Proud to be canadian, but i don't think this interviewer can say were doing more than everyone else(I know canada does alot over there, especially in the south) but i'm sure every country over there pulls it's weight and does the best it can with what it has. Also, just my opinion but it does seem like the interviewer is slightly trying to down play the conflict in Afghanistan.

Speaking as a former Canadian Soldier who has been to Afghanistan, I can say that the Americans are there just as much as we are, and are taking hits like we are. However, I don't like this interview or interviewer who seems like he's trying to downplay our role by saying it's not a war, or asking if we think it's a war. Asking the guy at the end if it's a war because he's not been in combat yet. This reporter shouldn't be allowed back there. Canada's not there to be criticized.

I myself may be joining the Canadian armed forces in the near future.

If the comments below are true about how the americans are not active, then Canadians should not be over there. 3 times have the canadians helped there fellow americans. meleszen... your dumb. the yanks have a combat outpost up north that has been in contact for the better part of a year....contact=bullets and bombs if your wondering moron
These soldiers are so much better then the americans who sit on the north of the country which has no problems and lets other countries deal with the volatile south and mean while they say were the best and we can win this war when they are doing shit
The US forces are stationed all over Afghanistan including 2 Battalions of Infantry in Kandahar Province. Just last month we handed over half of the Province to the US Forces, while we still have the most populous districts they have the more remote areas.
I am so proud of you guys, you are heroes and we love and appreciate you back in tdot and throughout the True North Strong and Free! Things are not going very well for NATO and it looks as if the "Handful of RAG HEADED SCUMBAGS and DETESTABLE MURDERERS" are winning.......But how? they have nothing except the support of the local peasants.
Headline today 16 July 09 :The security situation in much of Afghanistan, which has already deteriorated significantly from previous years, may likely get even worse over the next month, as the country prepares for Presidential elections on August 20...
The reporter seem to have a hard time to understand that the so called low intensity wars are still wars even though they are diferrent in nature from first or second ww battlles between regular armies.
May 1 2009 "Mullen had come to Afghanistan for the second time in the past month for a closer look at a war that President Obama has vowed to set on a new course. The admiral found a war effort still hampered by a shortage of civilian and military reconstruction experts, an Afghan government that barely exists beyond the capital and a U.S. military command that knows it must work hard to overcome the mistrust caused by years of aerial bombings and house-to-house raids".... A NO WIN WAR!
AF2Fight2 why else would they go into Afganistan who wants to fight over dead land for nothing theirs no oil, it was always a haven for teroisum, just noone gave a shit tell 911.
Im not a US supporter and I don't believe what they stand for, but I still believe that US has the most advance MILITARY technology in the world. Other country may claim they are powerful and they have the best weapon in the world, but let' see. Im just waiting for those country to mess with USA and you'll see what secret weapons they have developed for the past 40 yrs... One more thing I am a proud CANADIAN. We maybe a strong or weak country but I am proud to be CANADIAN...

The only people who hate what Canadian/NATO troops are doing in Afghanistan are bearded boyfucker Talibs, Salafi subversives, Jerk bin Layton and NAMBLA.
Salafism/Wahhabism is a threat to the World. It must be struck from the earth, like the Thugee cult and Aum Shinrikyo. We've allowed the the Salafi Imams (Mohammed Elmasry, Syeed Sohawarty, Aly Hindy, &c.) into Canada--we should deport them all. Also, expell islamist students from universities (where they can access pathogens in biology labs).
If you want to talk about facts then the fact is that the US government is the largest terror organization in this world ans that's that. Dare to deny it, just spend 5 minutes on Google and there you go.
I watch British Empire in colour on History Channel & it amazing at the out break of WW2 Canadian Soldiers complained & blame Britian for fighting their Un-necessary War
How times have change
Now they promote anything Britian push for War
In WW2 they blame the British
Today they clear them of any Terrorist connection or even betraying the Commonwealth
As Lyndon Larouche pointed out the UK is the Biggest Terrorist outpost in the West where they are trained & used for their Intelligence service against the West & for Russia
It dosnt matter what side they are trained in London & on 60 Minutes Program they had the French Ambassador going to London to complain about the fact they are not doing anything to stop them being protected under UK Law

