  • I go down to Otsuchi about twice a month and more often whenever possible. As part of the recovery efforts, we helped to do search and rescue, clean up, and food and aid distribution. Right now, almost a year later, Otsuchi is just... well there's something disturbing about going around the town and seeing the foundations of homes and the occasional building. I'm trying to capture it on video and trying to get the message across about the damage. But I think the videos say enough for aftermath.

  • @TK931112 We are a stock video company, we are not Sea Sheppard.

  • JAPAN IS USEING INTERNATIONAL MONEY FOR RECONSTRUCTION OF JAPAN, AND USEING IT FOR WHALE HUNTING, DO NOT GIVE MORE MONEY TO JAPAN.

  • @KhmerGirl2012 Fuck off -_-;

  • Duh, how'd that water get there?? Zoom in on nothing for 5 minutes...

  • cooooooll

  • cool omg birds going crazy sounds like the end of the world

  • omg the birds. its like a horror world destroy movie.

  • if u were on the tree when the wave came u would need to pray hard

  • Listen to the birds.

  • This really puts it in perspective for us thank you Brian keep this up you've definitely started something.

  • That person running across the road at 01:29 makes it seem like a movie. It must've been horrible to have been caught in all the chaos!!

  • Call me crazy but I don't think this video is for broadcast.

  • This is scary

  • Notice the broken water mains?the reactors have water running through them as well, they crack or break,no cooling BOOM.

  • no rush

  • Thankyou support from around the world.

    We are very grateful.

    From Japan

  • Everyone in the world.

    This earthquake Thanks for support.

    Thankyou very much!

    Thanks Thanks Thanks...

Please give back to the world some day will be.

    ※Criticism is fine

laugh at the victims of the earthquake.

    Thankyou!! from japan

I`m sorry if English is wrong.

  • Aloha from Northern Japan. The Pacific Islanders & I from Misawa Air base here in Northern Japan .. will be visiting this town within Sept. I cant wait to share our home islands with them all :C

  • The power of nature is just incredible, we are nothing compared to it

  • I am amazed that you see the people just walking for higher ground. Especially after 2004, I would have been running for my life to higher ground after an earthquake and the coming tsunami. Brian, were a majority people doing just that and not filmed? Thoughts and prayers still for Japan. God bless!

  • I cannot believe there is so much evil in a human, a dolphin is a so

loved animal by everyone, but being massacred in this way.

I think Nature returned blood as a tsunami. There´s so much hate in

all this kills in Taiji. I can’t describe in words, I really feel sad

    and I hate your nation.

    See The Cove Movie

  • are they still in Otsuchi? I really want to meet them!

dose anyone know where they are?

  • @d90movie Brian is back in the USA storm chasing.

  • @bnvn1 your first day with canon 7d? :)

  • at 7:22 something shoots across the screen really fast, what the fuck!!

  • why japan has so many white cars?

  • Once Japan rises up from the earthquake and Tsunami in March 2011, They should include a place to harbor large ships further out to sea.

  • 1:21 - probably a combination of cracked mains and liquefaction.

    Must have ben scary.

  • I wish I could read japanese

  • @majorpaine99 You can use the translator

  • Thank you for uploading this. It shows that even during a tragedy, mass panic isn't a foregone conclusion for all.

    Sidenote

It's sickening to read comments of people who vilify a nation for the business practices of some. It's hypocritical and pathetically small-minded.

Want to protect dolphins, become a champion for animal rights? Good on you, but the second anyone says that humans deserve to die and get eaten as 'karma' is the second they are as morally bankrupt as they claim others to be.

  • How did you get so low down and close to the land without being swept away. At about 7:48 the tree looked like it was only a metre below you?

  • @madlazza The were up 100 feet on the side of a cliff.

  • @bnvn1 then why did it look so low down? good camera zoom?

  • @madlazza Yeah they were using a HDSLR with professional lens on it for wide and close up.

  • @bnvn1 And 30 meters is close to 100 feet

  • whoah. if i was there i'd scream my head off.! great footage

    sorrowful, but amazing!

  • Sad to see good luck to you all, Its tectonic plate movement caused by the super "perigee moon’’ magnetic pull being closest to earth for 20 years, next one will be in 2029 Plan and build stronger for then!

  • @malcstag it's not due to the perigee, it wasn't at the same time (close but not the same) and it would be gravitational pull not magnetic pull anyway..

Do some googling and you'll realise what I said, I'm doing geophysics at Leeds university so I'm qualified to correct you :)

  • So many birds...

  • I keep coming back to your videos doing my best to find stories of survivors ...I am interested in how people are dealing with enormity of this event. Your videos are the perfect evidence that one must respect the power of natural forces and the people that live in areas often affected by these forces.

When that officer pointed and said "GO" ...your video documents that you did exactly that ...being the driver (if you had ?'d...) you are living proof of responsible driver decision making

  • This is extraordinary footage. It's truly amazing. I cannot believe it, but it's real.

  • After an earthquake that strong (and tsumani) I'm surprised there are ANY buildings still standing.

