i remember the first time I saw this musical I fell for Adam's character and I thought I was so like Milly, because I also dream like she did about love.
Jane Powell (born Suzanne Lorraine Burce; April 1, 1929) is an American singer, dancer and actress. After rising to fame as a singer in her home state...........
No voice training! She is beautiful! I wish being feminine and strong were virtues women still had. Back then, women who slept around, or drank too much were "floozies" and "Tramps"....now they're Lady Gaga and adored. So sad.
...The stage version is different. Different lyrics, lower notes. The role of Milly was written for Debbie Boone, and her distinctive voice type. She was an alto-vibrato. So am I. They made most of the notes higher so that the movie version's Milly could sing it easily. She has a beautiful voice. They took out a lot of songs. Though, being Milly onstage is wonderful. I just closed as Milly for Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. Love the musical.
I like the vibrato style used by sopranos of Jane Powell`s generation-the vibrato brings a sweet, lush, tinkling bell-like quality to their singing. Thanks for sharing with Us. Lorraine
@Zara0692 but it's still their voices- pretty much all movie musicals record their songs in the studio and just mouth to them on set when filming because it enables the cast to move about more and put more expression into the songs without having to concentrate on their singing.
yeah she uses a lot of vibrato, but she sounds amazing, she would have been an excellent sleeping beauty for disney when sleeping beauty dances in the forest:)
@SONOFHERO52 I agree with manolinmanolon, cause what has 5 feet tall got to do with singing dancing and acting?! I mean Dancing is easier if you're smaller actually and some people sing well anyway,i mean i don't understand...
@nicelydone31 uh NICELY...yes it was...JANE POWELL is a singer....actually she is a triple threat....a trained dancer, singer and actress...yes..5 of the brides did have their voices dubbed...but NOT Jane Powell
@jimvs1 Actually YOU need to look it up..take the JUNE BRIDE number...only VIRGINIA GIBSON (one of the brides) voice was used..all the other brides had one of the following SINGERS dubbing them...BARBARA AMES .. BETTY ALLAN... BETTY NOYES... MARIE VERNON ... and NORMA ZIMMER
YOU NEED to look it up.I already did and I'm right(no offense).Only one of the Brides had her voice dubed(Ruth).Startpage this movie,it will be on wikipida(might be mispelled)and there it will give information on the brides and the movie...ect.
@jimvs1 hey..I gave you the names of the singers...they are even listed on the CD ..only Virginia Gibson among the brides had expeirence as a Broadway singer..all the others were dancers..I mean really..you think Julie Newmar was a singer??..lol
If you did research, then you would know that even though she is not noticed for these talents,Julie Newmar was an acomplished singer and she also played the panio.
The others sang, but are better known for their dacing.
you still miss the point..they were dubbed..thats the history

@sarahmw85 Except this was probably dubbed over, as most songs are, so she probably wasn't wearing a corset when she was singing.
