  • lovvvvvvv'

  • Magnificence--I love the brilliance in her voice, and appreciate the absence of heavy chesty vocal production. Her voice actually has the heft without having to beef it up in other ways. Fabulous!

  • not bad as i thought it was going to be....

  • I like how she forgets at 9:19 that for the recording take she sang all the notes before the coloratura to the high b ending the aria.

  • I think she is one of the best mezzo's over, but I really do not like her shrill, thinnish soprano high register. Gladly she left the soprano repertoire sooner than later, discovering that singing Abigail and Lady MacBeth did not do her voice any good. Listen to her studio recordings of Verdi soprano arias, It really is not good, flat and shrill. But as Amneris few will be her equal

  • I LOVE this! What a mezzo-soprano, -what a register, and what a technique! And it sounds and looks so effortless, yet knowing it's real hard work. Great!

  • Fiorenza Cossotto sei meravigliosaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Mi fai venire i brividi!!!!!!!

  • i like cossoto very much actually but i dont think this is for her...nice to listen to her doing it..but just for curiosity...

  • she always tended to act as a silent movie actress, and lyp-synching actually emphasizes that...

  • perfect!

  • And Corelli was really a bass-baritone.

Happy? Now we've both posted dubious opinions as though they were true. But guess what? That's not enough to make them true.

  • e tu vai a cagare

  • I invite all of you to see Cossotto on Tokyo last year...on Amneris...here in youtube and you will see her voice decadence...

  • Sorry, but don't you think you are being quite rude and unpleasant with Fiorenza Cossotto? Everyone can notice that you don't like her, but there is no need for you to bash her like this. She is not for everybody's taste and no one is forcing you to like her, but she had a great career, worked with the greatest conductors and singers and is recognized by many as one of the greatest mezzo-soprano of her generation and she deserves respect.

  • In the video that you mentioned (the Judgement Scene in Japan), Cossotto is 71 years old and it may not be her best performance and, yes, maybe she should have retired, but don't you think that classify it as "..he most shameful, awful, creepy and nasty play of all the opera history" is a bit to much? Opera history is full of great singers who didn't retire on right time, and in the other side, it shows their huge love for the stage.

  • There are singers who I personally don't like too, it's more than normal for it to happen, but never crossed my mind to talk about them like you are talking about Fiorenza, because it's not their fault that I don't like them, it's simply a matter of taste.

  • I am quite astonished at the vehemence!I have read your comments on her Japan concerts from last year. And I agree with you on one point : She is in vocal decline. But do not focus just on this aspect of her career look at the global career of one of the most outstanding mezzo's in the 20th Century. Ask any singer of respect today and they will attest to the greatnes of this womans art.More rationale and intellect and less vile would be better considered.

  • she is 72 yo in that video..i would sure like to see you do it at her age....even now you probably cant do anything opera related besides criticising great singers...

  • You think she's 72 in the video? I seriously doubt

    that...late 40's, early 50's maybe. The studio

album was recorded in 1976, Riccardo Muti

conducting. Personally, I like her performance

    here.

  • Andrecueca was talking about another video, the one from Tokyo where Cossotto is indeed 71/72 years old, not this one here.

  • Comment removed

  • The fans of Cossotto named her IL CANNONE becasue her voice power; cañon las pelotas!! siempre fue asopranda y de un timbre horrendo! Dove e IL CANNONE? Io ascolto soltanto uno piccolo pistoletto! hahaha

  • Putting aside the fact that you're behaving much like an internet troll, I have to say that's a most inane comment. This is not the Cossotto that became, as you say, IL CANNONE, for that you should see, say, her Azucena. This is Cossotto trying to sing outside her register - and she does it wonderfully, might I add. This is not THE Cossotto. Fancy you not knowing that, who you are so bent on defacing her image and career with flimsy arguments.

  • Ti piace la Cossotto?

I specially invite you to see her here in youtube: put in the search bar:

Fiorenza Cossotto "Ohime, morir mi sento" Part2

and will appear the most shameful, awful, creepy and nasty play of all the opera history...

  • i'm not sure i understand you...cosotto is probably the most famous amneris there is. she made a career on this role. are you saying its creepy and nasty?

  • I am a OperA vOCAL cOACH and I really think that Christa Ludwig's Lady Macbeth is much better than Cossotto's one...Ludwig is a mezzo-soprano two, but have more sharpness, more colour and more fullness of voice than Cossotto.I find Cossotto a voice without a REAL mezzo colour; not the dramatic colour of a Ludwig,Obraztsova,Nicolai,Elmo,Barbieri or Terentieva even.Even in Tebaldi´s Met Gioconda, Cossotto has less colour than Tebaldi itself! So,is Cossotto a true mezzo or is a soprano Manquée?

  • Cossotto soprano mancata ? Cretino! stronzo.

this is the most nonsense thing written in this website

  • why does one have to be better than the other,,,,and if you really do like christa "better" than it might be better to go to her video and compliment her there. i understand you do have right to an opinion but then i do too ....i'm tired of the bashing....cosotto is brilliant her and i;m sure ludwig is equally brilliant

  • Has anyone ever heard Cossotto in the sleepwalk scene?

  • A pity that she didn't try it on stage, live!

  • Very, very good, Fiorenza. Powerful and beuatiful. Che Lady di granbdezza!!!!!

  • She never performed the role on stage? What a shame! She storms through the coloratura after all those awkward leaps so easily

  • I have this performance on vinyl too. I seem to remember a lot of criticism of it, which still seems rather unfair...I find it most effective.

  • This is an extraordinary Lady on the league of Callas, Souliotis, Sass, and Dimitrova.

Only these five singers gave unique interpretations which imbued a menacing viciousness within the character that would ice the blood of anyone who would be foolhardy enough to attempt to get in their way.

Another stunning tour de force performance by Miss Cossotto.

  • AH! NOW, it makes sense to me. Hahaha, please!

  • It contents me to no end to enlighten nobodies about the art form which is opera.

  • add to the list Verrett and Bumbry.

  • Semplicemente divina! Il più grande messosoprano/soprano del mondo!

  • She spits out those Italian consonants like very few other Ladies.

  • I have the recording on disc, and I always wondered how it would seem on screen. It's beautiful! She could have been a great Lady Macbeth on stage.
