I personally prefer Lang-8. You can type journal entries in various languages and fellow native speakers of the language will critique and proofread your writing.

The problem with omegle, as far as I can tell, is if you're only targeting ONE language, then good luck finding the person because the odds are stacked against you. Even if you do find the person, he/she may just be a pervert, rude, disconnect prematurely, etc.

I had a second chat with a person from Korea and we spoke English. In both chats the gender was not a topic, so I don't know, if I spoke to men or women. They asked me about my age and I informed them. Both people were much younger than I am, but that's normal in the cyberworld. We spoke about languages and hobbies. Fasulye

I just talked to a guy from Indonesia. The conversation was going fine and suddenly he calls me a bitch and disconnects... lol? At first I typed to him in Spanish and he replied with fake Lithuanian, haha. This is fun but there are a lot of trolls.

I went through 7 people before I got to speak to one and he started by mixing spanish and french together to confuse me... come to find out, he didn't even know what he was writing because he didn't know the languages... but we had a kool convo after that. I wouldn't go back though. Good luck.

It's a great idea in theory, but as others have mentioned, my biggest frustration was the amount of people, "trolls", who would disconnect or say things that weren't serious.

Have you ever tried Livemocha? I like that site; find it a lot easier to communicate with people. Not to mention you choose who you talk to, therefore enhancing your chosen language skills. =)

The concept seemed cool at first; meet people from different countries, talk to them about their country, hopefully in their native tongue. However, after attempt ten in finding someone to communicate with for more than two minutes, it's clear that most of the people on this site are not as serious about this as you and I are. Most of the time I couldn't even type "How are you?" before they disconnected. No, not the greatest site in my opinion.
