I am informed that music from Manfred's ECM LPs from this period will be compiled into 2 CDs. Details ECM 2093/4 Manfred Schoof Quintet "Resonance". Recordings 1976-79
Yeah For Marianne wasn't in the broadcast but I think (according to some records at NDR) it was actually in the original recording along with Resonance... just that when they edited for TV they took those tracks out,,,
Its a Yamaha YC-20 organ from around 1970. The characteristic sound is really the phaser... I think Alan Parsons may have been Solina Strings + phaser (maybe small stone phaser?)
This piece is one of my favourites of the Schoof Quintet. When I heard this first on Vinyl in the early 80s it changed my whole perception and understanding of music. Manfred Schoof has been major influence for me to the present day. Thanks for uploading this and the other clips.
Great! I only heard this for the first time when it was broadcast on the BR alpha channel and seeded at dime. Then I got the LPs... but like you say... life changing... I have been playing since 1985 and when I heard this track I felt another door open.. thats what it seems to be all about.. opening doors.
tried to get the concert from dimeadozen but it is full so i cant join any ideas where i can get to see yhe full concert i would like to burn one to dvd i have the three albums on japo if someone wants to swap the concert for some cdr,s
no problem... check those other Schoof videos too.. he was a new one on me until relatively recently. No idea how I missed out on him as I have been into this kind of stuff now for almost 20 years!
The LPs Scales and Light Lines are great and totally in this style and share the same personnel. There is a later LP with Rainer Bruninghaus on piano instead of Jasper, called Horizons which has a brilliant track called "Old Ballad" which is anything but... goes into a flat out amazing modern jazz piano solo from Rainer Bruninghaus...
This is from the album "Scales," which won the German jazz critics' prize in 1976 when it came out. It was released on JAPO, which was an imprint of ECM. One of these days, maybe ECM will reissue it. Thanks for posting!
Heard this track on SOMA FM and I bought the CD - BRILLIANT!!
