You can see a couple of queens standing behind the clock waiting for that rare prone promotion. And the two chess pieces behind the electronic time piece are waiting too! :P
Puzzled why early in the opening naka removed his B from b3 - c2. Usually the two bishops "eye each other" for ages as for black he'd welcome Bb3xBe6 for then his f7 pawn now on e6 controls d5 AND f5 and can lend support to a q-pawn advance not to mention he gets a half-open f-file whereas white after Be6 x Bb3 he gets a half open a-file, his b3 pawn controls c4 AND a4 etc. But then again i'm NOT a super grandmaster like these 2 stars. (Must have had his reason for playing Bb3-c2 . . .)
In this position Naka has to exchange rooks (otherwise he loses his knight). The ensuing pawn ending is lost: 3 pawns vs 0 (with or without knights) and there is no practical chances even in blitz....
@xtuber25 Nc5 played by carlsen was very strong. With that move, Carlsen protect the black hook, atack white hook, and there is another atack on white knight with b5 pawn. Theres no time to save the knight becoz the atack on white hook, and if white decide to exchange, black ill win easily 3 passed pawns. (black Nxb3, white Nxb7).
Dodgy opening even at blitz. Then naka seems to be hypnotized by carlsens manouvering, and has a clear LACK of a plan. Seems to be in awe at carlsen. Mind you, we ALL are!!
I like how Carlsen maintains a steady precision in moving his pieces, even with sub-20 seconds left. Nakamura is slamming his pieces all over the place, knocking some over, etc, but Carlsen remains calm, fluid, and patient.
@9:42 : Finger-slip from Hikaru... the rook is at d7 not d8!! Magnus could haven taken the rook, but he adjusts it to d8 where it was originally intended. Isn't that a sign that Magnus MIGHT be a gentleman after all?
Or maybe he knew he was winning anyway and didn't bother for a dispute.
So Nakamura is not the unbeatable blitz God like so many of his fans like to call him on ICC. They even claimed as much that no world blitz championship is legit without his participation and he will destroy all opposition in Blitz! ha ha ha ha ha.
I don't see how one could say nakamura got "destroyed", it was a various close game till the very end, the time pressure was incredible. Carlsen did amazing in the endgame though kudos. The future titans right here foks, much respect.
You know, for being the best chess players in the world, they sure do sometimes use really shitty chess sets. I mean, I can tell those pieces have no weight to them, and I could probably find a better one at a local gift shop for $50.
@dmed312 would you rather they played with a $1000 giant star wars chess set? With storm troopers and ewoks as pawns, vador and yoda as kings, and jar jar binks as night. They're playing on a perfectly normal tournament chess set and it doesn't matter how much it costs...
@dmed312 The set used here looks like a standard German-style Staunton, with the king at 3.75". Wooden pieces are not cheap, and I would estimate the ones used here at about $80 without the board. The board does not look very expensive since it is so thin.
Nakamura came to this tournament quite cocky but his performance was not up to par and he could not place in the top 3. I think his attitude is quite arrogant. I'll admit he's a very talented blitz player, but those are not the patzers on ICC. And of course in terms of regular time control he still has a lot to learn to be among the best
I think "Destroyed" is a WAY too strong a word for the outcome of this game. If this is destroyed. What do you call going up a "major" piece, or a Queen, or CheckMating someone???
I don't know why there are Naka haters, and Carlsen lovers, or vice versa. I guess it's like haveing your fav player in a sport. But pointing out every little eye roll, or fingerfehler? Bottom line, they're both great players. I think all the attempts at charater assasination are as poor as the title of this video.
For everyone talking about the fingerfehler, in professional blitz it's courtesy to overlook accidental knocking down of pieces. All games have it at some point or another -- or at least the vast majority. It is unacceptable is when a piece is picked up with the intention of being moved, then placed down again. And for those saying it's an equal game, just look at the moves yourselves -- it's not. At the end position, Nakamura is losing either his rook or his knight. And is several pawns down.
Because of the position I am inclined to believe the fallen bishop was an incident. But Carlsen has a record of such incidents when he in fact DID try to take back moves- against Aronian, Gashimov, Kosteniuk, Savchenko and others.
Also, he touched a piece that was left of the intended pawn move, with his right hand.
the hype aura created over Nakamura derives from simple american nationalism. it’s a kind of crusade for a national chess hero mobilizing hundreds of north-american patzers. a player who arrogates to be best in the world has to prove himself by playing professional and inspected games against the best players in the world. so long, he systematically failed to destruct his world class opponents like babies. even though, for his adulators he still is the eternal promise pregnant of anticipations
I thought that blitz chess didn't play touch move. I've played in a couple tournaments and we played clock move where you can touch the pieces but as soon as you hit the clock your move is up.
