Finally!!!! An Enterprise that can defend itself! BTW this should totally be made into a series, its more interesting than all star trek shows put together.
@svartekaptenen I would have loved to have seen the klingons finally get their collective asses kicked by the terran empire! Those klingons love war so much, time to get served a healthy dose of blood pie from the masters of war, humanity!
Why sadly? I know that it is better to be on top than to be dominated. As long as we destroy any people from the future our ideology will not be corrupted. In reality I wish for a hybrid of the mirror universe and the federation. We are peaceful and work to advance society and technology but if you wish to start a fight, we will finish it.
Well maybe when America unifies the world, then we can have a strong Galactic Empire. Right now humans are too busy fighting among each other, we'd be no match against other Alien civilizations.
I always wondered how a world decimated by World War III was able to defeat the Vulcans just by commandeering one of their ships and establish themselves as the foremost power in the galaxy in just a few years.
You'd think that if humanity were more warlike in the alternate universe, they would have developed more sturdy spacecraft than the Feddies in the prime one.
Something more like the Defiant, instead of the saucer-stick-tube-stick-nacelle format like the Constitution, etc.
another historical example of how a nation could suddenly import and develop superior technology is during the Punic Wars. The Carthaginians (the sea power at the time) had superior warships and sea superiority. One day the Romans got a hold of a Carthaginian quadreme, reverse engineered it, built a strong navy themselves and eventually defeated Carthage (of course, with Hannibal they almost made a comeback, but thats another story).
It strikes me as unlikely that humans could make advanced technology better than the guys who made it. Especially when the Vulcans had a more advanced understanding of science than Terrans.
I know that. How dos that translate into a world conquering army? The Vulcans would sill have more advanced tech than whatever a bunch of looters found in one scout ship. They have much more of their technology than would be one small science spaceship.
@AbyssalZones it's a mirror universe, the vulcans were pacifests, plus the humans had nukes which they could have used to destroy vulcan cities and force them to give them their technology. and it's not just the technology it's how u use it, the terrans were ruthless and they spread their fear accross the quadrant.
Enterprise's Mirror Universe cannon didn't make sense. Vulcans are feared in the Empire, not enslaved. How could a primitive pre-warp world conquer several more advanced alien planets? Changing everything in history around to be overly evil was unnecessary. I thought the Terran Empire was supposed to be the mirror of the United Federation of Planets, not all of human history.
@AbyssalZones It had to start somewhere, we didn't just turn into super evil, murderous, conquest driven monsters when we built the first warp drive.
As for the Vulcans, maybe feared in Kirk's time, but this is a full century before then, and first contact came two centuries before...not necessarily feared from the start. Also, they didn't come decked out in full body plate armor capable of stopping bullets, so they were just as vulnerable to our weapons then as with phasers.
Well Star Trek is extreme in all its setting... The mirrorverse was interesting but no universe could really work that way. The world would have been destroyed as soon as Oppenheimer developed the bomb. And the US would have never existed because the British Empire would have been even more violent than it was in our timeline.
Yeah it's too bad there was only the 2 mirror universe episodes. I heard a rumor that if Enterprise hadn't been cancelled there was going to be more of them :(
In time, one can only hope that people will one day wake up and realize that WE live in the "dark universe". I honestly think that was Roddenberry's point from the beginning. Star Trek is a Utopian dream. Look around you... do you see joy? No. Economic calamity. Poverty. Starvation. War and destruction... and very soon World War Three. Make no mistake, WE LIVE IN THE EVIL UNIVERSE.

