  • Hi all, I'm a design student and working on a project based on issues regarding waste management at individual level. I aim is to develop a system that helps an individual to keep a track on the amount waste he/she produces on a day-to-day basis (just like how we keep track of our fitness). The effort is to help make us aware of our consumption habits and the amount of garbage we produce. And is there any way we can profit from our own wastes? Any suggestions/ideas are welcome. Thanks!

  • I hope Barnet council looks into Earthships and perhaps might become a THE leading UK council by starting a project build...They use recycled tyres, Photovoltaics for electricity, the sun and thermal walls for heat and filtered water from the sky...these techniques take pressure off of the utility providers and creates a more sustainable low carbon solution (we want this, don't we) ...we should be building with at least some of the Earthship principles...not to do so goes against green policy.

  • Barnet for LIFE!!

  • Thanks for sharing your video clip...

  • We decided to use a net with the new blue recycling boxes because of the ease of use and because experience showed that there was a tendency with the lids used with the black box scheme to be blown away in windy conditions. They were designed so that the net doesnt need to be removed completely when placing items in the blue box. But I appreciate that there may be an issue with some people not using the scheme properly which may be causing problems in some areas.

  • The recycling team has been alerted to your concerns and they will monitor Woodville Road, NW11 and if necessary try to work with local residents so that the area can be maintained to the satisfaction of everybody.

  • This system is a joke. Do you really think the majority of people can be arsed to put the net over the top every time? No. Look at Woodville Road NW11 where I live. For whatever reason, people there can't be bothered, so what you have now is a desolate scene of cardboard and plastic flying about in the wind, and various blue and black boxes being filled with general rubbish, or just being abandoned altogether. It used to be a lovely area, and now looks like a rubbish strewn dump. Too many flats.