30 Canadians deaths and worldwide past attacks is a POOR EXCUSE for this crap.
This is not a majority, US was attacked for supporting Israel, they have NO INTEREST IN CANADA, but with Harper in charge, i can see why they might now.
Harper does not speak for all Canadians, Afghanistan is NOT our issue, the US has made it our issue, ppl die every day like that worldwide (ie Israel attacks on Gaza)
US should pay attn when other countries say theyr serious about something and warn them.
ANd the higher up the order comes from alot more manuverability there is. Ex. PM orders us to go to war and set up a base in the capitol. ALot of ways we could fight the war or A general making an operation usually for each divison they plan out there own strategies for the attack, the higher ups just create the objectives and outline of the battle ect. In a war we dont know what the leaders want we can only try and win and keep casualties low while local aid up.
I know and understand all of that, and I hope to participate in it one day.
My beef is where Stephen Harper and/or Obama decides the next war should be.
I notice it's always in a place that is profitable to oil and gas companies.
For example, why isn't Canada deploying a peacekeeping operation in Darfur, the DRC, or other places where civilians are being raped and killed by rag-tag rebel armies?
I cant answer tht question no soldier can. We are given a mission and we just try our best to succeed and help the locals. Better question is why hasnt the UN started a peacekeeping mission there cause if they did canada would go we always have :)
Jamaica? I havent heard of them being there, but if they are they are most likely in the northern regions so tht would explain me not hearing about them lol
Darfur: Because the Sudanese won't allow a UN force on Sudanese soil. Otherwise there'd be one in Sudan long, long ago.
DRC: Canada is seriously considering deploying to the Congo after Afghanistan. Deploying to the Congo while in Afghanistan would be too straining on Canadian resources. As a result, both missions would suffer, considering Canada's other commitments worldwide, including Haiti and others.
Ok, the journalist said at 1:15 "a few hundred Canadians have already died." Actually, it's just over hundred. Secondly, Denmark has suffered the heaviest relative casualty rate out of the NATO nations. Almost 30 for a nation of 5 million.
Per capita Canada has lost the most. (casualties vs number of deployed troops) If you are a canadian soldier you have the greatest risk of dying then any other NATO nation
You're right that Canada has suffered a higher % of the total troops they have in A-stan but Denmark has suffered the highest in relation to their population. Still, the argument is splitting hairs. The fewer the deaths the better but unfortunately that isn't the case in war.
But Canada isn't peacekeeping in this case. It's engaging in combat. Something Canadians haven't really (officially) done since the Korean War and WWII.
P.S just so everyone knows dont say casualties when refering to the fallen say fatalites (casualties includes all the wounded too and we dont know those numbers)

Great quality visually but the sound is way low. Sorry, but as a Canadian, I am shamed by our Harper war oriented government. We used to be the peace makers. Things have changed much to the worse.
Wasn't the Conservatives who pledged Canada's involvement in the first place.
This is a NATO mission. Canada is a NATO member. I figure its about damned time Canada stepped back onto the world stage and hefted its share of the burden. Good job boys, keep up the hard work, and the free-thinking nation of Afghanistan will thank you for your sacrifices 30 years down the road.
We are peace keepers, we never stopped. The focus is now on the NATO war. At least with Harper the military gets the funding it needs to properly equip the soldiers
You're wrong. We were NEVER peace keepers. We were always soldiers and proud ones at that. It's only the liberals who think peacekeeping works but look at Rwanda, Bosnia, Somalia, etc.
We were soldiers yes, but you can be a soldier and a peace keeper. Soldier is best suited to for they want peace the most. Weve been on over 50 peace keeping missions and most of them succeeded. Do not try to tell me we werent peace keepers for we were and still are. P.S me and my family all serve the military so i do know what im talking about :)
Just because you and your family serve in the military (which means you're bound to the orders given to you by your commanders and thus the civillian leadership), doesn't mean you know exactly what that civillian leadership really wants you to do. What would happen if you question (but not disobey) your orders - including the orders your commanders/political leaders are being given?
I want to join the military too, but for nobel causes. Not bu
You are right we do have to do what we are ordered but i really dont see how your comment applies to peace keeping missions? When i said i have family in the military i was implying that i know what missions we go on and what we do. As long as you follow your orders and dont disrupt the chain of command you will be fine. People question orders but as long as they follow the chain of command (and dont have an ass leading them) nuthin bad happens.
In the officer corps we are told to question orders so as to make sure the mission goes off without a hitch. Even if they were from generals ect soldiers will question these orders and decisions. It always happens, as long as the soldier doesnt commit mutiny or desertion the worst th could happen is a stern talking to lol. P.S political leaders tell us where and when to fight not how to fight the battle so we rarely ever get orders from them
Peacekeeping mission is an oxymoron. How can you keep the peace where there is none? Our lads are soldiers.
Sure, you can send them on some political Utopian feel good mission having them watch while innocent people get butchered or you can send them in to get the job done the way they were trained to do it - by neutralizing the enemy.
US soldier get sent to areas to stop them from turning into full scale wars, by keeping both sides happy and staying between the two. Most the time we succeed and keep any deaths from happening. If we attacked it would cause anger and warfare the exact opposite of what we want. Soldiers are trained to fight and protect. When we are sent on peacekeeping missions, we dont fight but we protect the local citizens
Only REAL U.N. countries are willing to help others, the little guys, like Canada, Germany, France, and the U.K., sure we can't fight China or the US, but we sure help more than them!
Maybe this journalist needs to step out the safe zone and experience a taliban fire-fight and then decide for himself if this is a real war or not! What a disrespectful question to keep asking the troops!
MADINA2U, you think the Taliban will let us build school for girls, hospitals, streets, irrigation canals... in peace. Get real, we have to fight them first and then , only then, we can rebuild.
Canadians go there because we still believe in certains ideals like human rights and in certain duty within the UN reslution. Nobody go there for Bush. Canadians didn't go to Iraq for your information.
FYI, Canadian COMBAT TROOPS didn't go to Iraq, but we did send supply and hospital ships to the Gulf Coast in order to supplement the U.S. Forces. One way or another, we're America's bitch.
Also, if Canada WAS rebuilding Afghanistan, their people would be building IEDs and ambushing any foreign troops on their soil.
Yes canadian troops have been there. During the inital assualt JTF2 was there and many canadians are there on exchange programs. Canada is trying to rebuid afganastan. They got a entire unit dedicated to it the PRT. (provincal reconstruction team) May i ask how are we America's bitch?
Later they have Lt-Col. Jamie Hammond rebut by saying that HE "would not accept that suggestion...".
However the bottom line is Liston was quoted as saying, "the Republican Party" and not the leadership of the United States. This should tell you that the Republicans have more clout in the U.S. and that we are, indeed, America's bitch.
Why aren't we in the DRC? Or Zimbabwe? Or Saudi Arabia?

