  • Seek and ye shall find on you tube and Kudos to Vivian, who without, would keep me floundering to preserve a news paper. What i really got from her expression was ; The benefit of being respected far out weighs a satisfaction of being liked. she is matter of fact with power. After watching, I realized, I didn't get schooled by Vivian,, I got Educated. and that's priceless. She reminds me of my 4th grade science teacher, Mrs. Donnelly.

  • nice video...i have been doing this process and wondering what you do to secure the extra mylar folder over the back. Do you use just regular cellophane tape or is it better to use a acid free tape. Does that even matter since its not touching the actual paper......i can't find info on permeability on whether the tape could permeate the mylar. thanks for any help.

  • great work!! just wondering if the aerosol spray is the same as what artists use?

  • The items you use in this video, what is the amount you're going to have to spend? and if they are a bit pricey, what cheaper but effective products would you recommend?

  • Fantastic video and answered key questions on newspaper preservation -- a long time hobby! Any suggestions for an on-line store or other resource for good mat board and the Mylar sleeve? There are a number of Archiving websites/on-line stores, but hard to tell who is legit and offers the best products. Thanks!

  • yes, as long as it is paper --early 1800's? it would be a quality paper made of cotton.

    Don't put it on photos.

  • Have spent days researching how to preserve newspapers and this is the best I've seen.

Vivian, thank you. Also, a few questions.

I wanted to know if anyone has used the Krylon Acid-free aerosol spray instead of the Archival Mist? Any advice would be appreciated. Also, how thick should the mat board for placement in center of newspaper? Is it necessary to seal Melinex bags with tape? And lastly, is an archival box necessary if already placed in Melinex L sleeve? Thanks a million for any help!

  • Krylon would be fine.

    Regular thickness (14ply) matboard

    No tape.

No but keeping it out the light would be better than not.

  • Thank you for your speedy response. I can't imagine how busy an expert such as you is, and your taking the time is greatly appreciated.

  • Thanks for the great information.

  • Nice info!

If you are in Richmond, VA and need help with your newspaper let me know!

  • hey aunt vivian its donna!!!

kewl video congrats!! ill make sure my dad does it auntie M can help me!!

  • This is very good information to keep something safer until you get to your local custom frame shop to have it framed. How many people put their special mementos in the bottom of a drawer or in a cardboard box until later and they end up getting damaged.
