I just wish all American kids got to see this. This is a perfect example of people who are mentally, physically, musically, and morally fit doing things that require tremendous discipline.
What a great example of what kids in this country should aspire to be like!
Next year, I'm going to be leading a drill demonstration at the middle school where I work with a bunch of at-risk kids for our Veterans Day program. I plan on showing this to them as an example of what is possible when you work together. Can there be a better example of precision and teamwork? I don't think so.
Wish me and the kids luck.
It's been a while since I've done done drill manuevers.
My brother was at 8th and I in the mid 80's. We were blessed to be able to go and see the friday night parade. I will never forget it. It is just amazing. You don't realize what work it is just watching, but my brother was exhausted afterwards, and he was a trophy winning wightlifter at the time. The end was the most touching point, when the lone Marine played TAPS. My brother also got to meet Pres. Reagan and Premier Gorbechov, buried Lee Marvin, and saw many dignitaries. Amazing
This would have been much better had there not been so many interruptions in the video.
Regardless, watching the Silent Drill and Band can't help but make you feel proud to be an American! The pride I have in my son and his Corps brothers is immeasurable. God Bless the Marine Corps! Semper Fi!
You are so right. I want to be in the USMC Band but I hate it so much in highschool. I'm top in our district with a score of 94. Highest in the state of Georgia. I graduate this year and am going to the Marines. I sign my official papers in 15 days. Nervous hehe
brings tears ot my eyes because of the pride of being a marine and the duty to serve also for the welfare of my little brothers who served in iraq i served in iraq 13 years thank for this video my favorite now
I had the honor of driving the Drill team and the Presidents band on west coast tours to parades and special events back in the early 80's. I recommend you attend a live showing if you ever can. These guys are awesome! Semper Fi!
As a non-military man I can only watch in amazement. It seems to me you can see the embodiment of every value dear to the Marines in that display. Courage, honor, dedication. I am humbled and awed.
If it hasn't been mentioned already, The beginning of that vid features the Commandant's Own, USMC Drum & Bugle Corps. Proud to say that my brother played with them for four years. Together the CO and the SIlent Drill Platoon put on one hell of a show.
hi sir!!do you know were can i buy a cd of comandants own here in nevada?buy the way im a member of one of the drum and bugle corps in the philippines!!thank you sir..god bless you!

There is a 44 Minute DVD available, you can go to my profile by clicking on my username, and you will see a link to the website on the left side in light blue.
Keep watching, It's over 5 minutes long. The Drum and Bugle Corps, "The Commandant's Own", is one part of the Battle Color ceremony. They perform first. The Silent Drill Platoon excerpts start at 2:41 into the video, sometimes the best is worth waiting for. Thanks for your comment.
Regarding this clip with the drum line featured in the begining, can you tell me what it is from? Is there a CD or DVD available with this clip included? I have seen a lot of " 8th & I " videos and none have this clip of the Drum Corps in it. When and where was it taken?
I thought it was important to include as the Battle Color Ceremony is not just the Silent Drill Platoon, but includes the Drum and Bugle Corps as well.
There is a 44 Minute DVD available, you can go to my profile by clicking on my username, and you will see a link to the website on the left side in light blue.
Thanks, I went to the suggested site and it appears to have the same pic's on the album as the clip I mentioned. I placed the order and will write a review after I see it. This will be from my point of view as a former member ot the Drum Corps.
I played in the 8th & I Drum Corps back in 1959 to 1961. We were good but these guys are really good. We had single valve bugles, snare, tenor, and bass drums. That was it but we were from the old school drum corps from the late 1940's & the 1950's. Still love listening to them. Semper Fi.
In 1955 when I was in boot camp, (Parris Island), we filled out a history paper as to what we did as civilians. I happen to play in a drum & bugle corps and that was picked up by the school. By the way, the "Field Music School" was also in Parris Island and i attened it for three months. After my tour in Okinawa I was sent to 8th & I in Wash Dc. I never heard of the school in VA.
I went there in 86 it is on the LFTC atlantic base. It is where all branches went. I don't know if it has changed. I was disappointed how weak the program of education was then. I ended up not enjoying playing anymore. I had fun going to the beach to drink and chase girls though.
The school they're referring to is the Armed Forces School of Music, a joint musician school. Although, now you have to audition prior to boot. I auditioned in Quantico, before I could even be considered to get into the band. You are from the days where we did things a lot different though. Oorah gyrene.
Thanks for the Comment, but this has nothing to do with Texas A&M or High School Bands. Totally Irrelevant. The Silent Drill Platoon's silent designation refers to the "No Verbal Commands Given", during the Silent Drill Platoon portion of the Battle Color Ceremony. And the Correct name is Drum and Bugle Corps, they are not a Band.
It is the commandant's own not the presidents own. I a soloist in the Marine D&B in 87. The presidents own does not go to bootcamp and they have woodwind instruments, the commandants own is just drums and brass. T. Tucker, Cpl. USMC 85-89
Semper Fi! Marine. I also corrected someone earlier about the difference between the president's Own and The Commandant's Own. I wrote an article over at ezinearticles which also covers this. Thanks for serving, Marine. Joe USMC(1983-1989)
Yep, Beautiful is the Song by James Blunt. He also served as an Officer in the British Army, serving at Buckingham Palace as well as Kosovo. Interesting bio on that guy. Good Song too.
having marched in dci drum corps for several years....i'm not sure the pres own would make the top 12 based on this performance. quite a shame since it is their job. less heart goes into it i am sure, understandable....especially considering the president. the silent portion of the drill is impressive.
Thanks for the comment, but this Video does not contain the President's Own, that term is reserved for The Marine Corps Band. Your Mistake.
Anyway, this is the Drum and Bugle Corps, The Silent Drill Platoon, and Color Guard. These Marines go through Boot Camp. :-) As for your less heart going into it, actaully you wouldn't know that either. Their Marine Officer I met there, a Captain, had two Purple Hearts, and he is a True Hero. Thanks for the comments.
The first excerpts show the Drum and Bugle Corps' Music in Motion Performance, then the Silent Drill Platoon Excerpts and a portion of Pass In Review with the Marine Corps Hymn.
