  • I knew something was wrong with the title SWEET LISA...I thought "I'll bet it's really LIZA." Sure enough, he sings, "Liza...sweet Liza..."

It was 1929 for gosh sakes! The only Lisa anyone had heard of yet was Mona!

  • You're quite right. He sings "Liza", but the title reports the original italian name "Lisa" (pron. "leeza") 'cause this is a cover of an italian song, "Bella Lisa", as you can see in the label of the disk.

  • To me they were obviously influenced by the hot territory bands, particularly those in the Goldkette stable, McKinney's Cotton Pickers and judging from their 1930 recording of "Here Comes Emily Brown", the Orange Blossoms (Casa Loma Orch. )

  • Lord How Did I Miss Your Awsome Channel? I Love This Version Of This Great Song!

  • This is the first time I have heard of this band and this fine recording. Thanks for sharing this recording. The trumpets play a good hot chorus and the alto sax has a good solo too. When the trumpets come back in after the alto sax solo near the end of the record the trumpets are really driving hot!

  • One of my favorite early 1930's bands. Thanks for posting this hot tune.

  • That's my great grandpa Dewey singing there!

My friend put together for me a whole CD of The Thies Orchestra from our 78s and others. Thanks for posting this. This music should never be forgotten.

    K. Dewey

  • What a great orchestra! Too bad the fool killed himself over a woman.