The answer of the officer struck me, saying yes this is a Canadian war, because Canadians were inside the twin towers or somewhere else. ))Inside those towers were many other people from other nations as well, that doesn't mean all of them have to go to Afghanistan and participate in that war. Maybe Canadians should more focus on rebuilding that country rather than killing and being killed.

One thing I can't understand in this so called war. What is the goal? Why are these people risking their lives? If the enemy could, remotely be a kid on a motorbike what will you do? Shoot him just in case he has bombs? If he doesn't you've just killed an innocent kid, angering his family and neigbourhood, create resentments, in turn create more extremists.
Is it my feeling that this is a war with no speciific plan of action, no specific goal?

The Taliban were created from Refugee camps like the ones that were created for this war. Even if the intent of the war is good, Afghanistan is a tribal country. The British failed in the 1800's, the Russians failed in the 80's to contain them. When you hear people say they hate Americas freedom and way of life, that is true. They hate the freedom America has to cause wars and bomb them against UN law. I've no beef with the troops. But administrations are the real people to blame.
COLTAN is a material that is used in cell phones and Playstations. They're mined by people working for slave wages (sometimes not even wages), who are controlled by those rebels we hear about but do nothing to stop them.
It's all about MONEY and PROFITS.
Wake up man! We're all being enslaved by the rich, wealthy, and powerful.
cell phones and playstations. whats wrong with you. COLTAN is in every single electronic device computers TV's DVD players EVERYTHING cellphones and playstation sound like a article i read a while back saying that the playstation was responsible for slavery in congo or something LOL that made me laugh
I've always wanted to join the military and fight, but I started reading unbiased books and articles and started making my own opinions.
I still want to join the army, but the problem is that the civillian leadership is lying to us. They always have lied us. We need to change that.
Why aren't our troops going to the Congo to fight rebels who are raping and murdering children? Because those rebels are being supported by our companies that want those children to mine COLTAN.
All free thinking and democratic nations are in danger from bin ladens foot soldiers. So these brave canadian and british soldiers will do as we have always done now and times long ago, we will always try and help keep the world a safe and peaceful place for free speech and freedom of religion. EX british army of 23 years. F.A.B.
"Democratic nations" are actually capitalist nations that want to exploit the poor. The Cdn and Brit soldiers are being conned into "fighting" for their country.
In actuality they're fighting for rich, wealthy people who don't give a damn about the general population. They only care about their own power over us slaves.
Actually 4 ur info the rich wealthy ppl u r refering to 2528997 are those private companies who gain huge amts of profits out of this war . they r the actual ppl who control the entire country from the goverment to the local population and ultimately the entire country. Yes they do arrange for the assination of Good Prime ministers or presidents and ppl within the government WHO OPPOSE CORRUTPION

The 'war' in Afghanistan is about oil and natural gas reserves in the Caspian Sea. Unocal wanted to build a pipeline through Afghanistan. They negotiated WITH THE TALIBAN. The Taliban were greedy and Unocal didn't want to give in. THAT's why we went to Afghanistan. The U.S. pulled out when it was determined that the oil and gas wasn't profitable enough. Iraqi oil is better.