Outplayed might be a fair word to use. My point is that I've played (and seen) thousands of blitz games over the years, and the words crush, destroy...have usually been reserved for overwhelmingly one-sided games that are also usually short.
This game was still somewhat competitive until the last minute of play and reached a R,N, Pawns endgame. I'd be happy to lose this way to Carlsen, and I don't even think most top players would feel too shameful losing this way either.
Oh, yeah, when you talk to him, he makes a very good impression as a person. Today, during the break, he did not go to the VIP area for GMs for the buffet but rather went to a nearby public cafeteria to eat some pasta... I was sitting almost next to him...
Nakanura showed weak positional play and if you go for an attack, then a player like Carlsen will crush you in the endgame if you are not ahead by at least a pawn...
@ZucchiniMann what r u talking about wanker?? it was nothing!! dont try to find something where isnt anything,, fucking dumb, better, learn some chess
@ZucchiniMann Do you mean that Nakamura could have contested the fact that Carlsen touched the bishop first and must move it? What are the rules in official tournaments for accidental touches?
@DancingWasabi : Good question <;O) Let's wait for somebody really knowing the rules. You can't always prove that it was just an accidental touch. My guess is that if you really touched the piece accidentally, you shouldn't be forced to move it.
@ZucchiniMann I just LOLLED. Look, Magnus accidently pushed over his bishop while failing to reach his d-pawn. If Nakamura had claimed "touch-move", he would have been completely out of line as it was obvious Magnus had no intention of moving his bishop. Where would he move it? To c8? YOU GUYS DEPRESS ME!
Basically this was pretty damn normal. No godlike forgiveness from Nakamura's part or anything, just Magnus' amazing lack of body-coordination hitting the spotlight.
@ZucchiniMann It seems to me that Carlsen is rather sportive at 9:43... this comment about a fingerfehler and fairness is a little too critical to my taste. :-(
@ZucchiniMann I have no idea if he is fair because of his personality, but if he did say something about it he would just make a bad name in the chess society..
@ZucchiniMann I have no idea if he is fair because of his personality, but if he did say something about it he would just make a bad name in the chess society..
@ZucchiniMann The touch rule is retarded anyway. I think that if you change your mind before you hit the clock your move should be legal in any circumstances.
@ZucchiniMann Agree. when you accidentally turn or push over a piece, clear for the whole world to see,.. it was a mistake.. your opponent MUST have understood it was just a mistake with no intention of playing the piece. would have been different had you accidentally picked up a piece of your opponent..:)
I think GM Nakamura could have won this game. But he lost. Playing with white. Got worse from the very beginning. Never had a chance to revert the game. Completely outplayed. Full point. Now that's a lie, of course:)
they play the middlegame like little scared children. at least naka was attacking with flank pawns carlsen was just playing the sit and wait strategy.
This game comes right in the aftermath of Nakamura's infamous tweet ''I am going to destroy Grischuk like a baby in the blitz'' following his draw with the latter in the last round of Tal Memorial 2010. Nakamura is known for his trash-talk but many found he just went too far this time. ''To destroy someone LIKE A BABY'' is not a common idiomatic English expression. Whether the guy is mentally challenged or has very poor social skills is still up for debate.
@konigstephan I think he is slightly challenged, mentally speaking. I can remember him trying to piss off a computer by creating a mating net with 10+ knights.
Carlsen is truly amazing! I love his moves! h6 - to make a nice little house for the DSB. f6! to make room for the Queen and support his e5 pawn. He is just MASTERFUL!!! Thank you for this footage! I was on the edge of my seat!! GO CARLSEN FOR WORLD BLITZ CHAMP!!
Great game thx a lot for upload ! bishop for square c4 - looks like a simple plan to defend the queenside - then square c5 , the black knights might like such a structure - somehow black just takes more care about open d - i wonder if at some moment bh6 was worth a try instead of be3 - then f4 a critical move - looking for activity but black gets e5 and e4 gets weak too - the endgame is just too easy for black - very well played !
@x6801 If Naka said that, perhaps he deserves criticism. On the other hand, this was not a crush. It took some time to win, but I think Black was better after chasing White's Queen away...anyway I'm glad as I like Carlsen and I play 1...e5 myself!
@bumblebee1607 After the 8th min in this video. Carlsen just dominates Nakamuras end of the board with simple tactics. Naka is also down so many pawns the last 30 seconds, and is on the run for the entire endgame. So yah, its just to say Carlsen destroys Naka (aka Mr. Blitz).
And as Black nonetheless, that is pretty darn good.
@pwells01 on a high level chess tournament like this, to make your opponent lose a piece on the endgame with 20 secs left... well, i would call that a pretty good ass kicking
Carlsen is #1 for a reason.
Oh ..and to the zots that want to reply 'he's not #1' - yeh he is.

