Though it's the same plant, it's bred exactly opposite as pot. Pot is bred to increase potency; hemp has been bred to decrease potency so that though they are the same plant, they're bred for two entirely different purposes, so I think the terms should not be interchanged and people should understand the difference. If you eliminate the THC, I guess hemp crop for clothing and ropes is okay. Marijuana is far more potent in intoxication than alcohol or cigarettes. It has more ill effects than both ethanol and nicotine. Marinol pills for AIDS patients and chemo patients, I guess that's fine, but I've seen the ill effects that weed can produce, and have come to the conclusion that it's classification as an illegal substance is warranted.

I read PC Magazine, Maximum PC, PC Gamer, Games for Windows, & Control Design. And I will not read an on-line magazine. I turned down the on-line version of Control Design. I dislike the linking format of on-line material for most of my reading material. One could get lost in many links and loose sight of the original topic, get derailed from the original point, and easily never return to read the rest of the original article you were interested in.
And 80% of my reading time is on the toilet. Hemp is a great rope material, and doesn't stretch like synthetic materials; that can be an important attribute sometimes. On the flip side, hemp will rot; but this means it is environmentally friendly.

But I have researched marijuana, hemp, and know that it was illegalized wrongfully in the 40's, 50's, & 60's. Before it was completely illegal, one had to get a hemp stamp in the US to legally have it, and the gov't would not issue such stamp! I used to smoke bud throughout my teens and early twenties. I quit because it began to affect me in negative ways but I'm not against other people using it - in fact, there are far more destructive legal substances available, like alcohol. Alcohol causes far more problems in society than Marajuana ever has.
Its the dullest non productive drug ever. Don't listen to people who say its not a drug....why else would they smoke it? I used to smoke it. all my friends used to smoke it. A weed smoker doesn't realise how much it effects them until they stop smoking it for a couple of months. The same applies to a cocaine taker and a drinker. All drugs are bad. Some people think weed is necessary to be groovy. They're probably right. Groovy gets you nowhere.
Hemp is good, I smoke it mostly on week-ends, but I used to smoke a lot more. It is bad when that's all the person is thinking about. It smells good, taste good and has a nice color! My favorite plant :) Honestly it shouldn't be prohibited, but maybe a bit restricted (I think of abuse on it). Some poeple can manage their consumptions, but some can't and get out of control, and that's a bad part of it.

Hi Decky, I'm %100 all for the use of medicinal marijuana as a legal alternative to non working perscription drugs. I'm all for it because I too have a mother who suffers from Multiple Sclerosis. I work in psychiatry and have experience with paranoia and psychosis. The notion that cannabis is universally causal of psychosis is incorrect. Psychosis is marked by persistent delusions and/ or repeated auditory/ visual/ olfactory/ tactile hallucination. Marijuana MAY cause paranoia but its certainly not insidious. Cannabis induced paranoia is noted after the imbibing of it. If it doesnt pass when intoxication subsides, there is an underlying problem and cannabis consumption should be stopped.

A person's disposition is determined by life experiences and/or the possible presence of mental instability as a result of genetic predisposition or said life experience. I disagree with you completely. More and more studies are finally revealing that marijuana leads either quickly or slowly to significant psychosis. Also, there are people who are naturally the "wallflower" type, and so they're the ones who would be able to conceal their psychosis better.

My training is in inflammatory diets, and most forms of alcohol and marijuana do cause a certain amount of reactive inflammation, so I don't do well on that stuff.
As I understand it, hemp is related to marijuana not the same thing. Nettles are also related to cannabis but, as in the case of hemp, do not produce Tetra-Hydra-Cannabanol or 'THC' (not sure if I spelled it right) As far as licensing goes, hemp has been used since the beginning of time as bird food; in the manufacture of cordage such as rope, and in the production of sacking, so it is doubtful that a special license is required to grow something that is both so benign and widely utilised.
Unfortunatly i tried cannabis at a very young age and i became hooked. I probably smoked it everyday for a year if not more. First there was paranoia but i smoked through it. I quit for a while then started again, I became very depressed and also developed sever anxiety, which is the worst thing ever. I probably would by skitsophrenic by now if i didnt stop. Any commercial crop is and will be grown in an unsustainable way.
The same pesticides/fertilizers, etc used on cotton, and on every other crop, will be used on hemp when becomes a commercial crop.
As far as marijuana, within reason the goverment has no business telling me what to do and what not to do. They should be guiding, leading by example and most of all be an informative and educating entity, NOT a rulling, pushy one.

Though it's the same plant, it's bred exactly opposite as pot. Pot is bred to increase potency; hemp has been bred to decrease potency so that though they are the same plant, they're bred for two entirely different purposes, so I think the terms should not be interchanged and people should understand the difference. The illegalization of both is ludicrous. Keeping pot illegal makes rich men out of criminals. I think DuPont bribed Harry Anslinger to turn the nation against pot for nylon's sake.

ps, when I hear hemp, I hear the best raw fiber we can ever have, the best building materials we ever had, you name it, it is better with hemp even cooking oils, fuel oils (if you must burn it to go), the list is nearly endless.

Many things are okay in moderation.
THC has it's uses in mild doses, but like an overdose of anything, the benefits are lost.
Addictions are another matter, as it becomes the master, and we the slave.

