  • I don't know what you're getting at exactly, but I am non-denominational.

  • I too have to agree with Steve. This is extremely powerful: and the friends that I sent Stephen Talylor videos who were unfamiliar with him absolutely LOVED it.

  • I have to agree with Steve. This is one of his most powerful songs. True and honest -- it shows how utterly and completely we need Jesus to save us from ourselves. We can only just manage to "fall into His arms at the finish line."

  • An anthem. Gives me chills every time I hear it.

  • Not the greatest music video considering the content of the song, it could have been much better. But great song anyways.

  • Steve Taylor is the only reason I listened to the Newsboys when they first came out.

  • Yes, he was the power behind the throne.

  • One of the great Christian songs of all time.

  • Powerful stuff!

  • Steven's music and videos pack a powerful punch.

"Locked in a washroom turning old tricks

deaf and joyless and full of it"

    OH!

Yep. Steven's got the goods alright.

  • Good song and video; I do not recall knowing about him.

  • this is one of the most powerul set of lyrics ever to have music set to them! Grace.. don't have to understand it, but hey I'm going to live in it!

  • BWOOOSH. didn't mean to hit enter just yet: my point was that i think mr. taylor has been a huge influence on all the great christian music artists!

  • I've lost track of all but the Newsboys.

Phil Joel left the Newsboys this past year so now, what I gather, they are continuing on as a 4-some. PFR broke several years ago but I think they may have reunited one or twice.

ST produced and directed a Twila Paris video also probably 10 years or more ago. It's posted somewhere...."What am I without you."

I think it's worth looking at. His video concept with her voice sends me to "that place." Thanks for the reply.

  • i had this dvd in 1993 and it was "borrowed".

haven't seen these videos since then! steve is brilliant: i know he produces the newsboys (who i also love) but has anyone heard anything recent that he has done?

love to brothers and sisters; children of the Most High!

  • You could say he is an honorary Newsboy. :)

  • Good one!

    Great images and lyrics.

    Thanks for posting!

  • Duran Duran used foreign locales for a few of their earlier hit videos. But Steve does it better.

  • I love this song. It really captures the struggle of the Christian life. My favorite line is "And I gasped when I saw you fall in His arms at the finish line." Amen!

"Father, by your grace, I will never yield."

  • Absolutely! I think ST captures a person's pre-salvation, salvation, temptations, overcoming temptations, repentance, and ultimate forgiveness, from maybe the guy who led him/her to salvation(?) perspective.

That last line is mine also. Makes me wanna shout! Great comment. Good to know there are other ST fans out there.

  • oh believe me: i have never stopped praying that the person who did the "borrowing" will get everything out of steve's music, probably more than they ever dared imagine!

yes, i am a total fan, and jars of clay, pfr, (whatever happened to them?), NEWSBOYS, ET

  • He's never been afraid to tell you what's on his mind.

  • Though you struggle in this relm... You finish first at the finish line.... Though you succeed in all the world gives in this relm, you can choose to win or lose at the finish line.... What will it be???? The weakest win... The sickest stand strong... Those trampled underfoot, become inheritors of "The Kingdom".. This stuff reaches and preaches... "Thanks Steve" for your exajecticle study of the "GOD-MAN" relationship...

  • I First saw Steve and some band when they came to Oz as the main artist for BlackStump festival Number 1. He blew everyone away with his amazing talent and strong message in his songs. Still love his music. Cheers Trev

  • I'd never seen this video before this morning and had a vivid dream about Steve Taylor last night. I met him once just after "Meltdown" came out - he's a prince of a guy. The dream is at bingfutch dot blogspot dot com - I'll be parsing the meaning for awhile, I'm sure.

  • Another great video and song from a precious and talented man. Steve Taylor, don't stop your music, at least for a couple more years. I have loved your music since "I want to be a Clone" the world needs you, Steve you are a rare gem. A diamond of perfection.

  • Heh...I wasn't even born when "I want to be a Clone" came out, but Steve Taylor is one of my favorite Christian artists. "Finish Line" is probably my favorite song of his (though "Hero" and "Jesus is for Losers" come close). Interesting video, but the pictures evoked by the words themselves are far beyond this video, IMO. 80s music to the glory of God! :-)

  • +1, the pictures are better, though I am 15 and I have loved Steve Taylor(thanks to my dad!) since a very young age.

  • This is definitely a favorite song, but then again there are so many. Almost everything from Meltdown was brilliant, but I think the best of all is "Hero" from Meltdown. Didn't even make it onto his last boxed set, which had almost EVERYTHING ELSE. I had to buy the album in MP3 form from Amazon because I'd totally destroyed my tape from playing TOO many times.

  • Uh, isn't this the title track from the "Squint" album? That is, it's called "Squint"?

  • It is hard to say which is his best. I still have fond memories of seeing him warm up for Rez Band at Calvary Chapel in Costa Mesa, and jamming to "I want to be a Clone" and "Bad Rap (Who You Trying to Kid, Kid)". I'm flashing on his songs that have touched me as I am typing this. I remember crying to "Bady Doe," and getting angry about "Over my Dead Body," and it's obvious that "Meat the Press" is more appropriate today than when he wrote it.

    Peace,

    Tom

  • Wow, someone as old as I am with a memory for the great shows of years past. I too was at the Steve Taylor concert (in Mpls) when he opened for Rez. What an awesome coming out party! I have such great respect for his music. The lyrics are as cutting and hard hitting as any I've ever heard in 25 years of Christian Music. What memories this song stirs...

  • This and Violent Blue are his best songs.

  • Absolutely fantastic. So many of my good memories are triggered by hearing Steve Taylor's music.