simply Nakamura doesn´t have ever any chance of anything in all the game...

@Pliquer
Yeah, but it draws more attention :)
bumblebee1607 1 year ago
@bumblebee1607 Not all attention is good.
This is negative attention, as you lied.
People watch the game waiting for Carlsen to "destroy" Nakamura, and it
never happens.
It also is at the expense of GM Nakamura which is quite a lousy and
selfish thing to do.

@sotovo
I think GM Nakamura could have won this game. But he lost. Playing with white. Got worse from the very beginning. Never had a chance to revert the game. Completely outplayed. Full point. Now that's a lie, of course:)

Good game, good camera work, tricky rook and knight endgame.

A very nice example of how to slowly grind your opponent . Still, I hope Nakamura wins the World Blitz Championship.
jakecarlos 1 year ago
Last I had an ICC account Nakamura used to always play 3 0 not 3 2. Nakamura started playing fast when he probably should have w/o increment
tubertomp 1 year ago
they play the middlegame like little scared children. at least naka was attacking with flank pawns carlsen was just playing the sit and wait strategy.
mburch1974 1 year ago

Great game thx a lot for upload ! bishop for square c4 - looks like a simple plan to defend the queenside - then square c5 , the black knights might like such a structure - somehow black just takes more care about open d - i wonder if at some moment bh6 was worth a try instead of be3 - then f4 a critical move - looking for activity but black gets e5 and e4 gets weak too - the endgame is just too easy for black - very well played !

x6801...now that's some "bad language" on your part.

Is there a site that has the game in Java?
Sejaynus 1 year ago
@Sejaynus Google "Chessbomb". They have all the rounds, but not all the moves for this game for some reason.

After looking at the game, why is "destroy" the verb used?
pwells01 1 year ago
@pwells01 because Nakamura had said that hewould destroy an other strong competitor like a baby. Naka has a bad language IMO.
x6801 1 year ago
@x6801 If Naka said that, perhaps he deserves criticism. On the other hand, this was not a crush. It took some time to win, but I think Black was better after chasing White's Queen away...anyway I'm glad as I like Carlsen and I play 1...e5 myself!

@pwells01
Well, I guess, winning your number 1 opponent in the first game with black... that's... ok, let's call it "a good start of the tournament":)
bumblebee1607 1 year ago
@bumblebee1607
Agree on that. Magnus had a good first day!
pwells01 1 year ago
@bumblebee1607 After the 8th min in this video. Carlsen just dominates Nakamuras end of the board with simple tactics. Naka is also down so many pawns the last 30 seconds, and is on the run for the entire endgame. So yah, its just to say Carlsen destroys Naka (aka Mr. Blitz).
And as Black nonetheless, that is pretty darn good.

@pwells01 on a high level chess tournament like this, to make your opponent lose a piece on the endgame with 20 secs left... well, i would call that a pretty good ass kicking