  • I come back to this sequence again and again. Its simple drama and tragedy is extraordinary - I'm sure many of those souls seen in the town in the early stages, running for some kind of safety as the siren wails, are no longer with us. And while the eyes are focused on the sea for signs of a tidal wave, it's already happening. The sea rises at least 2 metres in less than 2 minutes against that little island. And pre-tsunami google shows the island to be connected to the far shore by a big sea w

  • Hope that the fish factory workers and other people in the streets survived. You did the very right, to get the Hell out of the harbour area and up in the hills! No one can blame that you survived. You just followed the orders from the local police, to get up in the hills as quick as possible! Your video is an important document. Thank's for sharing this video, and good luck for your future. Thank your God that you did survive this terrible earthquake and tsunami!

  • the politeness and lack of panic of the japan people during the evacuation was impressive... sucks that the epicenter couldn't have been 20 minutes farther out , 9~ minutes is just too little time even for a prepared city

  • @giyamantibet2 Again, we are NOT Sea Shepard

  • @giyamantibet2

They are doing that. Apparently you missed that they are asking for help for the victims. And why do you try to turn this into a rant about whaling? This video is about about the tsunami; they are not even talking about whaling here.

  • I hope the fish factory workers survived.

  • U can see the tsunami coming around 6:00 at the back

  • OMG, thats really frightening to watch the video. I can feel the anxiety while you were driving up the hill

  • You were all brave souls among something So Surreal !! Were just thankful your all home safe n sound. Absolutely un believable God bless you all...

  • i feel bad

  • I've watched other video accounts of the Tsunami and I am sure anyone who recorded the images wishes they could have helped those people that they couldn't help. I watched one video taken from a helicopter and you could see cars trying to flee and being swallowed up by the water. I am sure those in the helicopter were horrified and will deal with the trama of not being able to help those people. They were witnesses and recorded the event. That's all they could do.

  • I know there's nothing funny about any of this, but I had to chuckle that you missed it (Is that all under water over there?). Good video tho, the whole thing kinda creeps me out.

  • sorry to hear about the dolphins quote Sadly, the news out of Taiji is no better. Although it is located well away from the epicenter of the earthquake, they did experience swells from the Tsunami. We heard that all 24 dolphins being kept in sea pens died as they were thrashed against the rocky coastline. Hopefully they will not be hunted again for awhile. Have donated to the people of Japan and to an animal charity too and will probably do so again. Thanks and glad you got home ok.

  • To find out how to help Otsuchi, google Otsuchi relief. The city of Fort Bragg, CA is their sister city and is doing all they can to help. As of yesterday, the survivors still had little water or food and no heat. Let's pray the helpers can clear the roads and start bringing in more water today.

  • The tsunami waves are really blue & clear at Otsuchi 07:52. Those I see on the news or in other videos are generally murky brown or nearly black. This is so devastating. Praying for Japan

  • wow wow

  • aceh quake-250000 lives

    haiti quake-300000 lives

    japan quake-80000 lives

  • @darkgodnaar are you from indonesia you know aceh too im indonesia

  • While watching the video I couldn't help but wonder what would have happened to all those people on the streets fleeing as they drove out of the city. There was an older man who was alone on the street as the car went past him. I wonder if he made it to safety.

So many people perished because they had no idea the massive Tsunami coming after the quake. So very sad.

  • @hrddrvto And people have asked why didn't they stop to help anyone. There was no time to do anything except for flee and try and get out alive as fast as you could. Reports are coming in that the town of Otsuchi is one of the hardest hit.

  • @bnvn1 Sidenote, it's hard (and potentially dangerous) to try to help anyone when you barely know what to do (where to go) and are not even sure to get out of it alive... All the locals have better knowing of the place and the procedure to follow in case of alert...

  • DAMN NATURE! U scary!!!

  • while watching this video all i can say is oh my god please help these people.

  • Great to see you are OK but hope you will not use the zoom so much next time!

  • Incredible account! It so nice to see you people had wits to take this, what woman voice on video calls: precaution evacuation. serious. Had you thought of contacting media about your video? I almost feel like doing it myself, however since you are the authors will leave you the honor. This should go on national TV. Really happy about your smart choice, great thanks for sharing.

  • @FlyerKBOS Yes, thank you, we have already talked to several international media outlets to get the story out but feel free to pass the story along. The footage is watermarked on youtube so that it can't be used without knowning who is using it.

  • OMG! That is such great footage. I was shocked at how calm people seemed to be as they evacuated. I also could not believe that all those birds would land in the rapid water.. were they catching fish??? Thanks for sharing such great video!

  • Praise God your alive. Thanks for sharing this video.

  • These people remained amazingly calm during the entire event. This video is hard to watch, knowing what we know now.

  • i feel so sorry for the people in japan this is type of wound that will never heal, wish you all the best and rest in peace to everyone that the tsunami took..

  • So they lost all the ships to hunt dolphins?

  • Did they get up on the hill or not? From this video, it looks as though they gave up on that and decided to hang around near the water. They are very lucky.

