@fromthelandofuruk He probably realizes taht in his youth he may have been wrong about a few things. He probably read what the Bible really says about Jesus instead of listening to others, news, media, churches, preachers, etc.
I've always loved The Verve and Richard so to hear him change this lyric is welcoming. God given voice indeed.
ugghh, I don't know why they didn't reform as a gospel group then, and not ruin the dark PSYCHEDELIC brand of their name. I suggest you watch Verve perform Slide Away in Camden in 1992 and Come On in Detroit in 1998 if you want to see them at their best.
I'm fully aware of both those vids, mate. I'm a huge Verve fan.
When I heard him sing it at Glasto '08, I was like "...woah, wait a tick. He changed the lyric" but I didn't really care. I understand your point though.
great version...with Rich theres always a reason...

i think the lyric change is brilliant.
most of the verve's music has a very spiritual meaning, vibe and power to it.
Ashcroft is a deeply spiritual man and he believes ( and has done throughout his life) in jesus.

He changed the lyric from "Jesus never saved me" to "Jesus gonna save you"???. Why???
fromthelandofuruk 2 years ago 3
He does that all the time, with alot of his songs. Including ''Love Is Noise'', ''Bitter Sweet Symphony'' and ''On Your Own''.

My point is, he fundamentally changed it, to have an opposite meaning. It ruins the spirit of the original.

I'm sure Richard had a reason for it.

Nah changing a line of lyrics isn't that big of a deal. His second solo album was what's "ruining the dark psychedelic brand".
