If you study with Tim youll meet another motherfucker who has shedded their absolute nuts off, rediculous ear and everything yes, but guys like Tim have put ungodly amounts of time into their art
I would really like to know how the hell Tim can play that lines...what does he uses to get those sounds? He doesn't use any defined scale or maybe he uses many simultaneously...i really would like to know...Random cromaticisms?Kinda "note diplacement"? What? Can anyone tell me? does he uses only descending lines when he plays in one string? T_T
Haha, my friend has a guitar lab with him at Berklee and he transcribed the tune Sparkle off of his Trio album and he says he has no idea how he came up with it. I want to take my private lessons with him eventually. Maybe in a couple years.
i did...but it seems to have no "creation minded process". i got it. The right way to delevop this sounds is included in one keyword: instinct. Ear is too obvious xD
Tim is a genius... I sense a lot of diffeneces from Allan tough..
Dude plays some great lines but the Holdsworth thing is too similar. Like cats who try REALLY hard to sound like Wes. Still, compelling to see someone do it well.
Holdsworth doesn't breath in his solos. Miller does. I saw Holdsworth live. After 30 minutes I heard everything. I felt like leaving. Holdworth's best solos are on the I.O.U album, where he actually plays phrases, and breaths, and still has a very unique sound.
Tim played on my CD "Blown Fuse". He's a wonderful musician. You can really hear Holdsworth's influence on his concept. I know they both worked out of the "Thesaurus of Scales and Melodic Patterns" by Slonimsky. Tim is super nice cat too.
Every recording I have heard of Tim Miller playing, he has been totally reaching for something new, and it's absolutely incredible. He has something else going on.
BTW, i didn't really hear Tim play any 2 note motifs that'd be that disturbing.. actually i liked them very much. it's been quite some time since i heard a guitarist as original as him. but then again it's also probably just a matter of taste..
I liked the solos of Tim (guitar) and Elliot (trombone) very much, but in my opinion, Randy (trumpet) doesn't really fit this kind of music - he's a great musician but i wouldn't pick him for this kind of music. probably just a matter of personal taste. wicked sound though.
this sort of jazz stuff has got me started playing music at the ripe old age of 34 - I love this sort of music and what it represents. I went to the jazz cafe in london a few years ago and saw alan holdsworth and it beats the hell out of big band music - the memories are still with me, just like the people must have of this evening. I got to this page by chance and I am grateful for it - hope they perform in the UK soon
I think Tim's solo on this song is outstanding. I believe that every time he picks up the guitar he searches for something new, he listens more than anyone I know to what's going on around him, and he is completely honest with his music.
We are all, of course, entitled to our own opinion. I'm sorry you feel that way about Tim's music, if you checked out some of his own stuff as well you might get into it.....
i really loved millers solo on the tune. its hip and beatifull. i love his originality.

Damn, what a band. They all absolutely slay when it's their turn to rip it up but when they lay back it's nice and groovy.

I really like his playing, but sometimes in his atonal licks, he sounds like he's practicing.

Tim is just good. He hears what he wants to play and just plays it. He's got a ridiculous ear and sense of time. He's not thinking about scales.
Saxyman14 3 years ago
sort of like an Alan Holdsworth style, with a smoother sounding guitar lol

does anyone has any transcription from this? it would be funny to carve something out from that!

That guitar sounds beautiful! What kind is it?

Klein guitar, doesnt make those anymore. Bill Frisell also uses/used them in the 90s I think. Sounds beautiful :)
