he's a good one!

  • @RavenAudron100 maybe smth that doesnt violate youtube copyright

  • @Annaconda1984 Aaww, does Immundus violate copyright? :(

It's hard to say who will or won;t, lol. Sometimes it depends on the song and not the artist.

  • This is the worst reading of a poem I have ever heard. Some of them do okay... but it is like acting you have to imagine what poe was feeling as he was writing. Recite it as he would. being on the front page of youtube doesn't mean anything.. there's been people farting as front page videos so stop saying that like it means so much. I think the best part of it was the silent part where it just had words. I'm sorry I don't usually post negative comments, but you had to know.

  • @djwasser make a video response and do it better

(-; cheers and thanks for the feeback

  • Comment removed

  • The most pathetic attempt I have ever seen at reciting such an iconic poem ..... *tut tut tut* I also cringed at each mispronounced word... and the disgusting mis beat of the tempo of the poem... with no true emotion. Poe wrote poetry from EMOTION...... if you can't recite it with the emotion it is written........ don't recite it AT ALL............. Poor Edgar... to be rolling around in his grave after so long....... every time someone listens to this!!!! Let the man RIP!!!!

  • @barbieclone1 it was good enough for the youtube frontpage (-:

(also your comment clearly shows that you didnt watch the video to the end)

  • @Annaconda1984

You keep sprouting this 'Good enough for YouTube front page garbage :S....No I didn't watch it to the end..... I had to spit up the vomit from my mouth....... :)

  • @barbieclone1 (-: LOL

    if you don't like it

    dont support it

because even negative feedback supports this video

and i make money off of it...so thanks

    have an amazing day...

  • this video sucks, Quote the raven ..... NEVERMORE !!!

  • Mr beardface has great timing and decent feeling. i'm thinking he's one of the few readers who actually understands what he's saying >.< anywho kudos

  • Poe's Father was American, Mother English, he was brought up by Scots, the Allen family. Christopher Walken does it best.

  • @locheelad2 i love christopher walken

  • Wow... Um... I don't know what to say. The third and fifth person made me want to reach through this screen and slap them. And nearly none of these people truly knew how to read. I will give credit to the few who actually did a decent job, but to the rest of you... I apologize, but never do this again. I was embarrassed for you, for this poem, and for everyone else who watched this.

  • guys that sing poems are soooooooo hottt

  • Lol...This was weird.

  • damn this sucked

  • lol at the 3rd person

  • (-: aka me

  • the first girl, your accent is horrendous

  • I don't understand why everyone is writing bad things about this. The video shows the narrators' admiration of the poem, and they are presenting it in a way they see fit. I thought some of these people were good, and I think it's the effort that counts, so five stars. Nice work.

  • @flamestarwarrior they're all so sad boo boo bee boo :P

  • @flamestarwarrior people are writing bad stuff about it 'cuz, while not everyone who does an exerpt is bad, there are many flaws to this. The first read apparently doesn't know that there's a G at the end of words like " tappin' ". The second read said "from my books SER CASE of sorrow...". The fifth reader replaced "stillness" with "darkness" and "murmured" with "mumbered" stanza 12 left out ghastly. (to name a few...

But people like the 4th,6th,9th,11th, 13th reader were Amazing

  • Bad bad bad. timing, pronunciation, presantation, passion. all these things are lacking. you guys are as boring as whale shit! watching grass grow or paint dry would be of more entertainment value. EPIC FAIL!!!

  • Bravo! Exquisite rendition everyone!!

  • beg you ling? beg youling ?

begyouling my sad fancy into smiling??

though its not a rule for all poems, this particular poem rhymes....which i guess, might, just maybe mean that beg you ling is actually pronounced beguiling, so as to rhyme with smiling. or perhaps i'm way off the mark on this one and we in fact should be pronouncing smiling as smooling....its possible i guess...

  • I cringed at every single mispronounced word.

  • @greylajoie23 Sur Case of sorrow hahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @greylajoie23 sorry about that it was an international collab and not everyone is a native english speaker

  • @Annaconda1984 Oh, I forgave the ones who seemed not from English speaking origins. It was the Americans/Canadians that got to me.

  • @greylajoie23 i see...I'm sorry about it (if tried to watch for these things in my other poetry collaborations, I learned a lot out of this experience). I'd appreciate it if you check out my poetry playlist and tell me if the videos are better. It was extremely hard to get the footage together as people i originally wanted to contribute kept dropping out or not meeting the deadlines

  • brilliant!

  • We shall swim out to that brooding reef in the sea and dive down through black abysses to Cyclopean and many-columned Y'ha-nthlei, and in that lair of the Deep Ones we shall dwell amidst wonder and glory for ever.

  • what is this i dont even

  • you dont even what...?

    (-: it's a poem btw

  • @Annaconda1984 a very poorly presented one

  • it was good enough for the youtube frontpage

  • What a shame! It's enough to listen to this version after Omnia's version to understand how awful this one is! Poor Poe! You have literally fucked the greatest work of art!

