  • Two of the finest snakes go at it!

  • GO VIPER!!

  • @19elgato46 The "Fastback" was called the Daytona Coupe.

  • Why do people record video of a drag race and not show the ET?

  • I love that people are arguing the whole Shelby/AC thing when this car is, in fact, neither one. According to the description of the video, it's an FFR. That's a Factory Five Roadster. It's a "replica/kit car" or whatever you want to call it. Either way, it's an awesome car and I want to build one for myself!

  • @englane My grandfather owned a '66 427 SC. Bought it at the LA plant, and unfortunately for me, he sold it in '67 for $7k, thinking he was going to buy a new one the next year. Not. Through the years I've done a lot of research and found FF to be one of the best kits. One of the brother-owners took 30 min to talk to me on the phone once about their car and company. Nice guy, knowledgeable, and I'd choose them if I had the duckets.

  • wow anyone who believes wikipedia is the end of all resources has to realize anyone can edit wikipedia lol if people dont know what these cars are 40 years later really should stop the talking because opening their mouth just releases the doubt of if they actually know anything 1cobra427 said it best

  • haha i love that cobra! every man when he retires should buy one.

  • I owned an AC ACECA that had original cobra running gear from a wreck. The car was so light I could push it with my pinky across flat ground. Had really tiny footwells though. The AC cars handled really well, as they had to race aginst Ferarri Barchettas back in the day.

  • Guys It is called Shelby because Carrol Shelby was the manufacturer. His company was called Shelby American, the Cobra MkI & MKII were his models. He sourced the bodies and chassis, based on the AC Ace from AC Cars Ltd, just like any current manufacturer outsources components, and along with Ford, his company did the redesign of the chassis, rear hubs, diff body work etc to accept the V8. So AC Cars 'built' the body and chassis, Shelby was the manufacturer of the Cobra.

  • It is called a Shelby Cobra because the cars were raced by Shelby-American. Since Shelby-American only raced one car (two if you count the coupe, which is really the same car with a different body) and only sold one car, it became known as the Shelby Cobra. Shelby sold it (mostly through Ford dealers) as the Shelby Cobra. Call it whatever you want, it is what it is. Look at the videos to the right and tell me if there are more AC or Shelby Cobras. Actually, I don't care anymore.

  • I'm finishes with this trollercoaster. You can continue to be wrong if you wish, or you could swallow some pride and do a little more research. If you're so correct, you won't have a problem checking my source and seeing if its true or not. At least I can cite my sources.

  • @Reilloc13 I deleted my comment cause you say you have sources... hhmmmm, well I have read the wiki-fuckin-pedia and more!,, I googled the shit and so I say ol' ass,, your wrong! answer my question on why they call it a Shelby, and if you give me a reasonable explaination then I'll stop.

  • For future reference, I still call it a Shelby Cobra, but I'm not a tool like dacherl87 who can't take 10 seconds to look something up.

  • @Reilloc13 YOu are the biggest tool I have talked to in a bit so first fuck you bitch!! I did my homework, It was all Sheby.... everything! He had some engineering help fuck'O- and who the fuck are you?

What gets me is you call it a Shelby...>> go figure and it takes more than 10 fuckin seconds to be rally educated- your even dumber than snatchhog- YOU TOOL!!

  • @Reilloc13 - this is what makes you a tool....

  • @dachurl87 All that venom and you're still wrong. Its funny how you had to use my insult too, so I suppose that makes you dull as well. Look it up champ, Shelby didn't engineer anything on this, AC Cars redesigned the chassis to accept the V8 themselves and then shipped it over to Shelby, who put in a Ford engine. He didn't design or build the engine, chassis, or body, so where do you get that Shelby did everything? The next thing you'll tell me is that Shelby designed the Datytona Coupe...

