Nice sound. Check my short HiFi Ltd videos that show the sounds coming from a close cousing of the Vox AC15. Handwired in 60s with a simple mod I use the 6br7 (similar to EF86 pentode) channel or the triode channel ECC83. Also check the Pure Tone page in Facebook for more info and pics.
@neozecat: Hey there, I used a JTS JS1T Large Diaphragm condenser for this. It's a pretty cheap mic that I bought for recording vocals. It turned out to be pretty hopeless as a vocal mic but brilliant for recording guitars, so there you go.

Try that REM song using open chords instead of closed-position chords. You'll notice the difference.
