The reason behind people believing that lelouche is still alive is based on the fact that when he touched his sister she got feedback similar to C.C. which is only shown with being in contact with CC. I personally believe he is alive, The director of the show said that he wanted it to be open to interpreted by the audience.

And you shouldn't call people morons just because they have a different belief then you. The writers and directors should have never commented on the ending.

Personally, I have heard that the PRODUCERS of the TV show let the viewer decide whether or not he is dead. Side character or not, C.C. gave the geass to Lelouch. She made a contract with him which was not fulfilled.

Besides, haven't you heard of Code Geass Gaiden (or something of the sort)?