Hemp seed is a "whole food". Which is even more extremely rare. Hemp is not marijuana. It is a different plant. Marijuana contains THC and is typically all female and seedless (hence sinsemilla). Hemp is male and female plants grown together and the females are fertilized and contain seed. There is also near zero THC levels in hemp. Hemp is an extremely fast growing and sustainable plant that not only is good for you to eat, it is good for soil conditioning and ground stabilization.

There are obviously 2 zillion uses for the plant including paper, clothing, sails for boats, oil that can be used for cooking, health supplementation, and burned for light and fuel in a diesel vehicle. It is now used as wood for building and skateboards. The oil can be made into a resin and plastic type items can be made like dashboards for cars, wheels, tires, etc. Henry Ford made a car almost completely from hemp and it also ran on hemp but it was banned by the government and the oil companies

If you eliminate the THC, I guess hemp crop for clothing and ropes is okay. Marijuana is far more potent in intoxication than alcohol or cigarettes. It has more ill effects than both ethanol and nicotine. Marinol pills for AIDS patients and chemo patients, I guess that's fine, but I've seen the ill effects that weed can produce, and have come to the conclusion that it's classification as an illegal substance is warranted.

Hemp is good, I smoke it mostly on week-ends, but I used to smoke a lot more. It is bad when that's all the person is thinking about. It smells good, taste good and has a nice color! My favorite plant :) Honestly it shouldn't be prohibited, but maybe a bit restricted (I think of abuse on it). I work in psychiatry and have experience with paranoia and psychosis. The notion that cannabis is universally causal of psychosis is incorrect. Psychosis is marked by persistent delusions and/ or repeated auditory/ visual/ olfactory/ tactile hallucination. Marijuana MAY cause paranoia but its certainly not insidious. Cannabis induced paranoia is noted after the imbibing of it. If it doesnt pass when intoxication subsides, there is an underlying problem and cannabis consumption should be stopped.

I disagree with you completely. More and more studies are finally revealing that marijuana leads either quickly or slowly to significant psychosis. Also, there are people who are naturally the "wallflower" type, and so they're the ones who would be able to conceal their psychosis better.

Yep. Every single time I've ever done it, paranoia time. And I've noticed that even the people who say that it "doesn't affect them", also seem to have developed very addicted, sadistically conceited, and even predatory personalities as a result. Decky, the problem is that most people won't realize they've changed in that way, or even want to face it or admit... it's like their egos get in the way of owning up to it. As far as alcohol goes, the only alcohol I drink is red wine, and very little at that, because I'm on the blood type diet.

As I understand it, hemp is related to marijuana not the same thing. Nettles are also related to cannabis but, as in the case of hemp, do not produce Tetra-Hydra-Cannabanol or 'THC' (not sure if I spelled it right) As far as licensing goes, hemp has been used since the beginning of time as bird food; in the manufacture of cordage such as rope, and in the production of sacking, so it is doubtful that a special license is required to grow something that is both so benign and widely utilised.

Unfortunatly i tried cannabis at a very young age and i became hooked. I probably smoked it everyday for a year if not more. First there was paranoia but i smoked through it. I quit for a while then started again, I became very depressed and also developed sever anxiety, which is the worst thing ever. I probably would by skitsophrenic by now if i didnt stop. Its just stupid abusing such a precious herb everyday.dont take advantage of it because it will take advantage of you!

Look up HEMP and Harry Anslinger. Marijuana was demonized to criminalize Mexicans and Blacks, to expand Fed powers over 4th Amendment. Hemp farming was outlawed to eliminate competition to Standard Oil, Dupont. It was cheap, easy to grow, no need for petro-chems, and could replace wood-paper, pressed wood, silk, cotton, nylon rope, and many other things.
I DO NOT smoke it, but I did as a kid. I don't kill brain cells, but being stoned all the time is not good.

Now if hemp helps in making things for people its great, but if people use it just to get high then thats different. If you want to relax, go read or something, go to the park, but dont light up a (joint) thats just as bad as smoking a cigarette. The Paper has chemicals in it. Although Hemp / Marijuana is a natural plant I hardly doubt it should be inhaled. This is al just my opinion of course. Alot of people smoke it, and it makes them relax and mellow out as they say, but most of the time they are coughing and gagging.

Hemp / marijuana is addictive, but when you get down to it, its alot better than doing all this other stuff that can kill you. There are great side effects to it, and not so great side effects.

i think hemp IS the same plant as marihuana, just that hemp grown for fabric has low THC.
Neuro scientists' main concern with cannabis is kids whose brain still in development use it, as is not uncommon nowadays... can prevent optimal development
People I knew using it too regularly became careless and did a lot worse in school than could be, some completely screwing it.

There's a lot of kwestions about hemp and MJ there, but i've got a shirt made of hemp and a joint made of MJ and both fit perfectly:)) There's a hemp farm (minus THC of course) in england, but he had lots of trouble setting it up. Funny, things that are good for us tend to cause the most problems for governments?!!

I really have no interest in using marijuana myself, but I'd like to see it legalized just so the government wouldn't have any excuses for interfering with the cultivation of hemp. Our government interferes with our lives way too much and some of the excuses it uses to justify these restrictions are rather lame!!!