Also good to see the Tholians getting what they deserve. Wretched crystalline scum!
So, according to this opening sequence, it appears that the Terran Empire was enstated somtime between WWI and WWII. Perhaps an Altra Authoritarian reaction from the west (mostly U.S and British empire) as a result of the perceived threats from Japan, germany, and perhaps even USSR.
Considering that all races of humans are considered equal, it would make sense that the U.S and or perhaps even the British initiated the empire for some twisted reasons.
That all depends on if thos wars were started for the same reasons. In a star trek book, it said George Washington was one of the most notorious generals of the alternate universe, and invaded many contenants. So the governments, leaders and contry borders might have been completely diffrent.
Well not really, as the normal opening sequence is representative of Earths well meaning and good intentions going forth into the future, the mirrior opening is the opposite. They both depict two sides of a coin, just in the mirror the bad stuff is held in higher esteem than the good, so there's no way of knowing by looking at the sequence when the terran empire started, although I like the picard idea some one pointed out above.
whats wrong with making a mirror universe TOS era series. The technology won't have to be as bad as in TOS era as the MU has had a TOS era spaceship since ENT.
We already know from the ds9 mirror episodes it wasn't long after the two kirks switched places that the empire fell into decline and was militarily overrun and destroyed by the cardassian-klingon alliance. That's why.
I love that I got thumbs down'd for pointing out mirror universe canon, and that Federation Kirk introduced ideas to the mirror, that caused mirror spock to take over and, basically, run the empire into the ground...he missed the part about being able to act in righteous defense
oh really, spock managed to over turn the empire in what? a few months? even so i think they could fit in a seven year series into some point in the TOS MU era that would be fun.
I'm not saying it wouldn't be entertaining or fun, just that I have a hard time seeing what kind of episode value there'd be...the empire's already conquered virtually everyone in our corner of the galaxy, only the major powers of the franchise have managed to hold out. Sure, we don't know -exactly- how every event went to lead them to their end, but there's no doubt how it will end, that kills the draw of the show right there.
Now if it started off right after the end of the Ent mirror eps....
THEN we would have something worth watching...sure we know they'll eventually conquer most everyone, but how it gets done and such could leave us wondering until the end, and THAT is what draws in viewers, an exciting plot that you can't predict until you're blindsided by it.
It will never happen, seeing as how the Terrain Empire was defeted by the Alliance. Damn those Alternate Klingons, Bajorians, and Cardassians, they ruined the greatest Empire
Yes, the terran empire has been smashed, and earth is occupied....
But as we all know, occupations never last. A cool alternate universe series could take place on earth and chronical a Human insurgency... There are alot of other races that would be more than happy to help the humans liberate earth...
Well, there is a star trek novel series, written by William Shatner, where the Alternate universe Kirk, AKA Empiror Tiberius, trys to invade our Universe.
Its a three part series, the series is called Star Trek: The Mirror Universe Saga. The first book in the series is Spectre, the second is Dark Victory, and the third is Preserver. But if you didnt read The Return or Avenger, then you wont understand how James T Kirk is alive in Picards time.
LOL that shatner makes me laugh, he's so in the know about Trek he can write a damn book, but by the way he goes on in interviews its as if he's barely heard of the series. such an arse. I bet he's well into it, mega geek stylie, i bet he watches ALL the shows. even when he aint in it.
As far as what I have read, old Teddy Roosevelt, US President hasn't pulled out of office in 1909, but in 1910 proclaimed himself the American Emperor. At the end of WW1, he threw his support for the Communists in Russia, thus securing good relations with USSR. From 1920 to 1930 he, and later Franklin D. Roosevelt, conquered all of the Americas. Finally, Nazi Germany was crushed, and in 1955, Terran Empire was proclaimed by some form of alliance between US, Europe and USSR. Others followed.
Where did you get this information? I really cant see the politburo or stalin geting behind anything to do with a western empire forefitting their control over most of asia,
Besides, the Eugenics wars and WWIII were fought in the mirror universe too... therefore you would have needed an independent Soviet union/Russia until that least between the end of WWIII and first contact.
I read it on one Star Trek forum as a hypothesis about the Terran Empire creation and the Eugenics wars and WWIII was just like a pathetic uprising of some other people against the Empire. And it all failed, for Empire emerged from EVERY conflict stronger. The Empire has that special ability that it absorbs all technology and adapts to any opponent.
I just copied all that mate. :) Check on Star Trek Wiki forums.
of course i'm no trekkie and i may be totally wrong but i think the reason why Roddenberry decided to create a Mirror Universe is to show that if we humans dont learn to get along and deal with our innate fighting nature then we're gonna fuck ourselves over one way or another (i.e. getting enslaved)
Roddenberry's Mirror Universe wasn't enslaved, that didn't become apparent until DS9. Until the Crossover/Shattered Mirror storyline, it was probably assumed that Spock reformed the Terran Empire to be more like the actual Federation. Though I believe your view is what brought about the DS9 storyline.
start when the revolution war begins and i think it ends at the same time that deep space 9. i think around seasons 2 or seasons 3. because in voyager the empire is gone.
@HazMatMedia The empire will fall. We will appose your communist dictatorship. We will die. But there will be more of us. You can't stop us. We will eventually topple the table. We will band together with your enemies and shred you. You WILL fall. It's just a matter of time.
Genocide one of the more troublesome alien races, maybe the Andorians. Just like Caesar with the Gauls at Avaricium. Once chastised, then buy off more 'reasonable' aliens through the Imperial Franchise. Let Vulcans assume the Imperial Purple, for instance.
This should have been the opening theme to Star Trek Enterprise and they should have stayed in the mirror universe. It kicked so much ass it had to take a break to get their boots re-soled so they could kick even more ass.
Not really. There are several Star Trek books where the Terran Empire never fell apart. The are "Shattered Union",and "Q's and A's". It is explained in a TNG episode thare are several quatam realities were history happened differently.
I postulate a quantum reality where 19th and 20th century history goes as follows: Marx promoted not world economic revolution, but world political revolution. Marx sparked 'super'-nationalist movements in many nations. Through the movement gained initial success in Russia, it accelerated in reaction to the nationalist carnage of WWI. With the conversion of Hitler to Super-Nationalism, the movement became a military campaign that achieved world unity and founded the empire.
It's interesting to note that for some reason if you search YouTube for "Star Trek mirror darkly theme", mine comes up first, but for some reason your video doesn't even show up in the results of that seach. In fact, the only way I came upon this video was because it was a related link after my video. Odd the way the YouTube search engine works.
If I'd known about this, I wouldn't have bothered uploading my video.
As it was, back in May when I uploaded a nearly identical video (minor adjustments, such as the lack of TV station logo in mine), trying to search for the opening credits of the Mirror Darkly episodes would get you plenty of videos, but none that had the original music.
The Teran Empire episodes were the 1st ST spinoff episodes to make me go "whoa! THIS IS BITCHIN!!" since some of the Dominion War episodes of DS9. Too bad it was too little too late for "Enterprise"
I like this intro because it's close to reality as there will be dictators like Bush in power from our own governments in the near future that could change our world into this. I'd sadly say things in this world are getting much closer to the mirror darkly universe Star Trek of war rather than the hopeful Star Trek.
I've only seen clips of this double episode on youtube and it does look stunning.
Don't forget the hopeful Star Trek had to have horrible things happen to it before they thought the way they do, The Eugenic Wars of the 1990s killed 113million people. Their World War3 in 2044 killed 450million.
The Mirror Darkly opening hints at in interesting alternate Trek future, one where a mid-20th Century political military movement united (conquered) the Earth and spawned the Empire. The movement presumably fused the 'one-world egalitarianism' of Communism with the ruthless militarism of Fascism (the Roman-style Imperial symbolism). After a ruthless World War II - style global conquest, the movement welded humanity together and embarked upon new conquests among the stars.
That's interesting because in a few of the star trek books that deal with the mirror universe it's stated that the Terran Empire existed in the days of Ancient Rome.
One can also imagine an Ancient origin for the Empire. As cited in Plutarch's Life of Alexander (Alternate Universe edition): "When Alexander surveyed the Patagonian wastes that Aristotle and the Andean sages both assured him marked the greatest extent of the world, he thrust his sword into the sand, proclaiming that all the Earth was truly his domain."
Maybe Julius Caesar escaped assassination and realized his ambition of extending the Roman Empire over the entire Earth. Then again, the casual viciousness of the Empire fits well with an alternate reality where Genghis Khan truly became the "King of the Earth".
In one book called "Shattered Union" Mirror Riker said that the Romans admired us for taking care of the Persians for them while they crushed the Tartars. Our empires would have fought eachother but Rome fell apart and we had a hollow victory.
I don't think it's possible for that to be the turning point. During "In a Mirror Darkly", Phlox mentioned that classical literature is different in each universe (except for Shakespere).
I don't think they were exactly "war hungry". The Augments main problem was their massive superiority complex, and believe d they as the "super-humans" were superior to and were meant to "rule over" the standard-issue humans.
Ahh, a fusion of Stalinist and Nazi Germany's concepts of totalitarianism. The subordination of the individual to The State. Very "Orwellian". People often fault "Enterprise" for being too dark... they must have forgotten TOS. I love this episode.
The Next Generation was the best in terms of individual episode plots, although the first couple of seasons were rather dull. The later series of DS9 come in joint second place with Voyager. Enterprise was good occasionally but generally I found it boring. I think I prefer a good Original series episode over most Enterprise episodes.
Bull Shit, Enterprise didn't even have 5 seasons. Voyager was the best season, but TNG was the most successful. My fav was Voyager because it wasn't like all the others. Different.
I think you meant to say "Voyager was the best SERIES"...
Anyways, I liked pretty much all the Star Trek series' They all had their good points. Personally I was a big fan of DS9 mainly, but Voyager and TNG come in as a close tie for 2nd.
Wow you guys must be the only ones who like DS9, DS9 was killing star trek, and it was the only star trek on, so thats why they made voyager. Voyager is the best one. It has the best story.
This was such an awesome episode, with the perfect opening title sequence to match. The sinister music was great too. Hate to see the dark side of humanity but it was an exciting episode nonetheless!!
I disagree. The "regular" ENT series is probably the most realistic protrayal of what real life preliminary interstellar travel will be like. Though to be fair, in the Star Trek universe we did have to go through another World War with the Augments before reaching this point.
Indeed, if they had just given this series a fifth season covering the Earth-Romulan wars, it would've been awesome. Perhaps they could still do it as a DVD-only season (not for television)?
I like how the historical montage of war becomes increasingly more flooded with propoganda. Very fitting for such a repressive empire.

