  • In response to Eyalbass, he used high output pickups into a moderately driven bass amp running with a number of horns in the cab, resulting in his rather unique raunchy tone. He often used a little chorus or flange, but the effect you are referring to is likely the Fernandes bass sustainer(like the guitar sustainer they make), as far as I know it it was a prototype and he had the only one, the little bass solo is running on the 5th harmonic mode.

  • One of the greatist bands of all time I remember seeing them in 2009 their second to last show greast show of my life. Rip Peter save me a seat when i get up their where gonna jam

  • What effects did he uses to have this bass sound?

  • On the album that kick ass amazing slow part is sung by Kenny. I love Peter to death but Kenny is better for that part. Whenever I saw them live Peter sings during that section. I guess Kenny can't sing that live.

  • playing this song on christmas, house is dark, freezing cold and we got the snow flake effect on youtube playing TON. couldnt ask for much more

  • Nice... I liked the "Auqualung" bass intro. Pete had soo many influences.

  • Pete's Bass chuggin in this song is awesome. The Bass makes this whole song.

  • I just ordered this dvd can't wait for it to come in the mail

  • "1.... 2 FUCK YOU"

  • dude i never realized how much they cut out of this concert on the dvd

  • ill never be able to here that pounding bass live :(

  • @FLD64 FROOSTAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Anyone else notice that Kenny's vocals get cut off in the live version... It all Peter here

  • @celticdruid3 Is that Hickey singing during the middle section of the studio version?

  • Comment removed

  • @Thetarantinomaniac yes it's Kenny singing that on the studio version

  • 100% classic song.

After all these years this is stil one of th ebest.

  • "Its too laaaaatttee! 1,2, fuck you!" \,,/

  • One two, fuck you~! Awesome! And to the dude who commented that they ripped off Aqualung at the beginning: There are actually rifts throughout the song. And considering what a great musician Peter was- it's more like a tribute to Jethro Tull. Think about it.

  • @bikerbonnieb OMG!! I feel the exact same way!!!! I feel like I'm in love with a dead man!♥

  • such a masterful performance, i like it better than the studio version as well. thanks for existing Peter

  • Did anyone notice the aqualung riff at the beginning?

  • One dark year later and we still miss you as much as the day we heard you passed Pete, thanks for everything brother, RIP.

  • I definitely prefer how the played this live, to the original studio version.

  • @TheCekoz666 Peter Steele died from heart failure NOT from an OD or HIV, he was clean and healthy for the 1st time in a long time, so it doesn't make sense to any REAL TON fan that he died... Grow up dude

  • @anniebabeblues And if you know that a friend of mine recently had a heart attack at 20, while sitting behind his desk at work... Kinda makes you think about how easy it can be to get a heart attack, even under absolute normal circumstances.

No drugs, no alcohol, no nothing, BAM, heart attack, reanimation, now he's in a coma...

  • @Hyshinara

sorry to hear that and 6 months ago i would have thought, "no way, not at 20". but recently at 30 i had a high blood pressure scare that hospitalized me for a few days; now, i can see how it can happen to anyone. doesnt matter what you do really.

peter was that way as well. amy winehouse's death gets called a tragedy, but everyone had to have seen that coming. peter died and no one saw that coming. that's what a tragedy is supposed to be. not the expected.

  • @UEC0101

Oh, yeah, I've got an update on my friend! HE LIVES! :D

    He's on a pacemaker, but he's doing fine :D

So apparently he initially kind of... DIED, got reanimated, went in that coma, got out of it and now lives on as if nothing happened during those 5 weeks... He's indestructible...

  • @anniebabeblues yes he was clean when he died, but the damage was done. Between Coke, alcohol and steroid abuse over the years, his cardiovascular system was wrecked. There was also an Anomaly in his heart that may have contributed to his death. you reap what you sow, it is sad but we all forge our own destiny as we go.

  • Just out of curiosity, does anyone know what Pete painted his fretboard with? I'm going to be getting a bass soon and plan on painting it the same way. I might even do it with my guitar too.

  • WHERE ARE THE FROST GIANTS I BEG FOR PROTECTION???

  • You have no idea of how much of a Type O negative fan I am, but I only love the middle part of this song, I mostly enjoy their doomier stuff! Same thing with Some stupid tomorrow and We hate everyone.

