Camel had so many great cuts off this album alone. I was always amazed that they never amassed a bigger following. But such was the fate of StarCastle as well, along with many truly brilliant jazz/fusion groups (Wishful Thinking, Metro, etc. etc.). Meanwhile the world is Gaga (both literally and figuratively) over so much crap. Oh well ... maybe there's intelligent life on some other planet.
I gotta thank my dad here. He introduced me to Camel as a kid, but I was too young to understand much about the music. Then around 14-16 he showed me Camel, King Crimson, Marillion, Gentle Giant, and most recently when I was 16 he showed me Porcupine Tree. Ever since then, I threw out my Linking Park, POD, etc and bought myself some real music. Thanks dad, I love you <3
@audaceinfuga they are amazing...have been into these guys for many a year...a little more pop-ish might be starcastle....another band midish/late 70's....not as tech perfect...same karma ! lol ..stoned again

oh, maybe this is a good conversation starter: what is the best version of Camel's timeless "Never let go" available on Youtube? BTW if you hadn't guessed, I'm a big fan myself...
OMG i love this song so much! I have Camel's Mirage album. However, I think I'm going to purchase this album next! Either that or one of Gentle Giant's albums. Check Gentle Giant out as well. They're funky as hell.
@svouras My fave Camel song is Unevensong, followed closely by anything off Mirage, but this is also good. This is the only song Breathless I like though.
I have the album on vinyl, too....and Moonmadness, Rain Dances, I Can See Your House from Here......Prized possesions!! Love this music!! Thanks for posting!!
@StudioMasterS500 Prog bands in general either have really cool names or really dumb ones. No middle ground. Regardless of what they chose to call themselves Camel rocks.
Amazing. I've been a huge fan of Opeth for years, but I'm ashamed to say I've not gotten around to listening to Camel until lately. I can really hear how these guys had such a huge influence on Mikael Akerfeldt's song writing. I'll be buying some Camel albums now!
Sadly Pete Bardens died a few years ago and we are fortunate that Andy Latimer is recovering well from a serious illness. I have 2 cd copies and a vinyl one (an original!) and will not be selling either. Camel were and still are brilliant. I saw them many times and was always stunned by their virtuosity. An Israeli called Talul is attempting to keep the music alive literally - check them out !
I like "Breathless" which cover is beautiful graph paper designed.I'm interested in, on this album, Camel attempted to complete every pieces, not album oriented. The combination of Latimer and Bardens reaches the ultimate point. So to go foward, Latimer had to say goodbye to Bardens. But I think Bardens is the only partner of Latimer.
@progfreak425 I listened to Camel because my dad introduces me to prog rock, Then I know prog metal, and prog death metal and I presented these new kinds of prog to my father, and now he likes... Camel and Opeth are great bands...
@jburde yea so grateful to Opeth for introducing me to this im also grateful to Katatonia for getting me into The Cure, id heard alot of there songs but it wasnt until really giving them a chance i appreciated them alot more, its great to for me as a young person in my mid 20s to hear the true influencers of the bands of my generation, i listen to the great stuff i like from katatonia and opeth and then i can also listen to Camel and The Cure and feel where the magic originated before i was born

Echos is awesome! Camel is a band that fares well as time continues. Breathless more so. Great album and band. Latimer is such a great guitarist. As a HUGE Genesis fan I enjoyed mixing things up with Camel OFTEN. It was a nice changeup (along with Jethro Tull and Yes).
I don't like putting labels on types of music, or comparing bands to other bands. If the music is good, or even great, listen too it. Don't compare or judge. One thing that can be said about Camel, is that they made great music. A very underrated band during this era of music. I loved this era. The music was wonderful. I Liked all the bands that came out during this time.
I heard that Camel was given frequent legal trouble from Camel Cigarettes back in the day because of the name and occasional album art camel that apparently infringed on the likeness of Joe Camel, whose likeness greatly resembles a common camel, and yet you never heard about camels suing Camel Cigarettes. Truly, camels are wiser than people. Poor Camel.

