I went see them 6 times from '78 thru '84 They absolutely KICKED ASS

    lots of excellent memories

    THANK YOU VAN HALEN

    ROCK ON!!!!

  • anyone notice the ending is virtually the same ending as the album version of Hot For Teacher? Ed was always using ideas for other stuff later on.

  • Lead vocals...Bo Derek!!!

  • THIS IS THE DIVER DOWN TOUR FROM THE SUMMER OF 1983. I WAS FRONT ROW IN VANCOUVER, BC AT THE PACIFIC-COLISEUM. THE ENTIRE FRONT ROW WAS ON THE BACK OF THEIR SEATS, AND THREE SONGS IN, EVERYONE FELL BACKWARDS LIKE A WAVE INTO THE SECOND ROW. COPS SURROUNDED THE COLISEUM, PARAMEDICS GIVING GIRLS CRUSHED AT THE FRONT OXYGEN. BEST SHOW I'VE EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE, HAND'S DOWN.

  • @calsurf21 Did Van Halen open for someone-or did someone for Van Halen?

  • Yer ,I reckon they showed about 15 seconds of Eddie playing in this clip, seems to be the same with all VH early clips saw one yesterday where they showed a close up of Anthony on Bass during the entire scorching guitar solo , WTF ???????

  • @11junglegym

Something was going on during Eddie's solo.

    See the roadie jump out?

  • @johnnybeane: a microphone cable problem is my guess.

  • Michael Anthony's bass line is bad ass

  • Seriously, stop bitching about DLR.

  • dave needs to takes some lessons from Dean Martin. that guy was drunk or smokin half the time on stage and he still sang like an angel and knew alll the words. he even pulled off a good comedy act.

  • Love the camera work during the guitar solo. Filming MA on the drum riser...duh. Gone forever.

  • Dave is getting his lounge act in order here. He sucks here, to many drugs Dave, made your hair fall out and your face to get that retarded look, too bad. And what about that waredrobe, his sister's closet?

  • I saw this concert July 17th, 1981 at the worlds greatest arena

  • @multirushfan

How can this be a typical band? All of them are great!

  • I miss real music like this.

  • also notice the pre hot for teacher ending?

  • awesome but as always lets focus on everything but eddie when he's rockin his solo..

  • Geez, today's bands are a fucking joke compared to this stuff.

  • @tonusaitis Amen

  • @tonusaitis

    spot on. they are.

  • @tonusaitis u got that right

  • The BEST. There will never be another band like Halen... EVER.

  • The greatest rock ever. It will never be like this again!

  • Fricking awesome song, and I loved this album! Pure showmanship in this clip...

  • This is the real deal...

  • Mike killing it on bass throughout this track as well.. sickness

  • @ecstasteve Too right. Let's see Wolfy play that eh? Lol....

  • I well say this comment in engish and spanish, dutch, this era well stay with me 4ever ! Esta era bien quedarse conmigo para siempre! Van Halen y dave para siempre, la video es chido wey ! Deze tijd goed blijven mij voorgoed! Bestelwagen halen en dave voorgoed

  • dave will always be the lead man of this band

  • Dave is the best 'cuz he had such a good rapore wit the band whileon stage. Notably, he even the rocks with his bassist. Almost unheard of! Thanks Dave and Eddie, you were (are) the friggin best!!

  • Roth is VH #1, then Sammy closed the chapter...

  • That, sir, would be a lead guitarist.

  • I agree with Big Timmy...I saw them in 1981, 1982, 1983, 1984 and they were the bast band I ever saw by a country Mile! The first time I heard them do Mean Streets I thought I had died and gone to heaven! Atomic Punk as well! This Kicks serious ass.

  • Comment removed

  • @eddievanhalenstoung there is only one bass player...

  • Comment removed

  • David Lee Roth was so badass that he didn't even have to sing if he didn't want to. There will never be another Van Halen.

  • @ATeam192 Robert Plant was the best pure vocalist, however, David Lee was a monster in showmanship and audience connection!

