  • each member of gg played all kinds of instruments, and live they were so kind and friendly , loving their fans. a wonderful happy band .

  • There's so much that can be said about Gentle Giant but it's probably best to save the energy and just enjoy! RIP Gentle Giant!!!

  • Gentle Giant, the baddest of bad!!! "For Nobody" is one of my favorite all-time Giant tunes and it says it all. How could a band of such amazing capability come and go in relative obscurity?

  • @treed51 The greatest most underated band ever. Most people are into shit music and think that this bands music is to weird

  • I have heard of Puddle of Mudd from these comments for the first time.. watched a couple of vids.. I don't thinks they're a fail.. BUT comparing them to Gentle Giant IS FAIL.. for sure..

  • He tried to tell me that Puddle of Mudd was way better than this "gay ass shit"

That friend of yours is more than tone deaf and music illiterate, is a retard.

  • Back when music was fun!

  • yeah

  • Goddamn Badasses!

  • GG=the punks of the prog world!

  • Gentle Giant was best not just as a five piece band, but as a five piece band that stood out skillfully as a collection of multi instumental craftsmen. Their show was how they would transition from instrument to instrument. They could always play this type of music, but so could everyone else. I don't think they quite understood their niche as the Shulman brothers of Ray and Derek never felt quite satisfied the band had or could ever reach an acceptible zenith.

  • I now know the name of the best band of all time....

  • @Deon1956 Welcome aboard friend

  • I STILL don't know how they did it...

  • magic music

  • Gentle Giant is a one of a kind, incredible band never to be duplicated. No one of a normal mind can comprehend the beauty of this music. Therefore, I can.

  • I love the Puddle Of Mud comparison ...... haha! I mean with much respect it's like comparing Coca Cola and Wine, they are both liquid drinks and that's about the only comparison. Anyhow, he/she is just probably embarrassed about their own listening habits, so they thought they'd try to trash yours.

Puddle of Mud (LOL), next they'll be telling you the Village People is avant-garde jazz.

  • Comment removed

  • Damn! Why can´t I just listen to the music? Why does it upset me that they are such ugly fuckers? Am I that superficial? (Obviously... ) Yeez, what have I become?!

  • Anybody know if this is brilliance available on DVD?

  • @mitnostrebo you can order it on amazon. Its called gentle giant sight and sound concert gg at the gg

  • YEEEAAAH!

  • This is when it all started to fall apart........But remember the context........the guys had to eat and have a roof over there heads! Power and the glory and In a Glass House and Free Hand and probably Interview are peerless. Really.

  • @MrMeddled I agree with the pee-pee humor. It can be irritating. I also agree with Ian's post surgery voice. I loved his earlier voice, but the surgery severely weakened it. No power and he can't reach the highs. But in the day (70s) it was always far better live than Derek's. Lesser musicians? Hard to judge and it's subjective. Certainly Barlow blows away Weathers. Anyway, though you may disagree, Tull had precision and charisma that Giant never had. Derek comes off as a bitter, vain guy.

  • hpdrummer if you try to feed Caviar or raw oysters on the half shell to a MCDonald's or Jack in the Box lover your'e pretty much going to get the same reaction UUGHHH!! let them stick to their two chords and chuck a chuck rhythms like Punk, Grunge or Rap. Maybe they will evolve in their next life and see that music is more than just YEAH, YEAH, YEAH and a stupid robotic drum beat and senseless words. For the moment, that's all they comprehend.

  • O_O

Wouldn't you just kill for a time machine sometimes?

  • @deepseaelk I used to think the same thing about Derek Shulman viewing these Sight and Sound videos, but as more concerts have been put up, he seems to have been doing it for years... probably is just totally into the music, since even though these guys are obviously very complex, they are still having a blast.

  • I was a GG fan from around the time that Octopus came out. I thought they were one of the coolest bands ever. And while I don't listen to them much anymore, I still really enjoy revisiting the music from time to time. And these BBC recordings are pretty amazing. I have to say, however, that Derek Shulman comes off as quite the prick. Horrible stage mannerism.

  • @deepseaelk not to mention the fact that he (Derek) is responsible for discovering Nickleback

  • @deepseaelk Kerry and Ray were the real geniuses in GG. I agree with the comments about Derek, but is that really a reason to avoid such great music?