  • you;re too funny

  • Well I am sorry Annaconda! I don't you don't find my sarcastic joke any funny at all but I just spoke my mind. Good luck making better videos

  • youtube featured it on it's frontpage (-: so it couldn't have been that bad

  • doesn't mean it's good either.

    in fact, it was terrible.

  • Darth Plaugus and Darth Malic/Lourd Major and Vassalie James ''Kurtis'' Fink,

  • what do you mean

  • Ah, Superlu! It´s a shame, she´s not here anymore, she was one of my favourite youtubers.

    Good job!

  • ya i miss her 2, i wonder what she's up to these days

  • Comment removed

  • man that brown guys such a faggot.

  • IDK what most of you guys are saying, i love 4:47 its the best part!

  • none of you tubers have any idea how to render this verse. doesn't mean that some of you won't in the future. in the meantime, boring and really not worth a minute let alone almost eleven. i'm reminded of the child buskers you see at christmas, proud parents standing by while the kid annoys one and all with their inclination to play the violin. not their ability. try it again. pick a few of the best people, ensure all read and understand the text, then give it a go. respect your audience....

  • you havent watched it to the end...watch it to the end and tell

NONE? What about the 4th stanza for instance 1.37-2.00

it's absolutely brilliant or like 4.44 (10th stanza); yes some people had language difficulties but everyone did a good job...It was good enough for the youtube frontpage

  • it has nothing to do with language difficulties. i watched it through and am still concerned you think it so "brilliant". no sense of meter or observation of line endings where the sense could be salvaged. it just ends up as a bunch of words. take the criticism and work on it again or you will just come across as an arrogant wanna-be. and sorry, you're probably not qualified to recognize a "good job", from a terrible one.

  • where exactly did i say it was brilliant?

  • now, now, don't be so irrational when you criticize this poem for it's "off-beat" meter. This poem is a copilation of various youtuber's works. Naturally, poems are meant to be interpreted differently by different people.

But don't get me wrong. This is my favorite poem and about 2/3 of the reader did slande rit's great name and put poe and his brilliant master piece to shame. But to the others that did read well, give them their praise.

  • 1:37 - 2:00

    is the best part!

  • what about 4.47

  • just said that cuz she's hottest

rly, all the ones w/ actual visuals r awesome!

    (drawing, acting, etc.)

  • her username is mememolly (-: if you aren't subscribed to her you should she's absolutely amazing

  • i love the raven

  • me 2

  • terrible , simply preformed outside the poam's meaning

  • it was good enough for a youtube front page feature

    (-:

    PS. Poem's not poam's

  • an old man with a long beard should read this great poem. this video forgets the mysthic part, the philosophy, the greatness, the dark shadows.... i don´t like it.

  • @91Lizardking you havent watched it to the end

  • This is great. One of my all time favourite poems and authors, interpreted today by everyone. Each contributor is giving their heart to the project, and that's what's so good. There's feeling and passion and power in every one of these readings and that is so cool. Well done each and every one of you. More please!!!

  • THE GUY AT 2:00!!!

    ROFLMAO!!!

    LLLLLLLenore!!!

    ROFL!!!

  • please! why do you have to ruin it all!! please take it down :(

  • Bah, it's a valliant effort.

  • stop reading off the screen batman!!!

  • the guy with the mask...shouldnt even be there it just screwed the vid further T_T i liked the idea of the drawing the raven but the camera and the sound behind it was not god for the ears

  • Great idea, really cool video.

  • well done all of you

  • Thank God for the girl at 1:38 , she was the only one who really did a good job with this. The rest of the people made a mockery of this brilliant poem by Poe. And to the girls in the beginning of this vid... the ones with the british accents, I hope you realize that there are "G's" at the end of words like RAPPING and TAPPING.

  • did you really watch the video to the end because if you did you wouldnt say that

  • BIG, BIG FAIL!!

    And nothing more...

  • boo

  • Awesome stuff

  • Hey guy, take it easy. I guess this was done for fun and I think it was a nice idea, uniting Ytubers with each other.

    They have done fine.

  • The girl who comes in at 1:38 is sexy. Love that accent & voice ;-)

  • the beautiful english accent of Mememolly

  • I need to meet this girl drawing the raven.I try to draw a raven over and over again and never got satisfied.this girl does

  • dodgey!!!! i got half way & heard about 4 mistakes...or am i being pedantic?

  • This is pretty good, but some of the speakers are much too serious to allow their own take on the emotional value of the poem.

  • does no one understand, this is a man fearing and in grief and terror... thinking, and through his though he comes to a realization ...on this realization he knows the horror shall never leave.

  • Hey, i think edgar himself would get a lift out of this. I liked it better than Walken's. This poem doesn't need any music--it is the music. Well done.

  • AAAAHHHHHH I want to rip my ears off and my eyes out! please pronounce your words correctly, and stop sounding like shit.