tremedar 2 years ago
oh really, spock managed to over turn the empire in what? a few months? even so i think they could fit in a seven year series into some point in the TOS MU era that would be fun.
kendrawhisp 2 years ago
I'm not saying it wouldn't be entertaining or fun, just that I have a hard time seeing what kind of episode value there'd be...the empire's already conquered virtually everyone in our corner of the galaxy, only the major powers of the franchise have managed to hold out. Sure, we don't know -exactly- how every event went to lead them to their end, but there's no doubt how it will end, that kills the draw of the show right there.
Now if it started off right after the end of the Ent mirror eps....
tremedar 2 years ago
THEN we would have something worth watching...sure we know they'll eventually conquer most everyone, but how it gets done and such could leave us wondering until the end, and THAT is what draws in viewers, an exciting plot that you can't predict until you're blindsided by it.
tremedar 2 years ago
It will never happen, seeing as how the Terrain Empire was defeted by the Alliance. Damn those Alternate Klingons, Bajorians, and Cardassians, they ruined the greatest Empire
porpus99 3 years ago 2
Yes, the terran empire has been smashed, and earth is occupied....
But as we all know, occupations never last. A cool alternate universe series could take place on earth and chronical a Human insurgency... There are alot of other races that would be more than happy to help the humans liberate earth...
A Dominian-Terran Alliance Perhaps?
translucentorb 3 years ago
Well, there is a star trek novel series, written by William Shatner, where the Alternate universe Kirk, AKA Empiror Tiberius, trys to invade our Universe.
porpus99 3 years ago
what is the title, I must find and read it
tsuyoshi15 3 years ago
Its a three part series, the series is called Star Trek: The Mirror Universe Saga. The first book in the series is Spectre, the second is Dark Victory, and the third is Preserver. But if you didnt read The Return or Avenger, then you wont understand how James T Kirk is alive in Picards time.
porpus99 3 years ago
LOL that shatner makes me laugh, he's so in the know about Trek he can write a damn book, but by the way he goes on in interviews its as if he's barely heard of the series. such an arse. I bet he's well into it, mega geek stylie, i bet he watches ALL the shows. even when he aint in it.