  • @Reilloc13 - Pete Brock, Bob Negstad did that-

  • @dachurl87 Oh yeah, and further, the more you have to resort to profanity, the less intelligent it makes you seem. I call it a Shelby because that is the conventional name for it, and everyone responds to it better. All of my information is readily available to anyone, its on the internet, and is well documented and cited. For being so full of piss and vinegar you aren't even making this hard dachurl87. One more thing, the Cobra in this video is a kit, notice the silver side louvers?

  • @Reilloc13> first you called me an asshole, second,,, you have brought me no real information that is acountable,

Like I said before he did need some engineering assistance (since he is the only reason AC was still in buisiness at the time) but THe car was his Idea other than him not physically bending the frame and physically building the engine,, he designed the whole machine- SO tell me ol wise one, Why the fuck would it be named Shelby then? and dont say "it's a universal name" fuck that!

  • @dachurl87 I was being satirical of your calling other persons asshole. I should have quoted it, my mistake. Go to wikipedia, look up the AC Cobra. Everything I have said is there. It is actually a myth that Shelby saved AC Cars, which is also in the article. You can also look up naming conventions while you're busy being enlightened.

He didn't design it. Sure, he thought to put a big engine in a little car, but he didn't put pen to paper to make it happen; he just pushed the idea out.

  • @Reilloc13 - ANSWER MY QUESTION THEN!!! WHY IS IT CALLED A SHELBY..>?

  • was there even any question that the cobra was going to win this race?

  • I'm surprised the Viper didn't break down.

  • 427 cobra 0 to 60 to 0

  • GO FORD!

  • You dont sit in a cobra, you sit on it. Goes like sh** off a shovel though

  • I failed to mention it was AC but.. my point was that its not a Ford. Chevy could have been the one to supply the power, but they chose not to, ~point= Not a Ford.

  • Comment removed

  • @snatchhog.... what do you know then you fuckin clown.?

  • Comment removed

  • @snatchhog , let me ask you a question.. can you spell dip-shit? If not, go look in the mirror.

  • @dachurl87 you're stupid

  • @snatchhog - I can see you figured out how to spell...now, figure out how to think before you talk-

  • @snatchhog hahahahahaha you fuckin bitch! removing you comments-Just because your a gay fuck don't mean I am. and your just a chicken-shit anyway, leaving lame ass comments on my page cause you know your a idiot and can't replay in a intelectual manner let alone on the original subject. Get a life you fuckin cunt

  • @dachurl87 so you're an "intelectual",thats ok.I have no problem with that or your homosexuality.

  • @snatchhog.. I know you have no problem, it cause your pole-smoker.

  • @dachurl87 hey bitch

  • where was I wrong?

  • you should have replied to the others though.. not me,

  • Comment removed

  • prove me wrong then! dont just talk shit. that just means oudont know shit. I know exactly what i am talking about. YOu all "think" you know- .....I have stated facts.. back your mouth cuntlips!

  • Comment removed

  • go blow a goat you assclown

  • Unless that was another car in the background sounded like someone had a procharger in that vid. You could hear the whine which to me is a wonderful sound.

  • Yep, Vortech VS1 blower on the FFR

  • @djborden Ahh ok lol :P i thought it was a procharger ahahahaha. That is cool.

  • Cool race between two mean snakes.

  • who ever thinks the cobra is a fuckin ford your an Idiot! If it was a Ford they wouldnt call it a fuckin ford not a fuckin Shelby!

    Do your homework assholes!

  • @dachurl87 The cobra is indeed a Ford. The 1st ones were powered by a 260, 289, and then a 427 side oiler, which are all ford engines. Does Carroll Shelby mean anything to you? There's even shelby mustangs. I dont know where your research is from, but I believe you are thinking of kit cars from later years.

  • YOu are very mistaken.. ford is the replica!.... That was a Carroll Shebly cobra! not a Ford cobra... shelby upgraded the mustangs, like Lingingfelter or Hennessy etc... he designed and built the Cobra by hand. Its not a Ford.

