the easiest ones to use are the open screw type where the wire enters the side of the barrel and you just tight it down, almost like he did with the first half but not adding the top piece to it. these are best for beginners.
those are different plugs he is using, the ones i use are closed screw type that do look like a banana that is peeled at the seems but not top and bottom. when using closed screw you do not twist the wire because after you feed it through like he did you have to fray the wire on the edges about 1/8 of an inch and then twist the top piece over the barrel.
I also have the same Question that another person asked.
What Gauge is the Wire you used or best used for a 7.1 Surround A/V Receiver that has a max output of 110 Watts Per Channel and have a speaker set that can max to 110watts per speaker also.
Going to be Upgrading my AV Receiver here soon with my taxes ;)
@skaterricky unless any of your speakers are 48 feet away from the amp, 16 gauge is more than all you need, Anythlng larger is overkill. And don't get fooled by any hype. Home Depot or Walmart is your best place to buy.
Really good video and handy as a tutorial, really helped me in improving my connections, cheers for that.
Having said that, the red positive plug you made looks poorly terminated - a bit of the copper can still be seen as you plug it into the receiver.
I've found that inserting it all the way and screwing at the same time can be difficult, after I've just fitted 12 of these plugs, but with a bit of practice, they look almost perfect.
So you connect the 2 banana plugs into the back of a speaker... Do you cut off the whole wire and do the same thing in the other end and then connect the other 2 banana plugs into the receiver ? And do u have to buy 20 banan plugs for 5.0 sound ?
Great tutorial, helped a LOT! I have a question though: with banana plugs, can you hook up your amplifier (rangent AMP-30) to a 5.1 speaker system, or do they only support 2.1?
wow. those 2 people that disliked this video should kill themselves now.
I haven't got a slightest clue on how to terminate cables to banana plugs when i got my new PSB passive bookshelves. But this video really helped me, and a noob like myself managed to do it within 1 hour.
Terrific video and installation guide. I do wish these guys did more audio guides.
@IronJerommeke I don't get ya... I was commenting on the flex on the amp backplate, shit moves like 3-4mm when he plugs the cables in, it's like he had it apart and left a few screws out .....
Tip: Wash your hands before touching any copper...
Or better yet wear dental gloves.
The oil of your skin will corrode the shit out of bare copper, Not that it will make a difference, But fresh shiny copper is way more conductive than tarnished copper.
The copper will oxidize over time anyway, so you might not want to bother lol.
My amp has binding posts on it - what I have now is just the unscrewed post and the wire slipped in and tightened down. I didnt give a second thought to the little plastic cap end covering up the handy banana plug socket - i just noticed today and feel like an ass.
I perfeer some miller and kriesel bower and wilkins also for home theater use im looking into klipsches new palladium set with a nice shu research subwoofer :)
wish i could hear what he said... damn bananas won't fit
