  • I like King.

  • The Selmer sounded like it was more smoothly played and the player was more relaxed with playing it, but the tone of the King sounded amazing to me. That's just my take. I'm looking for a new tenor with a rough edge sound. Anyone have any recommendations?

  • Incidentally, my set up is a Selmer VI with Berg ... if you want to hear it, check my video (it's more smooth jazz than traditional), but I like Berg best of all the mouthpieces so far -- particularly good for sub-tones.

  • My vote is for the Berg and the Selmer VI. Excellent!

  • selmer 10r

  • Great job dude !

  • Is there any difference in sound for the audience (i know there is some for the player) between Metal and Ebonite mouthpieces with the exact same specs?

  • king win!

  • Very nice!! you sound GREAT! im looking to get back into playing from when i was in high school looong time ago (43) lol,,what do you recommend as far as a private instructor or something?? and it sound like the Selmer is the best one to buy,,thank you.

  • Selmer wins....

  • I enjoyed watching and hearing you play more than comparing the 2 Saxes.

  • You have a really nice sound!

  • Wow man, you sound and play very well. Both saxes sound well, but I prefer the Selmer slightly above the King.

  • Dude, you rock at sax!

  • which berg larsen mpc is this one?

  • Nice { : )

  • The King sounds almost darker in the lower register, but brighter in the upper register. I like the Selmer better, you sound great!

  • Gracias... ya no tengo ninguno de los dos saxos, pero es cierto, ambos sonaban bien.

  • Selmer sound is very unique

  • Selmer sound is very unique

  • I like the King MUCH better, however they were both nice

  • I like the King best.

  • babrieltio ... Can you tell me what song is? I like it

  • of course... the song is "All the things you are"

  • Two great sax, twice with powerfull personalitie of sound, but diferents.

  • That's a later king, not an White Co. horn. Probably from the 1970's. It has a large bell, which is the horn's amplifier and a slightly thinner gauge metal tubing. Your sound is nice. Ease up on the tonguing every note. A bit much. I think the mouthpiece is a good match for you if you don't get too fatigued after a few hours of playing and start clamping down on the reed. As far as the horns.... man, it's up to you. You sound nice on both.

  • when you use a mpc with a high buffle like the larson or jumbo java for example, most horns sound nearly the same. this is not one of the real good kings. if you would compare your selmer with a king serial nunber between 295xxx up to 380xxx and play both horns with a common mpc like a meyer maybe there would be a great difference. but anyway this is a video, and we as a listener can never here the same like a listener standing near you. Good Job, i like this video, keep on swinging.

  • @david196564

Thank you for yours words... The MPC of the video is a Berg Larsen 2 SMS B (Bronze)

    Regards...

  • @david196564 I still hear a pretty significant difference, and the King sounds good to me.

  • @david196564 This is not exactly true. When u think of all the greats who played Super 20 tenors, a lot of them played Berg Larsens, such as Wardell Gray, Yusef Lateef, R. Roland Kirk, etc., & all sounded like themselves playing tenor & not someone playing a Berg Larsen on a King Super 20. Same thing with Coleman Hawkins & Sonny Rollins who both switched from Links to Bergs on their Selmers. Both legends still sounded like themselves as well. BTW Meyers generally r not the best pieces for tenor.

  • @soulfullyanointed you`re right, i made most experience on altos, they different.

  • This is not a King Super 20 or even a Zephyr. It looks like a King Cleveland. Good old horns but not in the same class as a Super 20 or a MKVI.

  • In the end, the guy sounds like himself on both horns. But otherwise, it's the same old story regardless of this chapter in the age-old debate--Selmers tend to be more laser-like and punchier in the low end but weaker in the upper register, while Kings are more spread down low, but more powerful and arguably prettier (i.e. "singing") in the upper register.

  • ok but i like the selmer sound better

  • nice you listen to alot of potter lol i take it that the first one was a selmer i think that sounded better then the king

  • The King sounds livelier and more "singing."

  • I like the shiny one (King i'm assuming) because it sounds brighter and punchier.

  • Please: Larsen number? And model: SMS or M?

  • Bien ahí gaby...!!! me gusta mas el king, pero porque eh tocado esos 2 sax, no por el audio de este video. Abrazo
