strykers are easy to drive, like a big truck, just when you get used to it then they put the slat armor on, or the cage, your not used to having 2 extra feet on both the sides. drives like a dream
@krashdown102 yeah they'll be farting alright from the greasy anal action, but dont ask or tell about the jism dripping down ASS of the blue denim policeman like trouser pants of the driver
Too bad vehicles like that were designed for Iraq. We kept making them bigger and bigger. And now, in Afghanistan, the roads are to steep, and often to narrow for these behemoths. What good is an up armored vehicle when your going to spend 90% of your time dismounted anyways? These did great in Iraq, but now we need to invest more money away from these bulky ground vehicles and start providing more air support in Afghanistan. Because knowing you have an Apache overhead is always reassuring.
My brother in law served as Captain 1st Stryker Brigade two years ago for two years. Oh the stories he can tell from riding around that thing.
Now he designs them, and good thing he does, cause otherwise they'd have square headlights. Way to make us obvious since all the Iraqi cars have circle headlights...
@Bzgurl85 I'd say pretty well. If they offered you a postion in the 56th their scheduled to depoly in next spring so if you wanna get deployed soon and your in the PA national guard I would say go for it.
I don't know about that specialist but we just started training with our strykers two weeks ago and it is so easy to drive and maneuver. This vehicle is a blast to drive. we have had no problem getting it in and out of tight spaces. we all trust this vehicle completely.
Fyi, (& not to snark on you or anything) the word you were looking for in you vid title was "Mettle", not "Metal"; they sound exactly the same but they're spelled differently. Unless, of course, you were going for a pun on "metal" b/c they Stryker's made of metal -- yeah, that's probably what you were going for!! :)
according to my memory it's an rpg cage. it's designed to catch rocket propelled gernades and detonate them before the gernade actually hits the vehicle.
@alexseyev here's a question for ya. an RPG detonating a foot away from the vehicle compared to on the surface of the vehicle makes a substantial difference in how much damage the vehicle takes? fascinating.
@donluchitti the explosion is not coming in contact with the vehicle thus reducing the effect by a large amount. impacting with an explosive is far more effective than just the explosive itself.
Wow, look at that canopy on the Stryker at 1:05! This urban fighting trend has developed some really interesting oddballs. Function over form, if it works then use them!

@cory2146 the metal grating around the exterior is specifically built and designed to combat the rpg round. it is very cheap and effective