I dont see Canadian soldiers all I see are Canadian victims. This is an American WAR thats not even yet justified because till this day there is no proof who really did the attacks on 911. Besides russian bombed the shit out of chechnya... why dont we send troops there instead. This is rediculous but what ever Harper got in exchange of Canadian blood must be priceless. God bless Canada and May Allah get us out of this mess or we will naturally be attacked sooner or later.

The war in Aghanistan started 10/7/01. Less than a month after 9/11.
It takes months to move that many troops, ships and other military logistical operations half way around the world. The war was PLANNED several months in advance.
an inside job? wtc 7 was one of the safest buildings in new york. one part of the building, where some department had their offices, had its own air supply.
if you conspiracy the(rr)orists believe that it was an inside job, then show us the evidence for controlled demolitions. ever heard any controlled demolition? everyone in new york would hear very loud hundreds of bombs detonated in few seconds. this is what controlled demolition is. see for yourself, youtube has plenty of videos.

There is so much information which proves that 9/11 was an inside job. I'm not saying that Taliban are good ppl. They deserve to die. Americans and Canadians aren't bad people but we are the victim of our government.
tbf evidence could suggest that 911 and the rest of the bollocks was done y governments, but what have jews got to do wit it?
people are saying that the bombings in lodon were doe by mi5..
i still cant really see the motifs tho? i mean they can get more control over us, but whats that really acheive? and as far as i know afghanistan isnt as rich in oil as iraq is and iraq had nothing to do wit 911.

President Eisenhower built up American Superpower to stop all out Nuclear War not use it in Vietnam like LBJ
The brass then in 1953 wanted a end to the War in Korea & 80% were Conservative
By 1960 that drop to 45% while the other lot were Radical Fabian Socialist Communist & their hated of JFK not Disarming
By 1964 you had 80% Radical greater increase in CIA to get Gobal Warfare going
Back in 1956 Eisenhower would not have US engaged into the Middle East War Suez for UK

72Canadian72 3 years ago
I know and understand all of that, and I hope to participate in it one day.
My beef is where Stephen Harper and/or Obama decides the next war should be.
I notice it's always in a place that is profitable to oil and gas companies.
For example, why isn't Canada deploying a peacekeeping operation in Darfur, the DRC, or other places where civilians are being raped and killed by rag-tag rebel armies?
2528997 3 years ago
I cant answer tht question no soldier can. We are given a mission and we just try our best to succeed and help the locals. Better question is why hasnt the UN started a peacekeeping mission there cause if they did canada would go we always have :)

Jamaica? I havent heard of them being there, but if they are they are most likely in the northern regions so tht would explain me not hearing about them lol

@2528997
As a result, both missions would suffer, considering Canada's other commitments worldwide, including Haiti and others.
v3ntulus 1 year ago
Ok, the journalist said at 1:15 "a few hundred Canadians have already died." Actually, it's just over hundred. Secondly, Denmark has suffered the heaviest relative casualty rate out of the NATO nations. Almost 30 for a nation of 5 million.
thunderflash82 3 years ago
Per capita Canada has lost the most. (casualties vs number of deployed troops) If you are a canadian soldier you have the greatest risk of dying then any other NATO nation
72Canadian72 3 years ago
Canada - 2,800 troops, 107 KIA
Denmark - 750 troops, 23 KIA
You're right that Canada has suffered a higher % of the total troops they have in A-stan but Denmark has suffered the highest in relation to their population. Still, the argument is splitting hairs. The fewer the deaths the better but unfortunately that isn't the case in war.
thunderflash82 3 years ago
to true its best to avoid war whenever possible
72Canadian72 3 years ago
But Canada isn't peacekeeping in this case. It's engaging in combat. Something Canadians haven't really (officially) done since the Korean War and WWII.

