Just a wonderful song - great lyrics, beautiful tune and a perfect vehicle for Howard Keel's rich baritone voice. WHY don't/can't they write songs like this anymore? Don't try and tell me all the notes have been used up!
This tune sounds a little like the beautiful string trio section in the middle of the otherwise rousing "Homage March" in Grieg's music from Bjornsson's play 'Sigurd Jorsalfar.'
I just so enjoy Howard Keels voice it was the best of a great bunch back then....he could have sung the phone book...unlike some of the crap around today!!
In 1971 on leave from Vietnam, I took my wife to see Howard in Man of Lamacha in LA Tremendous voice and a big guy. Excellent entertainer. Thanks for the video
This is such a GREAT tune, the kind you want to sing in the shower and can't get out of your head for days and are glad because of it! I can't hear this song without thinking of "Oklahoma" with it's "hawok" and "heed". I do wish they would have placed it another whole step up, it might have shown off his voice just a little better. But, excellent phrasing and intonation, hard not to enjoy this performance! THANKS FOR POSTING!
stop making me laugh. I'm always higher than a hawk. oy. I love you. I used to sing hive full of honey at open mics before my friend blake moved to new york
Used to have countless good natured arguments with my Dad over which was the best song from this musical. He went for 'Secret Love', which is undeniably great, but I always preferred this one.
Not many leading men combined looks, charisma, presence and talent the way Howard Keel did.
Just such a shame he didn't really start to establish himself in film musicals until the genre was on its way out.
this one, secret love and blackhills are my favorite songs, although ill admit, it wasnt always that way! needless to say, i lllooovvveee this song!!!!
There is little or none "jealousy" by Fans or Admirers of these two. All the Guys support Howard just as much as the Gals. And Vice Versa for Doris supported by both Men & the Women. Thank you, Great Show by these Two!
I love Howard Keel and Doris Day I've watched everyone of there movies. But Calamity Jane is my Favorite musicial but my favorite show of hers is pillow talk even my kids love her and there 2 & 3.
the whole score is great a very very hard choice.