  • In short... Ford didnt produce it until later-

  • the motor is a ford... thats it

  • @dachurl87 Normally I wouldn't stoop down to finding someone's original comment to correct them, but I happen to love these cars and hate assholes. in the '60s, Carrol Shelby was licensed to use the frames and bodies from AC Ace. In fact, he asked them to modify the chassis' themselves to accept a V8. He didn't design or build an inch of the car, so its really an AC Cobra. Calling it a Shelby is just as wrong as calling it a Ford. But its okay, you did "your homework" right?

  • @Reilloc13 is a tool fresh out the box- I bet you don't trolling and reading others comments.......just to seem stupid is what you did asshole licker,. I fuckin hate faggots that "think" they know shit. So fuck you! YOu wouldn't know the first thing about making an original car. your so fuckin stupid, Im sure you got your "info" off of youtube too right..??

(" Oh its a striaght AC ace biult car, but I call it a Shelby") hahahaha- YOu are a mong!~

  • And that's why Cobras rule!!!

  • @19elgato46

    got that right

  • Good race. I like the viper even though it lost.

  • Comment removed

  • Then u don't know cobras the 427 cobra had the fastest 0-60 when it first came out at like 4.4 sec. it's a light car with a one of the biggest engines at the time. The Viper is real heavy but a bigger engine it has a 0-60 at about 4.5-5 depending on the driver. If they went for about maybe a 3/4 mile the viper would've probably won

  • Comment removed

  • The stock 427 Cobra does 0-60 in 3.2 sec.

  • whe have you ever seen a stock scommon 427 do that-?? never

  • Not on bias ply tires, that's for sure.

  • They both have different sounds, but both are very bad ass.

  • i wouldnt go with a suped up 289. leave those for the stangs.

give me my 427 cobra jet, or a 351w

  • give me a 572 chevy big block in a 70 challenger and ill be happy =)

  • Negative. the ZZ572 is too big of an engine. just because it puts out high horsepower does not mean it would be the best. if i had a challenger, a blown 440 six pack would do just fine, and keep with the Mopar aesthetic.

  • i'm pretty sure the 572 could fit in a 70s challenger wouldn't it? ive seen it fit into alot of the older impalas.. 1972 kind i believe..and even some into Chargers.

  • They driver looks so big in there

  • The 289 was reportedly tweeked to 330 hp. so it was no shabby beasty. Supposedly it ran 5.5 0-60 and 11.0 in the 1/4

  • how does a car run 5.5 0-60 and still run 11 flat in the 1/4 mile....so a car that runs 4.5 0-60 which isnt all that fast would run what low 10's? i dont think so...those stats have to be wrong

  • )-60 times dont always calculate that way on 1/4 mile. Has to do with gearing and such for sure. How are some cars with enormous HP in the 5 sec range...wheelspin, so lots of factors involved

  • Hell yeah man last I heard cobra still had the title, "King of the Road"

  • nice comment - are there any differences b/w the 289 and 427 cobra other than engine? Why would anyone want a 289 over a 427? Thanks bro -

  • 427 put's a lot of weight in the front end. A hot 289 with modern suspension in one of those kit cars can make for a pants shitting ride through the twisties. But yea nothing beats the 427 for my tastes. I would trade my wife 427 SOHC Cobra lol.

  • You can get a NEW Cobra kit car for under $20,000, minus the engine, tires, and paint.

  • both these cars pull 1.1g on the skidpad

  • On a twisted road or race track I could not agree with you more. On a 1/4 mile drag strip the Cobra's high horsepower to weight ratio works to it's favor. As long as you can get the Cobra to hook up that is. LOL

  • definatly :P

  • Don't forget the cobra was originally designed to be a road racer. I'm not saying it would take the viper, not by a long shot. But the cobra wouldn't to to bad.