72Canadian72 3 years ago
it just means that since 2006 Canada has gone back to its fighting ways
andrewd556 3 years ago
Actually, according to your numbers, the percentages are:
Canada - 3.8%
Denmark - 3.0%
2528997 3 years ago
That's in relation to the troops they have in A-stan. In relation to their populations Denmark has a slightly higher casualty rate.
thunderflash82 3 years ago
Ya in terms of pop. Denmark has higher
But in terms of troops deployed Canada has higher
P.S just so everyone knows dont say casualties when refering to the fallen say fatalites (casualties includes all the wounded too and we dont know those numbers)

We are peace keepers, we never stopped. The focus is now on the NATO war. At least with Harper the military gets the funding it needs to properly equip the soldiers
72Canadian72 3 years ago
You're wrong. We were NEVER peace keepers. We were always soldiers and proud ones at that. It's only the liberals who think peacekeeping works but look at Rwanda, Bosnia, Somalia, etc.
thunderflash82 3 years ago
We were soldiers yes, but you can be a soldier and a peace keeper. Soldier is best suited to for they want peace the most. Weve been on over 50 peace keeping missions and most of them succeeded. Do not try to tell me we werent peace keepers for we were and still are. P.S me and my family all serve the military so i do know what im talking about :)
72Canadian72 3 years ago
Just because you and your family serve in the military (which means you're bound to the orders given to you by your commanders and thus the civillian leadership), doesn't mean you know exactly what that civillian leadership really wants you to do. What would happen if you question (but not disobey) your orders - including the orders your commanders/political leaders are being given?
I want to join the military too, but for nobel causes. Not bu
2528997 3 years ago
Not business/capitalist prosperity for the civilian leadership.
2528997 3 years ago
You are right we do have to do what we are ordered but i really dont see how your comment applies to peace keeping missions? When i said i have family in the military i was implying that i know what missions we go on and what we do. As long as you follow your orders and dont disrupt the chain of command you will be fine. People question orders but as long as they follow the chain of command (and dont have an ass leading them) nuthin bad happens.
72Canadian72 3 years ago
In the officer corps we are told to question orders so as to make sure the mission goes off without a hitch. Even if they were from generals ect soldiers will question these orders and decisions. It always happens, as long as the soldier doesnt commit mutiny or desertion the worst th could happen is a stern talking to lol. P.S political leaders tell us where and when to fight not how to fight the battle so we rarely ever get orders from them
72Canadian72 3 years ago
Peacekeeping mission is an oxymoron. How can you keep the peace where there is none? Our lads are soldiers.
Sure, you can send them on some political Utopian feel good mission having them watch while innocent people get butchered or you can send them in to get the job done the way they were trained to do it - by neutralizing the enemy.
thunderflash82 3 years ago
US soldier get sent to areas to stop them from turning into full scale wars, by keeping both sides happy and staying between the two. Most the time we succeed and keep any deaths from happening. If we attacked it would cause anger and warfare the exact opposite of what we want. Soldiers are trained to fight and protect. When we are sent on peacekeeping missions, we dont fight but we protect the local citizens

"The main reason that we're doing this is, uh, because that's what, uh, the Republican Party in the United States wants."
- Major-General Terry Liston (Ret'd), Canadian Forces

Later they have Lt-Col. Jamie Hammond rebut by saying that HE "would not accept that suggestion...".
However the bottom line is Liston was quoted as saying, "the Republican Party" and not the leadership of the United States. This should tell you that the Republicans have more clout in the U.S. and that we are, indeed, America's bitch.

There actually WERE eyewitness accounts of SEVERAL EXPLOSIONS in WTC 1&2 after aircraft impact and before building collapse.
Marvin Bush on the board of directors for the security companies that were employed at one of the airports - where one of hijacked flights originated - and at WTC 1 & 2.
8 mile wide debris field of Flight 93.
Do you think these are coincidences? Lies?
Research it.

"if you don't support the mission, you don't support the troops" Is that what your drill sergent tells you?
Someone mentioned jews in previous posts. Partially true.
The Israel Lobby controls a large amount of America's congress. America controls Canada, and Canadian soldiers had to be sent to backup American interests.
Sad but true.
If our troops havn't trained Afghani replacements by now, they never will. Local Afghani police departments must be made, so the boys can come back home.

There is so much information which proves that 9/11 was an inside job. I'm not saying that Taliban are good ppl. They deserve to die. Americans and Canadians aren't bad people but we are the victim of our government.

dude, a jew job? wtf :S
tbf evidence could suggest that 911 and the rest of the bollocks was done y governments, but what have jews got to do wit it?
people are saying that the bombings in lodon were doe by mi5..
i still cant really see the motifs tho? i mean they can get more control over us, but whats that really acheive? and as far as i know afghanistan isnt as rich in oil as iraq is and iraq had nothing to do wit 911.
