I think Matt got buried upon arrival is because he just couldn't work a mic. This is supposed to an intense shoot promo, a promo that will define Matt for years to come, and it just came out lukewarm. Even Edge brought up how bland this was in a future promo. Compare it to CM Punk's worked shoot and you know why it failed. I do like the use of real life situations to fuel feuds, but his feud with Edge wasn't as half as good as it should have been.
It sounds sad but sleeping around actually put Edge over, before he would get no reaction even from hometown Toronto crowds, after this whole story with Hardy and Lita came out he was hated by everyone and made a great heel.
i have a dvd called "From the backyard to the big time" Matt says he was allowed to speak from the heart in this segment. However Vince / Jonny Ace gave him alot of heat backstage for weeks after. he was supposed to wrestle Edge in a steel cage at summerslam but it was called off.

And The Rated R Superstar really lived up to his name with that affair. Edge, Christian, and the Hardyz are the closest friends in the business.......

Not that I'm a Matt Hardy fan, but this wasn't a shoot in the traditional sense. Hardy was directed to say that because the whole thing was a shoot turned into a work. There's a lot of things you can criticise him for, this isn't one of those things.
One of the most mishandled angles of all-time, all the way around, starting from this moment. Starting with not having him appear RIGHT when his music hit, but instead showing him getting out of the limo (as was en vogue at the time, I suppose) and that cringe-inducing car accident comment, this was the beginning of the end of Matt's chances at main-eventing anything. Matt never got hotter as a face than Edge was as a heel, and that's never a good sign.

@Gcode25king No problem, and I enjoyed it too. But then again, you can't really say that, because this, believe it or not, is the only situation of it's kind. Other storylines had parts of it real, yes, but this thing was a direct jump in from their reality, something WWE has never done before, and unfortunately, probably will never do again.........

@Bakuru Actually, the Rated-R Superstar thing *came from this*. He didn't have that handle until after the feud was over, and when did this "Cutting Edge" thing on Raw and started running down Ric Flair, Michael Hayes pretty much said off-mic "you're only doing this because you slept with Matt Hardy's girlfriend".
They're all cool now, though, from what I understand.

@justinhighest Sad but true. Promos just aren't Matt's thing. He sounded like such a whiny bitch in this promo and went into full on shoot mode which really exposed the WWE. After his feud with Edge he amounted to nothing while his brother skyrocketed to the top. And now he's formed Team Jannetty (with Chris Harris) in TNA..the dude just can't catch a break.

Not that I'm a Matt Hardy fan, but this wasn't a shoot in the traditional sense. Hardy was directed to say that because the whole thing was a shoot turned into a work. There's a lot of things you can criticise him for, this isn't one of those things.

One of the most mishandled angles of all-time, all the way around, starting from this moment. Starting with not having him appear RIGHT when his music hit, but instead showing him getting out of the limo (as was en vogue at the time, I suppose) and that cringe-inducing car accident comment, this was the beginning of the end of Matt's chances at main-eventing anything. Matt never got hotter as a face than Edge was as a heel, and that's never a good sign.
