@NayokeHenji but apparently you have the nerve to yell at someone on the internet about a retarded computer, wow get a fucking life. and im not either. but you don't see any misspelling from me
I wish this video was more accurate. The fact that the Difference Engine was built to Victorian tolerances and works strongly suggests that this machine could also have been built at the time and worked. The only reason the machine wasn't built was the lack of needed funding.
The difference engine could have been built at the time. I have to wonder if the analytical engine was right at the border of doable. Maybe if they'd gathered the finest watchmakers together and such. Well, the world will probably never know for sure.
@SailorBarsoom That's not what I've read history-wise. It was a little too out of their abilities at the time to make the accurate parts needed out of metal (brass). Maybe someone somewhere could have done it. He tried and it just couldn't be done. Plus they ran out of money.
OK. I was going with what I'd read of the difference engine. This was more advanced, so I guess it was just too much. I wonder in what year it would have become possible?
I've just finished making a film about this: it's on youtube too: it's part of a series about information pioneers and Ada Lovelace and Charles Babbage's story is the first episode. Check out the website and vote if you feel inspired at pioneers. bcs. org
hm, they WOULD get pretty heavy:) and at some point to heavy to run, i mean, the developement would run into the same direction: smaller parts. eventually, we would get where we are today, kindof. nanotech scientists are trying to build little "cogwheel machines" on a molecular level, that appears pretty cool and is an honor to Babbage, in a way.
pretty faulty presentation. Lovelace was not in any way related to the any "Programm". All she did was write an article on the engine and thought up uses - she did not by match Babbage's genius. Furthermore, it does not seem that Babbage though of steam as a power source. In all, this is a rather superficial and inaccurate vid - i think. Read a good book on the topic instead: "The Cogwheel Brain"
Well the device is pretty cool. Its funny that it is possible to make a computer out o anything logical. you could make a computer out gears like a bike or make it out of citric chips. I wonder if we stayed with the mechanical computers. How powerfull they could get.
In the Warhammer 40k universe that is exactly how it went, solid state only took man so far and BAM, they went to "cogitators" that use steam, electricity, and cog works to run.
@jkadvices
They have done. Also plenty of macano & lego models about.

@osrevad Lack of funding was only part of it. There was also a problem with the ability to make the parts with enough accuracy.