I'm really interested in this universe...
I wish there was some stuff out there that describes who the emporer is, what the lineage is. How does earth look? Politically speaking.
translucentorb 3 years ago
As far as what I have read, old Teddy Roosevelt, US President hasn't pulled out of office in 1909, but in 1910 proclaimed himself the American Emperor. At the end of WW1, he threw his support for the Communists in Russia, thus securing good relations with USSR. From 1920 to 1930 he, and later Franklin D. Roosevelt, conquered all of the Americas. Finally, Nazi Germany was crushed, and in 1955, Terran Empire was proclaimed by some form of alliance between US, Europe and USSR. Others followed.
cooltoshaftw 1 year ago
Where did you get this information? I really cant see the politburo or stalin geting behind anything to do with a western empire forefitting their control over most of asia,
Besides, the Eugenics wars and WWIII were fought in the mirror universe too... therefore you would have needed an independent Soviet union/Russia until that least between the end of WWIII and first contact.
translucentorb 1 year ago
I read it on one Star Trek forum as a hypothesis about the Terran Empire creation and the Eugenics wars and WWIII was just like a pathetic uprising of some other people against the Empire. And it all failed, for Empire emerged from EVERY conflict stronger. The Empire has that special ability that it absorbs all technology and adapts to any opponent.
I just copied all that mate. :) Check on Star Trek Wiki forums.