  • how does what you hear affect what you see (-:

and what will you do without ears after you rip them out, you could send them to either van gogh's brother theo or mike tyson

  • sorry this is pants!!! ruined the damn poem for me :(

  • sucks ass

  • The Batman hat kind of ruins it for me and in general it looks like a detergent commercial.

  • some of the guys are really good, some aren't....interesting vid :)

  • What 'twould mean to pass away, to simply go and this day, to end it all, both pain and joy. Is my life no more than a toy? A trifling thing to toss away, to be forgotten, never to stay. disturbing images in my head, some living, some dead. Those of fear, those of hate, those that strand me at Hell's Gate. One girl has been a single light, a beautiful lantern in a vile night. I love her, she may love me, But she's the joy I always see.
  • These guys suck

  • ...Half these people have no idea what they're reading are doing it so badly I can FEEL Mr.Rolling in his grave!

  • this people have no idea

  • make a better version and post it as a response (-:

  • yea wow that woman is beautiful who is she? hahaha =)

  • janekenoyer there's a link in the description to her channel (-=P

    enjoy your day

  • 5:55 gorgeous girl and very talented. :D

  • i think not bad of this version, though i have seen a better exursion, excursion of poetry, and forgotten lore,

what there is behind the door? the door of poe, poe's chamber door?

simply a raven and nothing more?

too simple it seems, for one to be so sure,

i ponder this here now and nothing more,

what of this raven?surely this is some metahpor?

what was poe trying to implore?

    a chamber door? a raven?

    must not forget lenore!

twas it all some metaphor? i remain to ponder nothing more........

  • by nothing more it means lenore is no more. so that he could forget lanore so his pane of losing her will subside.but he dunest want to forget lanore because he loved her .poe had a wife named lanore but she died in his arms. so only the raven was a metaphor...

  • Lovely idea, but the pronunciations and the accents are quite horrible most of the time!

  • forever more- the raven

    made here in baltimore

  • "A queint and curious volume of forgotten lorre?" You could've at least advised her on the pronunciation!

  • hm, i didn't listen to it the whole way through the first time.

i feel like some of the speakers nailed it, but many of them didn't get the tone and musicality of the poem. still, i think this is a great idea, and i'd be very interested in a second attempt.

  • Comment removed

  • Well, I realy prefer vincent price's version. As the guy said below, there is a sing-song rhythm. Well, not even Vincent used this rhythm whole =(... but his interpretation were truly better. Anywaym he's Vincent Price, the legend =D.

The better ones readig it were the man with a teacher face in 3:10, the girl at 4:45, that made an almost mad atmosphere with the B&W vintage video, the cuts and silences while drawning a raven, good. Te guy at 8:10, the girl after him (beacuse of the echo =)

  • And the guy at 9:40.

There is too the crescent and descend of the emotion at the poem, reachig two peeks, I think, one when the Raven appears, starting somekind of delirium state, while he (the poem's character) listen the Raven queeking and actually undertanding "Nevemore!", as if he was telling about Lenore (ravens are messengers from the other world, must remember =) and a descendant peek while reaching the final verses.

  • There is a kind of sing-song rhythm in this poem. No one seems to be getting it.

  • huh

  • does anyone know / have the nick of the girl reading the fourth verse ? she´s got a wonderful voice ... I would like to ask her to read the whole poem ... thanks ... I see there´s the nick mememolly at the end of the video but I couldn´t find the user here....

  • EXCELLENT!!!!! I on the other hand adore the clipped Britsh accent as well as the more nasal American drawl. And, I love the spin each persona adds to verbally drawing this picture Poe painted with his ancient words of yore. Only this and nothing more

  • uhh, is this supposed to be avant-garde? Because it's rather tedious if you ask me.

  • what you tried to achieve with this was admirable , i just dont think you pulled it off

  • this is very cool.

  • original collage... ^_^ I LOVE this poem <3

  • why so hostile?

  • Fuckin' Lame Ass !!!!

  • i LUV ur accent

  • Wow this was so cool! GREAT COLLAB!!! Got my subscription :D

  • Comment removed

  • how the HELL is this a video response to "katy perry hot n cold - youtube live '08"?????

  • uh. what urged you to re-tell the raven. and is everyone here british or something?

  • it's a very international collab...no not everyone is british

    1. belgian 2. us 3. georgian 4. british 5. canadian with indian background 6. british 7. us 8. german 9-11 us 13 german 14-17 us and 18 scottish so most of them are us actually

  • what urged us to present it is to see how different people interpret things and at the same time making it flow together (if you like poetry you should also see the i know why the caged bird sings collaboration where you see it more)

have an awesome weekend and thanks for commenting

  • Nice Work .... good to see poetry receiving attention and of course Mr Poe's. Great collaboration. Excellent Bran:)

  • last one was the best

  • I love this poem, and I love how you turned it into a collaboration...what a great idea!

  • That was quite an adventure. I love this poem,
