@DanteMelancholia i reckon they've added some more elements here, there are definitely new influences. Melodic death metal exists for a couple of decades, this sounds a bit different doesn't it?
Awesome band. Just stumbled across them as I really love Insomnium's Music and I had to order this album right away after listening to this song. The keyboards fit really well and kind of remind me of the old PC Demo music scene.
Saw these guys @ Neckbreaker's Ball. Better than all the other support bands, Gurd, Varg and Mercenary wren't bad, but this band was really a surprise.
When you think of it, this album is one of the rare mutations of melodeath, or any metal genre in general, that makes you want to sit back and reflect on yourself.
Opeth and Dark Tranquillity can be said as pioneers of this kind of theme. Many bands try but risk their albums sounding repetitive and boring, but OG pulls it out remarkably well.
@DeftCrowMk3 wouldn't really say Opeth, they're so different...I need to check out this band's other albums, only discovered them today, but see what you mean about decent melodic death metal, like this, DT and In Flames reroute to remain for example...
Imo the contrast is what makes it so fucking beautiful!! However like you I do wish there was a clean vocalist for chorus' and stuff more often like in Soul journey's and a few other tracks.
@LedSatriani I disagree, it'd be bland if the voice followed the melody that the guitar is making. Hence, why melodic death metal is such an interesting genre.
Sure, you could change the guitar voice to the singing voice, and make a trendy riff to support it. But that would be pretty much what everyone else has been doing for years and years.
i love this but why cant the keyboards be guitars instead...that cheap tone of the keyboards just isnt appealing...i dont know keyboards seem to make songs appear more fake for me...i just love guitars too much
@SketchPanda I know! How ironic that after my post, a member of Omnium Gatherum begins work with Insomnium! I anticipate the sound of Insomnium with the addition of Markus Vanhala.
The -only- thing I cannot enjoy with this song is the growl/grunt. I normally like growl/grunt alot and are growling myself, but this sounds a bit too 'sloppery' for my liking. Damn... way too used to Mikael Åkerfeldt's vocals.
The first album I listened from these guys was the Redshift. Then I went backwards listening to their older albums but they weren't as memorable as the Redshift. Listening to the melodies in this song though I can tell I'm going to like this album.
@Ikamatsav For you I recommend checking out a band called Radiance. Mats Levin on vocals, but the mastermind behind the sound is actually lead guitarist Sami Raatikainen of Necrophagist. Basically progressive death metal instrumentals, with amazing clean vocals. The album is called The Burning Sun.
@Nokturne999 Thanks man, so far the stuff I've listened to by Radiance [Fin] is to my liking. Will probably buy the album online via music.radiance.fi tomorrow.
I do like growls... I just can't get my ear around his vocals. They sound cartoony and a bit forced for my liking. Lacking a certain conviction and emotion and technique. But maybe that's just me.
@iron77mike77 To be honest, I could probably learn to love Melo death for it's music while not liking the growl's/screams some bands do. But I personally love them, it make's it that much better for me. Guess some people just not open minded enough to see it.
his voice live is good, too but i mean the whole way of performing. dont get me wrong their songs are awesome and their playing perfectly live but its my opinion that the vocalists way of performing live (in general not in singing)...isnt that good.
Wow, this song is fucking amazing. I mean, wow!! Never heard of them before tonight and I saw a youtube vid where ppl were like 'Listen to Omnium Gatherum - World Shadow it will change your life' man... wow simply amazing!!
@Valaman I lost track of these guys afther their first cd, didn't like what came after that, but I think you should check out their first record, check out their song Son's Thoughts....
@Finq08 I'm not saying it's life changingly good, others said it would change my life... it didn't but it's still an amazing song. Tool... they're a tool of a band. They're terrible.
this band was already awesome and now Dan Swano is helping them!?.. so awesome.. epic harmony with the guitar and keyboard lead.. Swano's clean vocals take this song over the top
@meowmastr123 I don't know that much haha, but like this stuff this guy post, most of them are really awesome, and come out in 2011;). I recommend you that you should watch sites of this kind of types metal.com