  • @generationaluv David Lee Roth also had some vey cool vocal chops. He's an underrated singer because of his style, but could belt out a tune quite well actually :) Love Robert Plant btw, but they're 2 ends of the spectrum.

  • @ATeam192 Hey I am totally w/ ya! I luv DLR! they tried, and had success w/ some "other" singers, but damn, David is just plain the Effin Man! The early stuff (not the typical radio stuff) showcases his bluesey style. simply second to none! if I had a choice, Ii'd rather pay to see Roth. but yeah, it is a spectrum thing! (which is where I saw VH in the early 80's).

  • @ATeam192 VanHagar sucked.

  • @TrainingStream Well VanHagar eventually sucked big time. I really thought 5150 had some of the old magic on it. The timing was great and Eddie was on top of his songwriting game. Songs like Why Can't This Be Love, Dreams, and When Love Walks In are among my all time favorites. OU812 they began a downward spiral, but Finish What Ya Started and Sucker In A 3 Piece were lethal tracks. Everything after Sammy started to get about as campy as the Partridge Family. And I loathe Chicken Foot!

  • Agrees with ALL

  • Mike Anthony Rocks!! Pity he won't be In Australia with the Band for Sound wave revolution 2011

  • What? Lady Gaga doesn't put on a show like this??

  • Eddie resterà per sempre il più grande! Non c'è niente da fare. Eddie will always be "THE KING". Che classe, che stile innovativo. Talento puro. Love you Ed!

  • Same ending as Hot For Teacher.....yes! Back in the day

  • Atomic punks are the closest to their tone vocals and everything else

  • Just awesome. Ive seen this band 8 or 9 times and everytime I saw them I was blown away. This is Van Halen kicking ass and taking names.

  • what a band. nothing like this shit now. no music now days kicks me and the balls like van halen did in the 80s.

  • If I could learn to play any Van Halen song, this would be it!

  • In their prime......

  • This... is.... I have no words how cool is this :)

  • too young to see them in concert when my bro came home w/ 1984 cassette. had to wait 20+ years to see them in vegas for reunion tour. they rocked - awesome concert. my HS football coach would tell me stories about early jams at parties in Pasadena when he was in HS. what has come close to this band other than Led Zeppelin, which I would place in a different bucket. everything produced in last 15 years is total crap (except Lady Gaga - WTF?...). tell some VH live concert stories...

  • Thanks bro

  • Anyone notice that they used the live ending of this song as a way to endHot for Teacher on 1984?

  • Did you ever notice the live Van Halen bootlegs seem to be better than their released live shows.

  • @rb7magnetico That's because they haven't released a live concert with Dave. ;)

Van Halen '78-'84, the ONLY era that matters!

  • diamond dave

  • Saw them in 79 in NYC ...one of the best shows ever!!!!

  • ONE OF VAN HALENS BEST!!!

  • I'd like to second the motion that It's FANTASTIC how the fused The 'Hot For Teacher' ending to this performance, even Mike's descending Bass Line is audible.

  • Drunkass Dave distortin all over the place^

  • the people who disliked this video are probably old people who thinks this is devils music.... lol...

  • 10 people are real douche bags

  • @pfcwar5150 - Just remember man, this is the world wide web. We are dealing with potentially 6 billion people. I'm sure there are AT LEAST 10 douche bags that don't appreciate Van Halen..........Fuck em'!!!!!!!

  • i love how they end in the hot for teacher ending

  • Very cool. One of their greatest tunes. I wish they would have kept the camera on Eddie when he did the solo. Still very cool.

  • everyone here gets it...badass fuckin shit! no more needs to be said...but say it anyways mutherfuckers.

  • By fair in my book Van Halen CD "(Fair Warning)" rules over all of there other cds any day of the week. Yes there new cd will be out this year with out mike on bass it will be wolfgang on bass Eddie Son.

  • Brutal!

  • One of the BEST HALEN songs EVER! It PREDICTED NOW! JUNKIES PROS DRUGS DISEASES ETC.... ALL MUSIC AMAZING!!!

