It was a penalty, he was pulled back and it was a definite red card as the defender was the last man (except the keeper) and that is a professional foul and a straight red card.

That PK was in my opinion a little questionable but probably deserved but the red should have been a yellow. It is hard for the ref to determine that though.

Well, I wasn't really referring to the PK. The ref was just bad throughout the whole game. The second LA goal is questionable. I think one of LA players were off-side.

For the record, that was a red card and PK. I have no complains against that call at all.

I'm glad soccer is getting more popular in the states, but this is pathetic quality. Galaxy wouldn't even score one goal against any West-European first league. Maybe with a Beckham freekick but that's it. If you want to see real FOOTBALL you should search for the premierleague or the primera division. BTW I recommend you watch Robin Van Persie, a dutch guy.
