  • This is an effective commercial: it repeats the name of the product to a jingle that became an earworm to those of us who grew up in the 60's. Much more effective than the scenario commercials today. For example, I'll never forget the recent commercial in which a man has his hand down a garbage disposal when his wife walks into the kitchen and flicks either a light switch or the on switch for the disposal. I can't for the life of me, however, remember what was being advertised.

  • Love old cigarette ads. All old ads when they used creative jingles especially. Never forget them.

  • Winston taste good AS a cigarette should. That mistake was the death of this ad campaign. Fascinating.

  • w.o.w. they even used musical notes then. Music was manditory in public schools in california--everyone knew where middle 'c' was...now, its yakkity yak, rap crap, call yo' woman a 'ho if she 'gives it up; etc.

  • Once you hear the jingle, you never forget it. Especially the "double-clap." Excellent example of a "catchy-tune" in advertising.

  • Then Winston Tastes good like click click cigarette should. Now. COOOOOOOOOUUUUUPH! GAAAAAAAAAAG! AAAAAAAAAACCCCCCCCKKKKK! DEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • what version of After Effects were they using????

  • Winston taste good like lung cancer shoud

  • Michouacan tastes good like a funny cigarette should.

  • lol i always sing that one before lighting a ciggerete although i dont smoke winstons i smoke rollies :P

  • "Winston tastes bad like the one that I just had-no filtter, no flavor, just cotton-pickin' paper" HaHa-later became a Winston smoker before switching to Marlboro.

  • @hdwell We had a slightly different lampoon here in Northern California:

"Winston tastes bad like the one I just had. No filter, no taste, just a 20 cent waste."

  • Back in the mid-1960's, we were singing on the school bus, another version of this jingle: "Winston tastes good, like a cigarette should....No filter, no flavor, just cotton-pickin' toilet paper!" Fun to see and hear this again (and funny).

  • I know sing that now and you would probably get suspended from school.

  • wow wat kind of film tell me

  • I got to admit, that's a dam catchy song.

  • This ad was first seen around 1955, when the brand was beginning to establish itself among filter smokers (eventually Winston became the #2 brand, after Marlboro). Usually seen on Winston's two popular sponsored series of the day, "I'VE GOT A SECRET" and "THE BOB CUMMINGS SHOW".