Echo above the plains.
I enjoy Pink Floyd, and I first heard them long before Camel. However, I can select about 20 Camel tracks I'd prefer to listen to over any Pink Floyd track. This is probably #1.
@lockefan seek help, Pink Floyd is a great band, but they don't have the market cornered on talent or creativity. I can't stand when people can't appreciate music and musicians without bringing out their measuring tape.

the best stuff just got better! One of my favorite bands of all time. 30 years later, they still sound fresh. I liked all the different infuences of progressive rock, jazz, folk, rock, classical crossover, etc mixed together in the same song or same album. That is what makes them interensting. The lyrics run from fun, to ethereal, philosophy , sarcasm, stories, love to mindless. They were so original. I was heartbroken when Peter Bardens died of cancer-he was one of the best keyboard guys.
@PeterRye58 That's a really tricky one... I think their run of albums from Mirage, through Snow Goose to Moonmadness represent their peak. My personal favorite is Moonmadness, but that's very possibly because it's the LP that introduced me to the band. I love them all! Which is your favorite?
@PeterRye58 Mine too! It just shows what an excellent band they are that 2 listeners can have such different favorites. I also really like their work with Richard Sinclair, and adore his work with Caravan and Hatfield.
lol the first first time i heard this i thought to myself...is there a japanese RPG advert or something going on that i dont see? Japan should pay Camel for every RPG they make xD
One of the most underrated bands of the so called progressive rock era. They produced some wonderful music. Incredicle live as well. Thank-you for posting this. One of my favorite all time songs.
This brings back many happy memories. Saw them at the Colston Hall in Bristol during their Nude tour. I can't understand why they weren't more successful than they were. The musicianship is outstanding.
I went to my friend's college and in their rec room in a box of vinyl WAS THIS ALBUM. I'm a huge Camel fan, so I was flipping shits!! Took that baby home straightaway.
More prog to look into.. Gentle Giant, Yes, Pink Floyd, Genesis, King Crimson, Jethro Tull, The Tangent, Glass Hammer, Porcupine Tree, Dream Theater (prog-rock/prog-metal), Opeth (progressive death metal), Transatlantic, The Flower Kings, Animals as Leaders, Liquid Tension Experiment, Van Der Graaf Generator, Cynic (progressive death metal/prog rock/jazz fusion), Amogh Symphony, (progressive death metal), Augury (progressive death metal), Gorod progressive death metal), Gong, Hawkwind, and more.
@iGorship777 If you like prog-jazz-classical music you should check out Jean-Pierre Alarcen if you haven't already, it's amazing. There is one album on Spotify.
@iGorship777 May I add The Mars Volta, Captain Beyond, Renaissance, Lucifers Friend, Eloy, Radiohead, Supertramp, The Soft Machine, and of course, the man himself, Frank Zappa.
Un temazo! excelente!

@cheekymonkey1979 I really like their "Breathless" album, but Raindances just
has the edge; possibly it's their most varied album with the new bassist,
Richard Sinclair ( Ex Caravan) who is brilliant & sings pretty well! Harbour of Tears
is also a very good concept album based on an Irish theme. I have ALL their
albums and they are all consistently excellent!! My Top Group of all time!!!

@PeterRye58 Mine too! It just shows what an excellent band they are that 2 listeners can have such different favorites. I also really like their work with Richard Sinclair, and adore his work with Caravan and Hatfield.

Peu m'importe les esprits chagrins qui dénigrent cet album.Bien que différent de ses prédecesseurs il est tout aussi bon,la preuve avec ce titre.

@iGorship777
Any prog list without mention of Tool is flawed. Especially since you included PT, DT, and Opeth.

@MarkMadnessSH You probably mean any prog list without mention of Symphony X is flawed.

@iGorship777 If you like prog-jazz-classical music you should check out Jean-Pierre Alarcen if you haven't already, it's amazing. There is one album on Spotify.
