  • It is amazing what people can go on to achieve once they are given an

opportunity. Can you imagine if Sam Phillips and Scotty Moore would

have listened to this song and the other song that Elvis recorded in the

summer of 1953, and then they decided not to give him an opportunity?

Elvis would have spent the rest of his life driving a truck or being an

electrician, and he never would have been able to share his beautiful

    voice with the world.

  • Happy Birthday Elvis! You had the most beautiful voice ever. I love you and RIP.

  • love this song his voice is so pure gold..

  • did elvis mother ever smiled ?

  • @Flames177 She is smiling in the 2nd photo which is the most of a smile I've seen on here. She also is smiling in the 2 phtos at 2:16 and 2:18 even though some wouldnt consider that much of a smile but it still is one.

  • Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww,love this!!!!

  • Happy Birthday Elvis! We miss you so much!!

  • Happy Birthday Elvis....Love you 4 ever !

  • The beginning of a legend. The king forever.

  • elvis would surely have gone down the road of recording country ballads like this, if sam hadnt held out for what he was looking for. it was sam phillips who pushed elvis down the r.nb road by putting out the releases the way he did. and we thank him always and forever!

  • This was the start....of live

  • The moment they pressed record for him to sing...History was made. RIP ELVIS the KING

  • I wish that Elvis' mom did't pass so early....E would've lived much much longer

  • nolege?? you mean knowledge?

  • My great grandfather, Anthony Giarratano, wrote this song for his wife, my great-grandmother Mary Blanda Giarratano as a love letter. It was stolen from him by a "friend" and published and recorded by Elvis. It took too much money for my great-grandfather to claim his property, when he almost had the chance his lawyers office burnt down with all proof and documentation

  • @etjunebug An unpublished version of My Happiness with different lyrics was written by Borney Bergantine in 1933. The most famous version of My Happiness with lyrics by Betty Peterson Blasco, was published for the first time in 1948.

  • I must be going ev`rywhere where the music takes me....oh this is wonderful........you`re always with us Elvis.......

  • when he walked into sun records, he thought the woman wouldn't take him serious so he had to make up the sweetest thing possible so he said he wanted to make a record for his moms birthday. which was a lie. after his session he went back and told her the truth!

  • @betsyandbrittanyLIVE YUP! He was so shy about it and she found he a right sweetheart

  • This was the start for the King.....You can hear the freshness in the voice and the rest his History !!!

  • Wow!First song ,SO BEAUTIFUL!!!

  • Very great song...:o)

  • Check out Aussie girl Judith Durham version singing with Londoner Max Bygraves on You Tube...gr8 song from Connie Francis

  • Connie Francis used to sing this as a child. It them became a million seller for her once she became a superstar.

  • this is Elvis first record.. wonderful

  • So haunting and beautiful. No fancy recording equipment and one guitar . The sweetness of his young voice and deep love for his mother. We are blessed to have this recording still.

  • Thank you for posting. going to graceland next feb. oh yeeeeeeeessss

  • @powerwilson Hi, well I guess you have now been to Graceland, I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did, I can only describe it as indescribable. The whole week was amazing every single second.

  • HI rosechris, just got back. Went to new York for three days, one mad place. Then had a full day delay to Menphis due to snow at Newark. Only had six hours a Menphis before flying to Orlando. Graceland amazing. Met George Klein who signed his book , photo etc thank you george. Elvis and Graceland amazing. All people black and white were there from many countries. Thank you Elvis

  • powerwilson. Knew you would enjoy it.

  • Ed Leek is presently fighting a serious illness. But he is optimistic.

His 1953 "My Happiness" disc is for sale.

See details by searching Irelandtoo + Elvis

  • God bless Edward Leek Jr.

He embolded Elvis to go to a recording studio.

And on this day the 18 years old young man who would be "The King", he plucked up courage and went on his way to the Memphis Recording Studio.

Thank you Jackie for the upload and marvelous pics and to remind us about this milestone in music history. I'ts because of people like you, the reason why, his legend continue.

    (sorry for my english)

  • Thanx 4 that 1 jackie c¨,)

  • Is my nolege without knowing when I say this was recorded before the well know "thats all right mamma"?

  • You are correct. He did not record That's All Right Mama until July 5, 1954, almost a year after this was recorded.

  • Has it been established what month in 1953 that the very first single was recorded ?

If it was for his Mama's birthday then it would be April 1953. But I read it may have been July.

Also we know , Elvis re-recorded "Heartaches Begin " for RCA four years later. I would like to know why he chose not to re- do "My Happiness", "I'll Never Stand in your way" or "Without You". Anyone has a theory as to why?

  • @larsoelandhansen This was one of two first songs he recorded 1953

  • @larsoelandhansen this was recorded for his motherin 1954

  • Mit Elvis begann alles!!

    Elvis,mein Herz gehört Dir!!

Mutter,Vater,Respect vor jedem Leben,Das ist Dein Vermächtnis!!

  • God's birth!

  • Good job! This is one of my favorite songs, I think this song is so fantastic. It brings tears to my eyes every time I hear this song... I love it...

  • a wonder

  • MAMA , Ich Liebe DICH!!DANKE ELVIS !!!

  • BEAUTIFUL!!! Thank you so much:)

I love it, may Elvis, Gladys & Vernon rest in peace!

  • Gladys was one pretty woman, and so beatyful smiles in some of this pics.

Thank you for uploding this 5*****

  • Amazing...

  • hermosa

  • The lyric writer's name is Betty Peterson, not Person. She's my mother. Please make the correction on your sidebar, and thanks for posting this tribute to both a classic song, and a classic artist.

  • why does elvis's mother always look so miserableee???

  • you might learn about her if you do some research on her life..she had difficult times she had to deal with her husband going to prison.left all alone with an infant ...

learn something about empathy!!!! look it up in the dictionary

  • I might be wrong but I think she had a number of health problems all her life.

  • Written by Betty Person and Borney Bergantine. This is the first song ever recorded by Elvis at Sun Records, which was previously named Memphis Recording Service. In August 1953, when he was 18 years old, Elvis recorded a $4 acetate with My Happiness on one side and Thats When Your Heartaches Begin on the other. The demo surfaced in 1988, and was not released until after that time. It is available on Great Performances and The King of Rock n Roll-The Complete 50s Masters.

  • he says blue there strangely,,well but its a great song :d

  • As you know, this was Elvis very earliest recording. "My Happiness" is such a very beautiful ballad and Elvis' rendition of it was absolutely perfect in every way. Elvis will always be the greatest thing that's ever happened to pop culture, the music industry and the entertainment industry. Elvis was and will always be a true one of a kind. Elvis has truly made an ENORMOUS impact on my life. This video was absolutely perfect in every way, 10 Stars as always Jackie.