I would like to see the Terran Empire go up against the Borg, the Terrans would probably assimilate THEM.

redDL89 3 years ago
of course i'm no trekkie and i may be totally wrong but i think the reason why Roddenberry decided to create a Mirror Universe is to show that if we humans dont learn to get along and deal with our innate fighting nature then we're gonna fuck ourselves over one way or another (i.e. getting enslaved)
redDL89 3 years ago
Roddenberry's Mirror Universe wasn't enslaved, that didn't become apparent until DS9. Until the Crossover/Shattered Mirror storyline, it was probably assumed that Spock reformed the Terran Empire to be more like the actual Federation. Though I believe your view is what brought about the DS9 storyline.

Enjoyable intro, if a little cheap looking CGI-wise, but was a good episode in all...

Couldn't really expect them to do much better for an intro that would only be seen twice and probably had only a few weeks to prepare, if that.

Genocide one of the more troublesome alien races, maybe the Andorians. Just like Caesar with the Gauls at Avaricium. Once chastised, then buy off more 'reasonable' aliens through the Imperial Franchise. Let Vulcans assume the Imperial Purple, for instance.
Hottides 4 years ago
This should have been the opening theme to Star Trek Enterprise and they should have stayed in the mirror universe. It kicked so much ass it had to take a break to get their boots re-soled so they could kick even more ass.
carnivalofsouls2047 4 years ago 5
The terran are nothing more than bloodthirsty Roman wanabees that got what was comming to them in the DS9 mirror episodes.
lukegreen3 4 years ago
Not really. There are several Star Trek books where the Terran Empire never fell apart. The are "Shattered Union",and "Q's and A's". It is explained in a TNG episode thare are several quatam realities were history happened differently.
pytko3 4 years ago