  • In it's day the Cobra was a great handler. The Cobra was originally a Le Mans winner. Spanked Ferrari's good in the early 60's. That was well before coil over springs. The original Shelby FIA spec 289cid AC Cobras featured transverse leaf springs to rebound their independent suspension, front and rear. There was no understanding of aerodynamics at that time, so the nose of the Cobra lifts at high speed, and it's body produces lots of drag which limits it's top speed.

  • That's what i was talking about :-) Also the cobra's short wheel base, high hp, and lack of driver aids hinders it's road race performance when compared to modern cars. You have to handle the controls like their made of glass, one mistake and you're gone. Modern transverse leaf springs have their advantages, and disadvantages over coils (the zo6's suspension for example). Just like all other things it's a design compromise. I imagine even the cobra's suspension has some advantages (even at40y/o)

  • don't forget, that Viper will do 200mph... try that in a FFR roadster! i get shaky over 120mph in mine.

  • That is why Shelby had the Daytona Coupe created.

  • Kinda cool when Carol Shelby's old evil spawn spanks a car that was inspired by the old snake charmer some fifty years later.

  • Damn straight!

  • ill call my KIA exotic

  • a viper is a high level sports car, low level exotic...

  • haha///FOMOCO... thrashed that Dodge.

  • wtf??? your an idiot!

  • ur a fag

  • Cobra of course owns the Viper!!!

    and fuck you, "espanol889"

  • yea my dad has a 67' 427 shelby cobra AC 505 hp it is a BEAST!!

  • bull

  • no actually not bull 505 hp 427 1967 shelby cobra with authentic engine but the body is a replica

  • the body is the whole point, i have a 427 motor that would go into one of those too, but if its not ALL original its kinda loosing the point of it being rare

  • i wanna know what they ran

  • mien lieberherr geswangsverein..

    was geht die kiste ab

  • carrol shelby hepled design the viper, without him the viper may have never happened

  • I love how ford Cobra, Dodge Viper, both Snakes, both Shelby!

    Vrooom Vrooom Baby!

    Cheers!

  • actually the viper is hennessy but they're both nice cars anyway

  • Shelby had a part in designing the viper. Right?

  • yeah he did

  • Stripes down the middle of both cars, the side exit exhausts, the name of the cars.

Id say they based the viper on it too =]

  • Ford is the best

  • This was an uneven race from the start. Come on, Cobra would whoop a Viper any day! Check out Weineck Cobra vs any Hennessy Viper, even the 1000tt could not beat it.

  • In FAST...all stock races, the 1000TT Viper broke records

  • Dodge makes the Viper but not a 1000Twin Turbo version of it. Hennessey tunes the Viper to make the Venom 1000TT. Last I checked a Hennessy Venom is NOT a stock Dodge Viper.

  • I didn't say it was stock, someone just said the Viper never did anything. Personally, I like the Cobra better, but I think they are both great cars

  • I am inclined to agree with you. I like the Viper. The ACR impresses me the most as Vipers go. the Viper ACR's 7.22.1 run around the Nurburgring is hard to beat. But the Cobra's race heritage won my heart along time ago. Personally I like to root for underdogs so I was pleased to see the Cobra take that run.

  • I tend to find myself rooting for the classics to lol

  • whine whine snivel well i would take a viper over a cobra its so much lighter........ price them side by side an original cobra and an original viper you a hole then decide ..

  • noooo the viper is not lighter at all.

    AC Cobra: 1920 lbs

    Viper: 3450 lbs

    which number is bigger?

  • lol, who said a viper was lighter than cobra?

  • the cobra is so much lighter than the viper, of course it won but i rather get a viper

  • The viper was made BECAUSE OF THAT COBRA. The cobra is much more rare,if its real, not a kit. They commonly fetch 500000-one million. You could buy 5 to 10 vipers for that.Come on. Are you 15 years old?Do you know the history of the cobra?

  • I would rather have the cobra. If i were to get an exotic, i wouldnt get a viper. theres more to a car than just numbers bro.

