I haven't been to Wildood in a few years, when was this fire? Was Mariner's Landing the pier of shops toward the north end of the boardwalk?

@mrsparkle001 i think it was in 2008. mariners landing is the second pier of rides. it only hurt two rides i tihnk. the bumper cars, and seals.

I found out from my supervisor at Morey's that the loud explosions were from containers of hydraulic fluid exploding from the heat and i think that 4 vehicles were a total loss.

Morey's does not own Nickels Midway Pier. It was leased in 2000 to Andrew Weiner who opened Splash Zone that year and leased Castle Dracula from the Nickels. Splash Zone initiated a lawsuit against the Nickels claiming that they agreed to sell them the pier in 1999, not lease it to them. I think the Nickels lost as Supercade is closing.

Hey, verbitski8, how is Pirate's? It looks pretty cool. I rode it when it was Dark River, in Aug 1995, June, 1996, and June, 1998. I like 'dark rides", "haunted rides", and now Wildwood has more haunted attractions like Ghost Ship on Mariner's, House of Haunts on Sportland Pier, Horror 3D next to Strand Theatre, and Curse of the Mummy on Morey's Wild Wheels Adventure Pier (former Fun Pier). I was also in Wildwood between 1980 and 1983 when Fun Pier, Hunt's Pier was there, and old haunted rides.

In 1982 a new rectangular building was built where the Starlight Ballroom was along the boardwalk just north of Mariner's Landing for the Hot Spot, Stanley Sportland, etc. On Anthony's Wildwood Boardwalk site you can see aerials of Mariner's Landing from 1979, 1982 and see the difference.

Wildwood lost half it's haunted attractions/rides to fire, Lost World, Crazy House, Castle Frankenstein on Fun Pier in 1984, Castle Dracula on Nickels Midway Pier on Jan 16, 2002, and Hitchcock Manor on Mariner's Landing (near the front on the left side where the offices are now) August, 1981 which started in the Starlight Ballroom which was converted into an arcade, Hot Spot and other businesses in 1978. It was previously owned by the Hunt's of Hunt's Pier & Theaters.

This fire was in December of 1992, and took much of Nickel's Midway Pier. The pier is now owned by the Moreys, I believe, and is not the one that took Castle Dracula. In fact, the Castle was pretty much unscathed from the '92 fire, but the '02 fire destroyed it.

I lived on the boardwalk in 1969 and my mom and brother worked at the pier. It was called Fun Pier back then and I have great memories of it.

It was in June 2008 on Mariner's Landing I had work on the pier the next day. It was under the pier thats where it started. I worked on the 3d ride Pirates of the Wildwoods that summer as a ride operator. So I was there for the fire. Not fun

I was one of the firefighters that fought this fire. It was in June of 2008. Started in a recycling bin under the pier at approx. 1 a.m. and was not extinguished until approx, 7 a.m. Over 13 companies responded from as far away as Marmora(25 miles away)

I was at the Bolero Hotel which is like a 10 second run from the fire. We didnt realize what happened until the morning. We did hear sirens and stuff that night bug we didnt think anything of it. It sucks cause the seal ride was one of those rides we got on as little kids and now it's gone. :( We looked throught the fence...it was all...burned.

Everytime I think about when I'm going down, I always wonder what I'm going to do because it seems like nothing. But there is ALWAYS something to do.

And I heard it was just the Bumper Cars. They tore that down. But I think that's more for the littler kids. I don't go on those anymore.

Man...I wish I could live there too. When I graduate high school, my parents are moving down there. :P So I'm not really going to be living there.

I was one of the firefighters on the scene all night and boy was that a blaze. I didn't get off the beacj until 7am. There were 3 rides that got burned: the Super Scooters, Seal Ride and, a game where you can see if you can make the bell ring. Also office building had smoke damage. Overall, the rest of the pier was structurally sound.

I just got back from there! I Couldn't believe that it caught fire like that! I'm just glad it didn't harm the Sea Serpent! The fire roasted the bumper cars, fried a kiddie ride, and slightly damaged a haunted house.
