it's actually pretty good, you can hear his voice more clearly in this version. In the final DVD it's a bit messed up because the bass is there too.

This is taken from Demo version though, I wonder if he intended it or they dubbed his voice...

@PahangDragonbird are you saying it's playback? I actually thought he sang it live... it does sound a lot like Mike back in 1982 and the singing is close to original. I thought that maybe he had a lot of time to rest his voice, because he didn't have concerts for ages. After listening to it again, it seems he only sings the ending. It's hard to decide because it definitely isn't the original, it may be a demo which I haven't heard, or it could have been edited and dubbed.

I think it's possible he played back during rehearsals and was to sing it live in the final version. This sounds identical to the demo version of Billie Jean, only the pitch corrected. Kenny Ortega says that MJ didn't always sing as good because he was rebuilding his voice. At the end MJ says "at least we got a feel of it." They edited Earth Song too with the falsetto ending from the demo "What About Us."

@OfficialLegendOfMJ I was also wondering why he used demo for Earth Song. He has never sung it live and I doubt he would've sung it out this time in This Is It. There are bits which by the looks of it and by the sound sounds like he was actually singing in rehearsal, but some bits came from tape. Maybe he sung the falsetto himself, to preserve his voice? Either that or it was dubbed, because there is no point in using the demo tape (unless he planned to perform the demo version, very unlikely).

@OfficialLegendOfMJ Also, MJ stopped singing Billie Jean live after the Dangerous Tour. I think if he lipsynched in rehearsals, he would've done that in the real concerts also. During Dangerous Tour rehearsals he sang everything out, even the songs he wasn't supposed to. I'm sure he sang WBSS, J5 Medley, Human Nature, IJCSLY, Beat It and Black or White live. Although he has never sung BoW out, so we are left clueless on how MJ was planning to sing :( All we can do is speculate.

@manpildo Kenny and the crew dubbed the This is it version of billie jean. I dont exactly know why, but i think it had something to do with Michaels singing, it wasnt loud, or clear enough to be released to the public. Kenny also dubbed most of the songs from This is it ,which was very dissapointing. Billie jean, Thriller, The way you make me feel, Man in the mirror, Smooth criminal and Jam. It all on Wikipedia. But Michaels ad libs was totally live.