  • pete-steele r.i.p-see you in HeLL!!why he go?o.d or h.i.v

  • @TheCekoz666 Heart attack bro

  • do you know why this band never made it into the mainstream properly shit like linkin park korn etc.Because this bands image and lyrics were just to dark for the mainstream. But thats not saying there shit or anything they were an amazing band just sucks peter died if only they toured in australia.Probably last great/unique band we ll see in a long time.

  • "You probably noticed me playing bass one-handed there. Well, with a face as ugly as mine, you learn to do a lot of things one-handed..." - Peter Steele

  • @67675656565655656565 Who are you trying to convince? Me? My name is based on part of a Type O Negative song! Shit, even someone without extensive knowledge of Type O Negative and of Pete's glorious... er, uh, 'self-deprecating sense of humor', could just look at the video and see that he was joking. The man played up the whole brooding 'sex symbol' thing like a pro.

  • @PeriodicTableware yes and you wish you were that ugly i bet

  • @jefster1961 You mean if I were a man.

  • Aqualung!!!!!!

  • love the bloody kisses album

  • how can i get my bass to sound like that?

  • @JAVIER7864 what i found is if u have a rhythm guitar "over drive" pedal, it works ok...do u have a 4 or 5 string bass?

  • @Vagabond30 i actually dont own one at the moment but im looking forward to learning just to play type o songs.. just asking beforehand. lol

  • @JAVIER7864 Become a God.

  • @JAVIER7864 He uses a bass chorus and an overdrive pedal. His basses tend to be very specific hard to find models too, which probably contribute to the sound as well, but a Boss CEB-3 and Boss ODB-3 and any old 4-string tuned BEAD will sounded close enough.

  • IT'S TOOOO LAAAAAAAATEEEEE, TYPE O FOREVER

  • fuckin' hell, peter was so modest about his ability as a musician. he's was actually one of the best sounding bassists i've ever heard.

  • one two fuck you

  • peter

  • What are they shouting in the bridge? North Star?

  • @rednightmare123 FROZ-ONnnnnnnnnnnnn... I believe

  • @Psychowilly

haha listening again I think it's YOU SUCK around the 3.00 mark

  • @rednightmare123 i think it's either a latin or polish word, probably means frozen, too late, or no forgiveness.

  • @kent6667 it sounded like they were saying something like "Fushtah" in the studio recording

  • miss you Peter

  • Lovin' the vibrato

  • is the intro aqualung of am i just hearing things

  • @nickrulez809765 It surely Is...

  • @nickrulez809765 i think so. type o always would play intros to songs just to kind of fuck with people. there's a video on youtube of them playing i don't wanna be me and after the song they play a badass intro of black sabbath's lord of this world

  • it was kick ass when they used to turn on the snow machines during the middle part. huge flakes blowing all over the crowd

  • IM FREEEEEEEEEEEEEZZZZZZIIIIIIIINNNNNNNGGGGGG !!!!!!!!

  • I'm 40-years-old and I totally dismissed this band back in the 90's when they were in their prime...a mistake I thoroughly regret. I had the chance to see Alice in Chains back in 1993 in Seattle and turned the offer down..."Only fools make mistakes twice".

  • This is by far my favorite version of this song...I think Peter's singing is much more melodic and heartfelt than that of Kenny's version on the album. He sounds like he's really pleading.

  • @kmsmith1210 I actually didn't fully appreciate this song until I heard this version. I liked it a lot before, sure, but I just can't get enough of it now. It moved from one of my least favorite Type O songs to probably in my top five.

  • @PeriodicTableware A totally underrated band...too bad Steele's gone. I had the chance of seeing them live here in Dallas like 2-years ago or so and passed up the chance because it was on a week day, and had to get up early for work the next morning. Big regret.

  • @kmsmith1210 I know, terribly underrated. I've been listening to them for years, and they're actually my favorite band. I never really took seeing them live seriously because I just don't do concerts, and because I always thought I could, you know, see them some time in the future. Not anymore. I cried when he died.

  • @PeriodicTableware I didn't cry, but I was really disturbed by his death...Just like I was when Michael Jackson died (Yes, I have EXTREMELY diverse musical tastes!). Everytime a Gen X era musician dies, It's rough on me. Symbolizes the death of my youth I guess...they were the soundtracks throughout different times in my life. Jackson was there for me during the early 80's, and Type O' and Grunge was there during the 90's. 2009-10...bad years for many Gen X figure heads dying off YOUNG.