  • What about the dolphins? Did they head out to sea? Or, did they ride the waves in victory of not being slaughtered and eaten, or caned for later consumption. Maybe this year the dolphins are eating fisherman and a new ritual has begun. In all fairness, it is a shame to see such a beautiful place and it's people get creamed.

  • so sad...

  • Saint Michael made reference to an "Earthquake" and Japan 7 weeks before it happened...

Search "Saint Michael's Prophecy Japan Earthquake"

    very interesting WOW

We need MORE LOVE in the world and LESS FEAR everything that is going on is creating fear. Always remember that FEAR is the destruction of the people

  • who said "the hill, the hill" after Scott asked "Where do we go?" was that you Brian? WELL DONE!! Why oh why didn't more people go uphill? There are so few who made it to high ground, it is soo tragic!

  • If this is a storm chaser trying to get dramatic video, he got it. Of course, it does illustrate that you need to understand the dangers of the phenomena you are trying to document. In this case, they neglected to realize that the river draining towards the ocean would back up because the tsunami would prevent outflow. Thus, the river would back up...that's why flooding occurred BEFORE the tsunami hit. They were too low....and were lucky.

  • @fastprof1 thank-you for sharing this bit of information ...it explains why these people were so surprised ...this is drama beyond any that I've ever seen...in any event my intention was to TY I am appreciating the riverflow details that you have shared ...it makes sense

    respect

  • excellent video. That must have been a thrill to be in the middle of it all. Great shots, and I hope to see more.

My thoughts are with the people of Japan.

  • @WSPSkydiver lol i'm pretty sure there was more fear than thrill involved

  • I see pictures of Otsuchi now and it is horrible...did the town that we see in the video when they are trying to go up hill is the one that got wipe out? or are there smaller villages that were the ones getting wipe out? also how long it took from the moment the earthquake happened until the tsunami hit in that area?

  • @avidal7 They said it was the same town, they just escaped up into the hills and barely made it before the Tsunami hit. Some people have asked about the camera work and video quality, they were more worried about escaping with their lives then the videography quality. When the firefighters that were near them on the hill climbed up the hill to get higher, they were watching what was happening and how to get out, not the view finder.

  • @avidal7 Just 15 minutes after :( It's horrible..........

  • @avidal7

This timing was according to Sea Shepard team members that where filming a porpoise fishing vessel returning from there journey.

"The time from the Earthquake to the Tsunami striking Otsuchi was about eight minutes."

  • Happened so quick. Sadly many didn't stand a chance.

  • how come the sea birds are so busy? are there fishes for them to catch or are they mistaken debris as food?

  • @nanyangnaminori

In almost every tsunami video I've watched, the birds act the same. I don't think it's about food, but (instinctually?) realizing that the ocean is doing something strange and dangerous.

  • Im Never gonna live by the beach... ever!

  • I see it all on the news. but this makes it feel very real. You dont get that with the news. In my opinion anyhow

  • is that the same town who do that horrible things with dofins?

  • why my friend in japan lives there i hope she didnt die ;(

  • @prettygirl621 Same here. I hope they're still alive.

  • these kind of events should humble humans .. I mean we humans think that we control everything and that we are the masters of the universe .. Then such an event happen .. and we r helpless and speechless .. compared to astronomical events .. this event is nothing ..

  • Just Crazy!!

  • No doubt, an unforgettable experience. Japanese civil defense is second to none. That was some amazing video.

  • Are those birds actually fishing? If so that is crazy. Basically they waited for the water to push the fish in

  • this is a silent Tsunami

  • I am glad that you were able to record this rather than be stuck in the flood.

  • @lancel034 Japanese to English translation

I thought it was a valuable image come close to that tell of the horrors of the tsunami. To shoot accurately in danger as it would have wisdom and courage

  • Wow, just wow!

  • This is just awfull!

  • My son was one of the exchange students from the sister city here in Fort Bragg CA We Love you Taro Sato and the whole Sato Family and all who are there we are praying for all of you and hoping ur all safe this is horrible! We had our own evacuation since we are on the opposite side and slight damage but NOTHING like this NOTHING!

  • I was just there in November

  • how very frightening. i am glad they have this story to tell and no one has to tell it for them.

  • Great videos! Very scary. Im glad you guys made it to safe ground..

  • " *laughs* they're taking it seriously"....... and now you know why...... good job. Nature isn't as predictable as you think now is it?

  • @billy9038 Actually, the tsunami was predicted pretty well ;)

  • you should use zoom only when necessary. why didnt you focus on the ship?

  • @MrOranj They were not really focusing on shooting video as much as they were focusing on getting to higher ground since the city was being destroyed. Brian said the fire fighters that were there, they took off and climbed up the hill higher still so his whole group was kind of freaking out thinking do we go higher or stay here. Video was on the back burner to staying alive.

  • this is CRAZY!

  • Man at first I thought it was an area of Japan that only received like 1 foot waves, but it became clear pretty quickly that it wasn't...Hopefully everyone got to higher ground safely before it hit.

  • 6:20 "everything is flooded, how did that happen.... when did that happen?"

  • @Fromzon They were watching the other side of the harbor and looked back and it changed that fast.