Odd the way the YouTube search engine works.
kvn8907 4 years ago
If I'd known about this, I wouldn't have bothered uploading my video.
As it was, back in May when I uploaded a nearly identical video (minor adjustments, such as the lack of TV station logo in mine), trying to search for the opening credits of the Mirror Darkly episodes would get you plenty of videos, but none that had the original music.
kvn8907 4 years ago
The Trek mirror universe is so cool. Could almost do a whole series on it.
AmazonGir1 4 years ago 3
The Teran Empire episodes were the 1st ST spinoff episodes to make me go "whoa! THIS IS BITCHIN!!" since some of the Dominion War episodes of DS9. Too bad it was too little too late for "Enterprise"
magic8ball2112 4 years ago
I like this intro because it's close to reality as there will be dictators like Bush in power from our own governments in the near future that could change our world into this. I'd sadly say things in this world are getting much closer to the mirror darkly universe Star Trek of war rather than the hopeful Star Trek.
I've only seen clips of this double episode on youtube and it does look stunning.
slashville 4 years ago
Don't forget the hopeful Star Trek had to have horrible things happen to it before they thought the way they do, The Eugenic Wars of the 1990s killed 113million people. Their World War3 in 2044 killed 450million.
pytko3 4 years ago
The Mirror Darkly opening hints at in interesting alternate Trek future, one where a mid-20th Century political military movement united (conquered) the Earth and spawned the Empire. The movement presumably fused the 'one-world egalitarianism' of Communism with the ruthless militarism of Fascism (the Roman-style Imperial symbolism). After a ruthless World War II - style global conquest, the movement welded humanity together and embarked upon new conquests among the stars.
Hottides 4 years ago
That's interesting because in a few of the star trek books that deal with the mirror universe it's stated that the Terran Empire existed in the days of Ancient Rome.
pytko3 4 years ago
One can also imagine an Ancient origin for the Empire. As cited in Plutarch's Life of Alexander (Alternate Universe edition): "When Alexander surveyed the Patagonian wastes that Aristotle and the Andean sages both assured him marked the greatest extent of the world, he thrust his sword into the sand, proclaiming that all the Earth was truly his domain."
Hottides 4 years ago
really?
when was the turning point of this history?
i mean...its the roman empire? or something before the roman empire? or coexisted with the roman empire?
MISANTHROPE00 4 years ago
Maybe Julius Caesar escaped assassination and realized his ambition of extending the Roman Empire over the entire Earth. Then again, the casual viciousness of the Empire fits well with an alternate reality where Genghis Khan truly became the "King of the Earth".
Hottides 4 years ago
that genghis khan reality was mencioned in any of the series or the books?
MISANTHROPE00 4 years ago
In one book called "Shattered Union" Mirror Riker said that the Romans admired us for taking care of the Persians for them while they crushed the Tartars. Our empires would have fought eachother but Rome fell apart and we had a hollow victory.
pytko3 4 years ago
In trek cannon the turning point was the eugenics wars. The bio-engineered humans were all war hungry.
gravesclay 4 years ago
I don't think it's possible for that to be the turning point. During "In a Mirror Darkly", Phlox mentioned that classical literature is different in each universe (except for Shakespere).
mustang6172 4 years ago
I don't think they were exactly "war hungry". The Augments main problem was their massive superiority complex, and believe d they as the "super-humans" were superior to and were meant to "rule over" the standard-issue humans.
acb06172005 4 years ago

Blur66 4 years ago
Wow you guys must be the only ones who like DS9, DS9 was killing star trek, and it was the only star trek on, so thats why they made voyager. Voyager is the best one. It has the best story.

I think there should be a Mirror Universe Star Trek TV show! And Patmweav is probably right.
Xavier22116 4 years ago
probably a more realistic prediction of where the human race is going unfortunatly.
patmweav 5 years ago
I disagree. The "regular" ENT series is probably the most realistic protrayal of what real life preliminary interstellar travel will be like. Though to be fair, in the Star Trek universe we did have to go through another World War with the Augments before reaching this point.
acb06172005 4 years ago
The only hope for this the last (currently) Series is if they incorperate the Dark Mirror in a Movie of some sort...

Too bad this was the series that was considered the demise of Star Trek.

Indeed, if they had just given this series a fifth season covering the Earth-Romulan wars, it would've been awesome. Perhaps they could still do it as a DVD-only season (not for television)?

The Romulan War could have rescued ENT like the Dominion War rescued DS9.