  • Gosh you got a peek up his tiny gruntmuscle

  • New album coming with original band in 2011...bet you thought it would never happen again!

  • WHERE THE F(*&CK IS VAN HALEN...time for a new album I'd say...There will never be another

  • Let me tell ya something kidddies, your not gonna see another band like this ever. These mother******s rocked long and hard. They paid their dues, cut their teeth early and often in any old venue to develop chops, and in the process inspired generations and legions of imitators and melted a lot of faces. EVH = Best, no more bands like this my friends. At least when you went to see them, you felt like you had a set.

  • @bigtimmy1100 Couldn't have said it better myself!!!!

  • @bigtimmy1100 that's the greatest comment ever

  • @bigtimmy1100 I`ll drink to that!

  • @bigtimmy1100 idiot

  • @bigtimmy1100 Dude, I couldn't agree with you more!! You haven't seen a live show, like VH had in the 80's. Eddie played with an inspired wickedness like no other back then. He alone elevated my playing to a whole different level!!

  • @bigtimmy1100 we wont have more van halens, deep prples, led zeppelins, pink floyds and the like, we have shit now.

  • @bigtimmy1100

    Holy Christmas Shit!!!

    'Nuff said.

This man - BigTimmy - has said it all in this statement.

There's never been a bigger live band - EVER.

Aerosmith is the Greatest American Hard Rock band ever, but VH hit the stage with a passion that's never been seen before - they RULED the early 80's and have NEVER been duplicated.

Long Live the Summers of 1981 - 82!!

Fair Warning and Diver Down -

    Simply irreplaceable.....

  • @Max58594 Then you would of loved to attend the concert I went to in 1979. Van Halen opened up for Aerosmith. If that doesn't give you an orgasm, I don't know what will.

  • amazing guitar riff. Out of the limit.

  • @bigtimmy1100 you sir are awesome!!

  • @bigtimmy1100 No doubt. Big van of early Van... Dave exudes confidence. However, He sure took alot from Robert Plant (Led Zep)

  • @bigtimmy1100 I agree with all of my heart.

  • check out "little dreamer" from this same show.

you can search: van halen '83 little dreamer brazil

  • i cant share this with anyone its just not good quality!

  • What kind of idiot director/camera man shows the bassist when the guitarist is doing a solo?

  • @scottm43211 one that prefers to smoke a bearded cigar,,rather than capture the worlds best guitarist rippin out a scortching solo!!! VAN HALEN ROCKS!!!!!

  • notice the break after his solo?

i suspect he went into an extended solo and some filthy a-historical wretch edited it out.

  • Sick!

  • Just wanted to say daves vocal abitity is so great he could act like that and dudes, including myself , would spend our cash including lunch money on his music and concerts and call him the badest MF"er alive. thats the proof of his vocal ability. today that amazes me he did that cause i was .and stiil am a one cool Moe D!

  • @Carpx11 Yeah, that was lame, bro....and def not proof of his vocal ability.

  • Van Halen will always be one of the great original hard-rock party bands. I didn't really get into later Van Halen with Hagar and so on. Not just because of Diamond Dave but, the whole attitude was different with the original band.

  • This footage with Roth speaks for itself: THIS is Van Halen. This is a real rock n' roll band. Nothing against Hagar, I like the guy. But I don't see how anybody could think the band was better with him in it. There is no Van Halen w/o Diamond Dave.

  • ED made VH great in the studio DAVE made VH great live

  • @downincognito76 it takes a team effort to either get it right or blow it altogether......van halen is the exception to that rule!

it's the dave and ed show!

  • Credit to mr. anthony for holding down those backing vocals.

  • @WhaleBlueEye Eddie could sing too. He often got drowned out by Mike's falsetto, but if you check out the US Festival footage, Ed's mic is louder than Mike's and you can actually hear him. He had a good voice and provided the middle of the harmony on those classic tracks. Too bad he wrecked it with smoking 2 packs a day for 40 years of his life.

