@Mistophoenix That was pretty much the first thing I noticed when I first saw this movie. It was kind of embarrassing, considering none of my friends had ever seen Newsies, and I was totally freaking out.
I wouldn't mind takin' a bit out of that tahmaytah....I'm hep!
I LOVE this movie. When my friends ask to watch it, I tell them I'm watching it in my head right now. And when you don't want to watch the whole movie, the next button on your DVD player switches to a song scene! Handy!
@zooeyhall Herry J. Anslinger was Willian Randolph Hearsts chief crusader for the prohabition of hemp and pot in the 1920s ans 30s. He is chiefly way pot, a relitivly banien drug was made illiagel on the natinal lavel.
Hearst wanted hemp production curtailed becouse he was heavely invested in wood pulp paper production. Hemp paper was the compatision he needed eliminating, and outlawing pot was the way to do it.
@zooeyhall Harry J. Anslinger, first commissioner of the Federal Bureau of Narcotics... he was the country's first "Drug Czar". He was responsible on the federal level for getting marijuana made illegal (he needed an "enemy" to establish his position and the newly created office, and marijuana was an easy target at the time). He is the guy that started the "War on Drugs"... along with William Hearst and others.
"Jimmy ! Did you hear the announcement at school today ? Next week President Roosevelt's coming to town !" "WOW ! You know, my Pop says he's a labra appeasing supreme court packing Bolshevik !"
Bananaskittles- Really? How old are you that you don't know what a 5 and dime is? It was a type of convience store like Woolworth's. They had sandwich counters and diners in them.
@titiego, I would say that this would be jazz, but a latin jazz. :) Hope that helps. You can find information on it anywhere, my favorite latin jazz musician would probably be arturo sandoval with his awesome trumpet skills, you should look into him :)
Noticed it says "Harry J. Anslinger" on the high school. Is there some sort of "inside" joke here?

I noticed the sign on the high school is "Harry J. Anslinger High School". Is there some sort of double-meaning/implication intended here?

@zooeyhall I think he made pot illegal