  • @Lepretr0n Oh, I don't avoid it. I've just heard it to death. GG was getting a very regular spin on my turntable for decades, starting in the early 70s. It just got old. But still, this performance is great to see. Having said that, if you like GG, you probably like Jethro Tull (maybe not, but it's a statically supported assumption). Watch footage from some JT vid from the mid 70s and compare it to live GG. Check out the diff in sheer professionalism. I'm sure $ factored in. Just an observation.

  • I cut my teeth on GG .... For Nobody on the studio album just blew me away with it's power .... But listening now, it is a bit dated .... They had their moment, and though there were flashes of brilliance, there we also moments when pitches werent in tune .... I think they call it 'pitchy' .... Derek Shulman had some trouble staying in pitch in the live shows ....

As far as 'better than' Puddle of Mud or any of that nonsense .... Beauty is in the eye of the beholder .... Silly argument.

  • This band is simply extremely proficient.

Only Gentle Giant has these kinds of grooves going for them.

  • Each member of this band could have had his own awesome band.

    They were that good.

  • Wow!~ Never saw this before. My favorite tune off that album played really well live. Nice!

  • These guys.. words fail

  • The worst period of GG but still great. Good times with Three Friends, Proclamation, IAGH.... like they said: With sadness today, hopes of joy yesterday, memories of old days.

  • Great songs! Could you please upload "Funny ways"from this DVD?

  • mamma mia....

  • Love it. One of my favorite Giant tunes. And this is one of the best sounding YouTube music vids I've ever heard. This made me quite happy.

  • Look vox face in the 6:57

  • Bassist at 5:57 is pure win!!!

  • That' s because he knows he's the best bass player in freakin' world..

  • @claytunes Ray is good but definitly not the best....Look up bassists like Mark King, Geddy Lee, or Victor Wooten....but one thing i cant be for sure but i believe Kerry is the best keyboardist ive ever heard....hes like the Neil Peart of Keyboards...He has to many!

  • @PeeceSells

i actually prefer Kerry than K. Emerson. Keith Emerson is an awsome virtuoso but plays for himself. Kerry is more democratic: plays for the band and shows his killer skills when needs.

  • @botequimdelivery I totally agree. That's why this band was superior. While both bands had a keyboardist main composer, GG's compositions involve a better distribution and use of the different timbres. Compared to that, ELP was much more keyboard oriented, sometimes even repetitive and boring.

  • @PeeceSells You must be kidding. Try playing a Ray Shulman bassline and see if it doesnt change your mind.

  • @roadtonever i have :) like i said hes good, but he doesnt have enough flair to be the best. nevertheless they are all badasses

  • I want a "Giant For A Day" neon sign like that one!

  • Wow! Thanks! I was hoping a live performance of this would eventually show up on YouTube. The song's a killer! (But it won't hurt anybody. It's For Nobody.)

  • Great tune, and almost flawlessly executed. This is one of my favorite GG songs and it's from what I consider to a pretty weak album. It was at a time when they were trying hard to stay viable.

  • Yesterday I introduced a friend of mine to GG. He tried to tell me that Puddle of Mudd was way better than this "gay ass shit". Our "friendship" is currently on the rocks. That's what I get for having high musical standards I guess.

  • LOOOOLLLLLL puddle of mudd

    thats soooo fail

  • @hpdrummer well he has a point...who are puddle of mud? are they like U3 and Lead Airship? Oh they might be good musicians and lovely people ...but when they were plying this stuff a whole generation wanted something to get pissed, laid and dance to....I was so so pleased when Punk arrived.

  • @helstontvx Hey dipwad, your supposed to take three lessons , drink alot and play youre own music.

  • @kayakbruce1 Thanks..I rest my case

  • @hpdrummer Maybe you need to "introduce" your friend to the the business end of a blunt object. Haha. My 2-year-old son is next to me right now and he's waving his arms around like Schulman. Even he gets it.

  • @hpdrummer

    your friend is fucking idiotic...

  • @hpdrummer

    Gay ass shit.

THats what my friends talks about too.

    All the time OMG.

  • @hpdrummer u should pick friends with brains

  • @hpdrummer your "friend" must have a brain tumor!!

  • kick ass video!! great two jams!! :) GG will always be one of my top fav bands!

  • Great song, great video!

    Thanks for posting!!