  • @WhaleBlueEye Bring back Mikey!!!!

  • Hope they get on the road SOON.

  • Where have all the good Times Gone?

  • Diamond Lee Roth = COOLEST ROCK GOD EVER

    Sammy Hagar = BORING ASSHOLE

Diamond Lee Roth = FUCKED SO MANY HOT GIRLS

Sammy Hagar = RAPED NIGGERS FOR FUN

  • Kids look listen and learn... those guys where the best!

Eddy was a fuckin deamond on GTR, and Diamond Dave do the rest!!!

    Van Halen mother fucking RULES!!!!!!

  • I wish I had seen them in concert 2. A gig I think that Van Halen should pursue in is either doing a concert or touring together with Metallica. That would b fucking awesome!

  • Well it is a good thing that Eddie reads these posts.?. Because he can not read a note of sheet music. And it shows. With out Mr. Dave this band would have gone nowhere. It was and always will be Roth's band Period

  • @gethsenamane EVH is one of the very best pure rock guitarist EVER. And you sound like some sub 50 IQ loser putz with 0 talent who can read some sheert music but could not play your way out of a wet paper bag. The again, that's what talentless douche bags like you do, post crap on youtube about great players. Now go crawl back under your slime covered rock with your cockroach mommy and daddy, lol

  • DLR ass raped almost every single concert he was in off rhythm off key and he missed half the words in every song. He just became noise in the background

  • my friend thinks that def leppard is better than van halen. should i punch him in the face?

  • @5150sdh YYEESSS!!!!!!

  • I would punch him in the face, lol, Van Halen was the most perfect harmonic melody band ever, def leppard was ok but not even close to the talent of the halen brothers.

  • wtf??? 1:20-1:30 bet the one behind the camera was a lady......

  • MORRAM DE INVEJA!!!!!!

    TODOS ATÉ OS GRINGOS !!!!!

    EU ESTIVE LÁ.......

EM 83 COM A ERA LEE ROTH

    A MELHOR FORMAÇÃO

  • @MrBetoBrazil Bem certinho!

  • This looks like the Diver Down stage, I caught that show in 1982

  • saw them in Rio during this tour in 83, my best gig ever, and later I saw the best bands on Rock in Rio 1, RnRio 2, most of the rock bands in BZ and US, but no one compares with this one, 2.5 hours non-stop with VH at their best, diver down tour.

  • Rock the house ! My all time heavey metal band !

  • Dave speaking Potugese with the fans in Brazil. Dave speaks Spanish too and a little French and Hebrew. Dave translated some of his early works and released them in Spanish....Eat em and Smile for example.

  • one of VH best

    tunes

  • my favourite Van Halen song. Really mean and dirty.

  • long live real musicians .where have all the good times gone?todays bands flatout suck.with their 3 chord chromatic bull.if you dont understand what i mean then i rest my case.

  • @pazman59 Yep. It's all a bunch of whiny, self-important, misspent youth crap. Those idiots play electric guitars as if they are acoustic guitars, banging on them non-stop and running everything together like mush. And IF they play guitar solos, the solos SUCK...

  • "Quem quer mais ROCK N" ROLL?!?!?!!!!!"

  • Shit, Dave. Remember any of the other lyrics? A little fucked up are we?

  • totally funky and rockin without forgetting about the ROLL!!!! This album was my fav Halen . Awesome VID. Thanks for posting!!!!!

  • Sick of the same ole faces.......and I hear that same ole talk

  • @Hunkola That's right! DLR could come up with serious lyrics! This is why they were great with Roth, they had real songs

  • What you think is nothing is something after all!

  • I love David's voice !

He is really a unique singer <3

  • eddie van halen

    yeah!!!

  • ii was there

  • Love this song!

  • @gdroberts08 look at big bad al go !!!!!!!!!

  • .i'd like to see these pussies swig whiskey all night and play like eddie did !! today's hard rock is , for lack of a better word, horse shit , and inundated with pussies who think they can play music and write songs..the rock world has become a soft , marshmellowie, disneyland for kiddies !..what ever happened to debauchery, whore mongering , whiskey swigging, hard rock maniacs.??.i'll tell you what..they're either retired , dead , or sick ! this new generation should be taught a lesson !

