Keep dreaming. She's a a very talented journalist. Read her books, "No Logo" and "Shock Doctrine"... if she's an idiot, what then can you say of yourselves?
To call Naomi Klein an airhead is an outrage. Her books are heavy duty - yet accessible - critiques on the real world in which we all live. Understandably, not everyone wants to know about the ugly truth so they call truth seekers and progressives like Klein commies and other nonesense. But at the end of the day we ALL know they're right and if we don't follow their advice it's gonna hurt more than if we do. So wake up kids and listen to Auntie Naomi!
@LondonWeekendLesbian Naomi Klein said that Milton Friedman was in favor of the war when he said SEVERAL TIMES ON RECORD that he was not. She is a propagandist and a bad one at that.
What? Is this a neo-con posse in here? Why are you all watching Naomi Klein? Are you on assignment from Fox News? Get a life...and an ideology of your own.
I do not know what the problem is. Everybody can create a company and pay millions to each of the employed workers in Indonesia. Why demand it from Nike? If there wasn't Nike, Indonesians wouldn't get a dime. M. Jordan will most likely spend it anyway or anyway thius creating demand on other products. To ensure econimical progress and inventions, rewards and demand should follow passion, excellence and achievements- not socialist "jusctice".
This woman is an opportunist. You gotta give her credit, because she has capitalized on our corrupt society. Is she correct with most of her theories? No. She takes factual based events and connects unproven and misguided theories to "make a case". Cleverly, she teases the right and placates the left in an effort to succeed. What does succeed mean, PROFIT. So, therefore, she is guilty of the very same thing she writes about. This woman is a charletan...
Klein and her followers should acquaint themselves with "human action" and "economic calculation in the socialist commonwealth" by Von Mises, "Capitalism and freedom" by Friedman, "the road to serfdom" by hayek and of course the "wealth of nations". She speaks in unsupported generalties. She slandered friedman whilst displaying an unapologetically biased subjective form of "journalism" in no logo and shock doctrine.
this woman hasn't a CLUE about what she's talking about
""economic calculation in the socialist commonwealth" by Von Mises," - you are throwing out titles and phrases, i don't know what you are talking about too
MJ = passion, excellence, achievements - you stop rewarding people like him, you slow down the economical progress in developing countries. It is truth that people in communist China could have survived without their market being opened to customers from US and Europe. Now, after it has happened, they switched their bicycles to motor vehicles and outdoor bathrooms into the indoor ones. Logo= ideas, track record, recognition, information, but also responsibility.
All I really know about the 1970s is that problem of the early 1970s in the USA was caused by regulated prices on oil. Regulation=socialism. If you lived behind the iron curtain in the 1970s you could observe what were the results of reward and demand following "social justice" and government planning instead of: passion, excellence and achievements.
"Regulation=socialism." - not really. liberals contradicted themselves and called for state action to create an independent market regulation. so are they socialist?
I would bet that the wage the domestic companies would pay to those worker's was at least 50% lower for the same amount of work than Nike had paid. The 19th century factories were extremly hard places to work on today's standards, yet people were moving to cities because the quality of life they got was much higher than in overcrowded villages.
Think: no Nike the same "exploitation" and 50% wage for a similar work.
"quality of life they got was much higher than in overcrowded villages." - Marx talked about the criminalization of these workers. given these are "workers" slaves were not even in the picture who supported these workers to reproduce their labor power through sugar and etc. market regulates itself without state, but state is vital to construct the condition for market to function.
Again, she is not a "commie". Lumping MF in with Americas covert operations is actually quite coherent. It's quite clear that his brand of fundamentalism benefits US (and other western) multi-national corporations (even before this...Guatemala, Dulles, United Fruit Co. and CIA). Hence, US gov't (pro-biz!) and the biz class LOVE MF. All tied together all neat like. You can't separate them. MF is a disgrace to REAL capitalism...READ THE SHOCK DOC!! Standing by an untrue statement is a waste.
A conspiracy theorist, well at least I can admire you on that.
Have you studied much of Miltons vast amount of work.
Naomi often resorts to Ad hom attacks, hasl not accepted offers to debate economists in defense of Milton F, in spite of what she says to the contrary.
I refer you to firedman facts dotcom as a reference to numerous offers.
I don't deny what you say about CIA and the faux conservatives, just dont lay the blame on MF,
MF uncovered the feds role in the great depression in 1962.
If you want to point fingers at what actually is responsible for all the ills of society that you speak, you might want to investigate the groups that actually are profiting from them.
Rothchild Dynasty are enpowered by the alien Goddesses they say. Many know that something is very wrong and believe that there is a conspiracy to enslave the population, but few suspect or dare to discuss that the conspiracy is an Anunnaki one.

Naomi Klein is a populist dullard; she's a university drop-out who places emotion above reason and logic.
Allow me to quote Martin Wolf, editor of the Financial Times:
"The assault on brands is a new, intellectually feeble twist on this old theme. It is no innocent twist. If freedom is slavery, then slavery can be freedom. Or as Jean-Jacques Rousseau and his intellectual progeny, a long line of communist tyrants, have argued, people must be forced to be free."
I'd say if you bother to read any of her books you'll find that she bases her opinions on empirical research and documented facts. I personally find her far from dull, but then I probably coudn't quote the editor of the Financial Times which presumably isn't in the least dull.
Well, perhaps you should acquaint yourself with publications such as the Financial Times and The Economist so as that you may garner a more complete understanding of the issues.
I've read No Logo: it's absolute rubbish. Brands are a sign of corporate weakness, not strength. In 2000, the largest companies included the likes Exxon, GM, Ford, Toyota, GE, Shell and BP. Nike (a target of Klein) was 233rd on the list (market cap). Far from the upper-echelons of international corporate elitism...

Ask yourself, is it really that powerful? Do brands really have that much of an affect on your life?
Moving on - working in a factory producing runners is a shitty existence. I'll concede that fact. However, when given the choice between working there and starving, I'm certain that you'd chose to work there. The fact that they have employees to begin with is a testament to the fact that there must be some advantage to working there in the first place.
You can't have read it very closely then since she was not actually criticising the fact that companies use logos to differentiate themselves from each other.
No Logo criticised the fact that corporations like Nike project an image onto the public (caring about people, good for society, etc) via PR and advertising, while the realities of what harm they actually do (exploiting workers in the third world, harming the environment) are hidden, firstly because most production no longer takes place in the first world and secondly because corporations hide behind their logo - their image that has been repeated over and over in massive ad campaigns.
Her point is also that Nike or Yves Saint Laurent and such name brand, or logo brands, charge more because it's their name. The price is not based simply on the value and quality of the material goods, but by the level of the desire and even exclusivity of the logo.
"she's a university drop-out" - not only is that an ad hominem attack, it is also incorrect.
She did drop out of university for a while to work elsewhere then went back and got a degree (I assume in journalism). So she has a university education.
However, the implication that someone who has not been through university doesn't know anything shows your elitist mentality...
My brain is always hungry for more of what she has to say.

I find her intellectually incoherent at times.