  • @kmsmith1210 This is actually the first time I've had to deal with losing a... well, an idol. These guys were there for me more than my family ever was. I don't know how long it will be before I'm actually over it, or if that's even possible.

  • @PeriodicTableware I don't know that you ever "get over it". Music is powerful, Type O's was and is so powerful because of the genuine emotion behind it. They aren't some artist to those who they moved. They fell more like friends than anything if that makes sense. I've found it to be true for myself that when you feel connected through music they feel like a part of you. Peter was an exceptional person, one I'm grateful for. Wishing you the best.

  • @Buckyfanatic It makes perfect sense. They've been with me longer than anyone else, and they had a huge influence on me growing up. I don't think I'd be the same person I am without their "support" and that connection.

I'm both overjoyed and saddened to find someone who feels the same way I do about Type O, because you feel the connection, but you also feel the loss.

  • Comment removed

  • @PeriodicTableware Music for me has been the medium in which I find balance in life. My memories have music attached to them instead of people. All I can say is don't let go of the connection, it's still as important today as it was when it started. I wish I could say I didn't feel the loss. It's been so hard these last few months, Pete had a big part in forming my love of music, like you I miss him dearly and constantly. I have lost a few hero's both musically and in my family. Hugs

  • anyone know if the album version is on here?

  • Is this from a dvd. If it is anyone know the name?

  • @xXWarPigs it is a dvd rip. i used to own the dvd sorry i dont remember the name.. but it does have 4 nuns on the front sportin shotguns. there dvds are the best buy them both if you can find them. there funny, theres music, theres music videos and its like a biography....and the commentary is hysterical!!

  • @morbidfuckinangel I own both of the Type O dvds, They are my favorites, i watch them when im stoned.

  • Would have liked to heard them do Aqualung

  • He was our Socrates, and our profit of doom LONG LIVE PETE RIP NEGATIVE FOREVER

  • \,,/

  • hail the frooooozzzzzeeeeeennnnnn mannn

  • What does Pete say between "In the shadow of the light from a black sun" and "Where are the frost giants I've begged for protection?" It doesn't sound like what is said on the album version and I can't for the life of me make it out.

  • @PeriodicTableware

he forgot the lyrics, nothing special ;-)

    improvisation rocks

  • @deafinit I realize that, but I was wondering if anyone could understand what he was saying here. I'm a freak about lyrics and my brain itches unless I know what's being said. Unfortunately for me, this is one of my favorite videos to watch on YouTube. :S

  • Comment removed

  • @Terryreno I guess you didn't realize that he was singing something different than usual when you made that post, huh?

  • @PeriodicTableware .................sorry, I guess I need my ears checked also.........thanks

  • rest in peace my friend

  • rest in peace my friend

  • Pay attention: Pete is playting Jethro Tull's Aqualung in the first seconds before playing the actual song. Simply great. I'll forever miss him

  • I like this version better then the album one!

  • TYPE 0 RULES!!!!

  • he was so freaking amazing

ge was my freakin hero and my all time role model he was the one that got me into metal

  • RIP Pete, we will miss you

  • Raise a glass to Pete... you will be missed...

  • RIP Pete

  • R.I.P.

  • RIP

  • The beginning sounds like Aqua Lung

  • @GuitarMotorRipper100 Lol it is, apparently they used to do the medleys live from a lot of tracks

  • very cool

  • the commet track to the whole video is hilarious! they pick on each other why they watch themselves lmao

  • There best song by far imo, gets me bouncing off the walls everytime i hear it :D

  • O Type O Negative tinha que aparacer no Brasil, oras!

  • Type O Negative kicks fucking ass!

  • This song paints a picture in my mind of a dying norse warrior, freezing to death after a week long battle in the freezing grips of a snowy mountain, everyone slaughtered but him...yelling at the top of his lungs to the gods to let him avenge the death of his only son.

  • lol, thats crazy, the song is about his heart being broken by a women but i suppose thats a cool image.

  • 25 bucks magic city music hall Binghamton, NY bad ass show

  • this one goes for a lil worm i know.....

  • me too.

  • They usually reply to the "you suck" chant with something like," you paid 25 bucks to see our sorry asses, who sucks now?"

  • we started chanting it at their recent cincinatti show and peter about 30 minutes into the set goes..hey i heard some of you saying we sucked early, well you know what i have to say to that!....you really hurt my feelings! (acts like hes crying) then he says to punish you, we were just going to play an hour but now were playing 90 minutes! hahaha gota love em

  • no it's 15 dollars not 25

  • @werewolfmatingritual

    not where i went ;)

  • yessss!