  • @blica1 i think of rock today or whoever think there rock arent becauze they do not know you hav to hav rythem and feel it not just play it

  • ahh.. when hard rock bands could actually play they're instruments.!!! .today's young shit hole bands are a bunch of tattooed clad ,wanna be metal-punk, pussies who have no concept of musicianship or song writing !! record label whore-prefabricated cock polishing knobs who originated from their middle to -upper class up bringing , and who begged their parents to buy them the most expensive instruments when they can't even play

  • SB1O70

  • Like Led Zep, when VH got funky, they were VERY good at it. As a drummer, my two favorites have always been Bonzo and Alex. The chugging locomotive drive of this live version is quite primal. My absolute favorite VH song.

  • This is one of my favourite riff's by Eddie - rough, speed, a lot of fantasy and clear - the best kind of Van Halen.

  • What the hell happened at 2:08?

    LOL

  • This reminds of Ultimate Warrior for some reason.

  • @CCSofChocolatesvill

lmfao, classic. yeah, ultimate warrior must have been a roth fan, got the flowing cloth strips goin!

  • Alex busts his ass!!!

  • great song, i thought i would never see it again

  • DORAMEGATO MISTER ROTOTOM

  • david lee sounds like shit

  • @jonnyasprin He always changed it up in concert the way he sounded at least... I think he sounds great here actually

  • @KISSAceGenePaulPete1 kiss mabey your right,i have never seen him in concert,i only know what i have heard off the studio recorded album.

  • @jonnyasprin Well, it is almost impossible to repeat everything Exactly live

  • too bad ed doesnt read all the posts.........he needs a reality check. big time.

  • the did the end of hot for teacher, cool lol

  • If anyone wishes to hear an original tune in the fashion of vintage VH. Feel free to stop by here. VH is a historic band and forever a powerhouse.

  • One of the most rockin' tunes ever - from arguably the greatest heavy metal band of the 1980's... This one goes out my buddy Billy ~ You know who you are and why this is dedicated to you ;-)

  • This is Van Halen. I remember staying up late at night on Fridays just hoping that they would be on Rock Concert or Midnight Special. Sammy Hagar is alright, but every group has a combination that makes them a supergroup. Traffic was better with Winwood, Ozzy was better with Randy Rhoads, and VH was better with Double D.

  • leuk!!!!!

  • More proof that Ed is the king. STILL, why do cameramen always have to pan to the drums, bass, or singer when a guitar player is taking a solo (and in this case, ripping heads off)?!!!

  • Dave being drunk and not being able to hold a note decently, takes away a lot from the experience for me. Respect for one's audience can never be overstated.

  • @Ahriman75 So many people are rinsing Dave for his singing, can't you see he's dripping sweat from giving people the show of their lives. You try singing while doing that much exercise, for hours. I really like the way he sings this version anyway, its got way more laid-back attitude. He may not have had the greatest technical skill but he's totally unique and awesome. Btw 2.03 is how a genius says 'yeah, thats right, you just heard my solo'

  • @AlexanderTaz : Could not agree with you more. Funny how we never heard anyone back in the early 80's say they were disapointed after seeing VH in concert but today it's a different story from the haters that claim to have been there.

  • @AlexanderTaz

Man, true Van Halen fans took Dave for what he was in concert. I didn't care if he sang every note perfectly, like he did on the records. Whether he sang every word or not was of little consequence for me, because back in the day, I knew I watching the greatest frontman in rock history. Seems that people can't deal with truth. Oh well, I can't help people's ignorance. Dave ruled in the day — and still does. End of story.

  • I was at the Cow Palace on Alex Van Halen's Birthday up front in 1984 I had a half a joint and some Biker Dude had some whiskey so we made a deal and the second song in the show got alot better real quick!!! Long Live Van Halen Fans !!!

  • why did they