  • oh, and I wouldn't call a viper exotic

  • what would you call it? i'm pretty sure its classified as an exotic. an entry level one but still an exotic.

  • It's a sports car. Just like with the new Corvette's. It's obviously not muscle, but its a reasonable price for a high performance vehicle. A lambo or a ferrari is an exotic. I suppose the Ford GT would be if you were looking for an american one

  • A corvette was a sports car, untill they starting making them better and better. now theres a huge gap between the base vette and the ZR1. a Camaro is a sports car, an S2000 is a sports car. the viper is one level higher. its like a shitty exotic but a super sports car. north america doesnt have many exotics, except for things like the ssc ultimate aero and whatnot.

  • I'd still call it a high level sports car, as it doesn't have an extremely high price tag, or the performance of say, a Ford GT. Maybe a low level exotic. Then again, what a car truly is tends to be relative

  • that guys got balls for racing such a small car at those speeds with no roof. Have you ever wondered? Do you think dodge stole the white stripes on blue paint scheme from the AC Cobra? I just noticed it. I love those cobras, even if they're not the fastest or best performing, they're just so damn cool. The definition of a muscle car right there. Big motor, small car.

  • i always thought they based the whole viper off the cobra right down to the snake name

  • apparently it was based on the cobra daytona.

  • aleks6989,your a smart dude. The vipers were an idea from Lee Iococca to put out in 1989.He was the guy in charge of the mustang in 1963-64 when he worked for ford.He allways loved the shelby cars, but the stripes came on the viper after Iococca retired.

  • well said, u get a thumbs up :)

  • haha, viper got spanked =0

  • Cobra just owns the viper any day and the rumble of the cobra's V8 cannot be beaten XD

  • Those cobras are old but they sill look sweet

  • Awesome!

  • "1969 AC Cobra"

that was a type right? 1962-67.

  • real ones are worth $500,000 at least

  • The cobra is the reason we have speed limits in the uk, they tested the 1st ones on the M1

  • That is so true my dad got overtaken by one on the m1 they were doing a speed run apparently.

  • That is not an original cobra though-its a replica. FFR also makes daytona coupe replicas, which are more aerodynamic, and therefore faster on top end. They also acclerate just as fast. I've seen a built up factory five cobra with 700 horsepower...who says it has to be less HP than a viper

  • def not, if i had an original it wouldnt leave my garage, lol. i think the cobra has a procharger or a vortech. the "whistling" blowers.

  • Haha yea I've seen several originals and they are cool but I'd be scared to wreck one and the replicas are better cars anyway since the frame and suspension are all updated. Safer too... the old ones handle terrible so I've heard.

  • I thought they handled great as long as you didn't gun it. I've driven a Replica, but obviously not the real deal, so I wouldn't really know.

  • Nah they just dont handle well in general... or at least when compared with a kitcar, especially while racing.

  • About a year away from getting a lonestar Cobra myself. I am use to the idea of not being able to get too far away from home because of weather concerns and absolutely love the overall package a Cobra has to offer.

  • As long as it doesnt rain

  • Actually the cobra with the right plant can get 0-60 in 3.6, and stop light to stop light is all that matters folks thers no autobahns in the US. I like the viper too, but for less than half the cost the Cobra will out maneuver, out accelerate, and out class any Viper any time.

  • ummm an 1969 AC Cobra can go 0-60 in 4.2secs!!!! the viper woudl have no chance anyways! and for a 1969 car its damn quick! and sounds awsome! (best engine ford ever produced!)

  • tbh the viper never stood a chance. i'm a big viper fan and stuff but in a drag race a car with a 7ltr v10 that weighs as much as a house will never beat a car like the cobra which has less power but weighs as much as a paper plate.

power to weight ratio is better on cobra in otherwords lol

  • lol wat a pwnage

  • Great race, glad to see the Dodge get spanked.

  • viper is overall faster but cobra might have better acceleration