  • YOU SUCK

  • Attitude when he sips the wine...I feel like having some wine too.

  • Everyone knows the "You suck!" stems from Origin of the Feces because the "audience" chants it throughout the album.

Anywho, this performance of the song is amazing, I prefer it over the album version. I've only had the pleasure of seeing Type O once, but they're one of my favorites and I hope they tour again soon damns it.

  • whats ironic about this statement is when i saw type o the dude we all started chanting you suck you suck and this guy next to me goes you paid 15 american dollars to be here...and his friends were like what the fuck? and i lean to him and go AND WERE GETTIN PAID TONIGHT! and he laughs and says that guy gets it!. theyre one of my favorite bands also and theyre amazing live. now that peter is sober

  • We paid $300 American dollars in Las Vegas.........small venue

  • an underrated band period. If you listen to the melodies and ideas they come up with, it's brilliant stuff

  • +1.period

  • i have to agree with you, mate.

  • Peter is a much better bass player than he gets credit for. Nice to see him show off a bit in this one.

  • so fucking sick dude

  • OMFG, Aqualung jam!

    sitting on a park bench

eyeing little girls with bad intent

  • type o negative for life fuckers

  • if you don't like them, there's the door, and why bother searching em up on youtube?, pathetic.

  • wtf are you talking about ? what he said would imply that he likes 'em ? btw, type o negative loves to be insulted at their shows.

  • TYPE O NEGATIVE 4ever.....

    YOU SUCK...YOU SUCK...YOU SUCK

  • OMIGOD!

    I LOVE this song!

    XD

  • One of my favorite Type O Negative songs, done so fucking good live.

  • "one, two, fuck you!"

  • @ElComanchero "One, two, fuck you!"

    That's my favorite part.

  • he is officially 6ft 6

  • haha one two FUCK YOU!!

  • theyre just as amazing in concert

  • i agree dude.

  • the intro Peter plays starting at 0.16 sounds a bit like "In the Hall of the Mountain King" or "Dovre gubbens hall" by Edvard Grieg.

  • It is Aqualung by Jethro Tull

  • A giant of a man, that Steele. What 12 feet?

  • lol, pretty close brother..6foot8.

  • 6ft8 = how many cm?

  • AQUALUNG!!!!! Great Pete!

  • 5.11 ahhhhhhh!!!

  • when I hear this song ... I feel some very deep emotion!

It really makes me feel cold but that's an awsome feeling!

  • First time I saw Type O...in 1995, opening for Ozzy Osbourne a few months before October Rust came out...they opened with this song.

  • I need an mp3 of this particular performance. It's so great.

  • WRONG!!!!!!! Sorry bro.

  • Kenny sings a big part of this song on the album. Kenny is so awesome. Since Lord Petrus' decline, my appreciation for Kenny's abilities has increased.

  • Why not now pete!!!!! lol

it was 1999, when he still had his mind!!!!

  • I downloaded this song but I totally prefer this live !

  • its interesting like u can see the sweating marks getting bigger thru this song

  • lol, Well Spotted!!!!

    "Relax Peter"

  • One of the best rock songs of all time, (in my humble opinion).

  • I would say this is one of the best concert performances by ANY band, its just not noticed...and its sad :(

  • i know type o negative show's are really good i remember when i saw them they started playing christan woman and everybody was singing along then they light part of the song came and everybody started moshing lol but i had a really good time

  • did he drink wine?

  • Yes Sir, It was French Red wine!

Just the 1 Bottle....lol, Kenny was Sober the hole Show.

  • peter wasent drunk when they played there its strange to see him sober. great band!

  • Bizarre Festival in Germany. Type O Negative are very popular in Germany.

  • my fav tune off the blooydy kisses album

type o negative is the shit! ^_^

  • I love this faster version to this tune,Petes Little solo half way through iz amazing. To this fucking day i dont no wot he uses to get that kind of sound from his bass. Bizzare fest 1999!!

  • neiter do i.. i play bass and have wondered for the longest time what kind of distortion he uses...if you ever find out let me know plzz :)

  • No Problem Dude.

  • about that bass sound...im not sure what kind he uses but i wanna say it might be a boss distortion pedal that he runs through a delay. After that im jus guess but he might run it through a sustainer too

  • Thanks 4 the Info Brother! I shall Look that up. R you a Bass Player yourself?
