the demons and wisard album, is for me the same as a bible for a cristian............it`s fabulous music, make me happy listen to music of Uriah Heep..........so sad David and Gary isn`t here anymore they was amazing musicans
Sorry if I wasn't clear. I was merely commenting that there are two voices in this song, and that Ken Hensley is singing the voice in the left speaker. I didn't mean to imply anything else. I know the "experts" are not very fond of David Byron, but I think he was the perfect vocalist for Uriah Heep, and I understand he was a great showman, though I didn't live to see him on stage. (Technically speaking Lawton was in a higher division, but he was not right for UH and not a great showman.
@33COOLMAN33 His name is Gary Thain, and I agree. He's probably the best bassist in the world, as one beer brand would put it. :-) Overall, the members of Uriah Heep are probably the most underrated musicians of all times. I mean, Ken Hensley, Gary Thain, Lee Kerslake, John Lawton, John Sloman and Trevor Bolder are/were all really great musicians fit for any top-ten-list.
@fbendz I wouldn't say he's best for his capabilities, as for his music, that's a very unstable thing to make claims on, being all subjective and whatnot.
a room at my friend's house - blacklights in a 3-way socket illuminating a glow-in-the-dark fuzzy Bruce Lee poster -- sharing a bong with a pretty blonde w/ beautiful straight hair -- first time i really got a good listen to this tune, and it always takes me back -- can't bring those days back, but the music lives on...
As eternity seeps into the backbone of night,i was in slumber till a sound haunted my very soul, this song haunts me and in it is like a Homeric splendour,In blind Homer you see truth,God bless Uriah Heep in it I see truth once again.
When I was 15 my "first love" always said that if I would ever give up my underwear that He would put me in Paradise. This album is very special to me. But all that aside what a great band
I was in this bar with fellow band members bookin a gig ,in walks this band from NY .I went back to see them..first time I saw makeup and the wild outfits...they did the wizard then into paradise then into the spell. and it was spot on!!.. their last song w/only black lights on , 1 of them broke lite sticks and threw the innards at the others, whole stage glowed with splashing green. while 6ft rocket w/beacon in the nose came at them on a wire from across the room, flash pots fired @ arrival
The recording here is as well fashioned and pleasing to the ear as Dark Side of the Moon. I love the drums, the bass, the voices, the acoustic guitars, the whole thing.
This is a great album. Their best in my opinion. I have not heard this music in about 30 years. Shame on me. What memories it brings to me. Thanks for the post.
@Msdistarr They were definitely firing on "all cylinders" on this album, especially following up after "Look At Yourself", a great album in it's own right.
@TerryRF600 Don't know if you know, but if you download DVDVideosoft free software you can rip any of these vids. All you need then is a MP3 converter and Bingo!!!
@TerryRF600 led zep is great, but alot of bands got put on the burner for them. this band was amazing. i am 31, and this was my dads favorite band from that era. He has great taste in music, and he was the start of my musical roots. He has had a rough life, but he is a good man deep down. Wont ever forget the car rides just listening to this with him. =)
@equalmatter Do you listen to Nazareth at all. They were good friend with Uriah Heep and toured with them many times. I think even this last tour where they had both released new albums Uriah Heep with "Into The Wild" and Nazareth with "Big Dogz". I think in this tour that is happening at the present they are touring together.
Just played this song today for the first time in a while. Great music from this underrated band. These guys were really good. I have all of their albums up to the mid 70's
Yo..g74..Thanks for the comment...nice to know there's folks out there that can appreciate the "classics". Happy 2010. May it be grand to you all. Party on Wayne.
i hear ya...me too, it's been awhile all of Uriah Heeps music is very good. let someone just try and hit the notes he does ~Byron i do think his name is~

Man! A great frigging song !!
... still almost ruined by Byron's common overuse of the vibrato.
... and the phaser in the end is totally off.

Just exactly when is the Widard's Birthday? I only ask so that we may celebrate it with a great outpouring of Uriah Heep fandom.

@berylman - When exactly is the Wizard's Birthday? Well, Ritchie Blackmore's birthday is on 14 April.

Uriah Heep with Byron is just as important as Black Sabbath with Ozzy. This band is one of the best bands of all time.
Im so glad i have the chance to at least hear the amazing creativity that this band had in the 70's. Wish i could see them live with Byron!
