@vampirepichu4 There's Mars Matrix on the Dreamcast (which is an arcade port), Truxton on Genesis, if you want some challenge, there is Mushihimesama Futari on XBox Live Arcade, and there's also Ikagura on the Game Cube.

@jeabl I'll be happy to inform you that most of these games require very little system resources since they are Doujin... I have most of the Touhou games and my laptop sucks as a gaming PC, yet they run like a dream. All you really need is 512 ram, a decent processor, decent graphics card, an xp or higher and you're all set~!!

Hey, I've played some of these! I've got Cho Ren Sha 68k (one of my favs), Warning Forever (a little rediculous, but still fun), and XOP (which I thought had weird hit detection.)

(I'd also like to point out that Warning Forever isn't really much of a vertical shooter)

If I did make the video now, I would make it both Horizontal and Vertical (Since I have enough experience from horis from since I made the video). @PRpride20 The song is called 'Battle Again' and you can get it from the BGM files of the Ether Vapor boss rush version. I'm not 100% sure if it was in the BGM files of the vanilla game as well. Also ViperAcidZX has it uploaded on YT as well.

The song plays during every boss fight during the boss rush.

Fraxy is a great _shmup editor_ with an interesting control system and you can make amazing bosses with it. But it does not offer the player very much as a dry game of its own. And also since Warning Forever is already there I didn't want to include too many similiar games for variety purposes.

@lte7 holy shit you serious thanks but i found out how to rip the songs from all games like 2nd. 3rd, and 3rd bp, i found out by using a HEX EDITING SOFTWARE and re-naming all the .mv files to .ogg then converted them to mp3 so now im able to listen to them on my ipod if you want to learn how i can tell you just ask me and i could make a video on how to do it.

Its mostly horizontal but enemies come from all directions and you can shoot in all directions. There are a couple boss fights where you and the boss zip around all corners of the screen (your attacks automatically home in on the enemy no matter where you go), but yes, you generally soar from left to right in the game. I know some people make a distinction between horizontals/verticals, but if the bullets moved at the same speed I think there would be little difference.

There's definitely a lot of good shmups on this list. I've seen at least Ether Vapor, Kamui, and RefleX and I love them for the way they remind me of Raystorm (I haven't played Rayforce, so that's why I'm referring to the next game).

By the way, how would you best define doujin shmups? I know their fan games that are developed by individuals, but are they ones that are popular. And would you define certain games like Space Wing and Frantic (find it on Newgrounds) as Doujin Shmups?

Originally meant it as Japanese fan games developed by individuals (Hence doujin, not indie) but since I included a western game in here, half serious, half as a joke and a half because I really liked that game, I suppose I would count it as any fan games developed by any individuals.

And flash games are flash games, I don't count them in this category.

@jcdgcrh If it's done by an "amateur" and not a professional studio like Valve, Konami, EA etc. it is Doujin. The word we use over here is "Indie" so flash games would count. People often don't know the true meaning of the word Doujin and ONLY associate it with "fan works".

While Japan has a huge market for doujin circles to meet and sell games/manga and art over in the US they break it up into gaming conventions and anime conventions.

Blazing lasers for the PCEngine is easy i hear

i like to practice on shmups that have no stages but just get harder and harder as time progresses like Nolmtest FS and Rrootage

Rozen Diadem is a very easy version of touhou but its still a alpha (easy to 1cc in hard mode even)

Original BWR is _a lot_ better game than BWRPlus in pretty much every aspect, specially gameplay. Touhou games are basically almost all the same so it doesn't really matter which I put. Well if I had to put just one I'd put IN.

Come on... I don't see how BWR could be better, BWRPlus is just exactly the same as BWR with a lot of things added you can disable anyway if you don't like them...

And the slow motion thing made the game way more feasible. You just can't imagine beating the TLB without it. Even Mushihime-sama has a slow motion system...

Slowdown transition is not very smooth and it makes the game stagger too much, ruins challenge in lots of parts. Can be disabled but you are no longer playing on default settings (online scoreboards). Unlimited extends are bad idea for CAVE clones. Too many enemies which clear the screen out of bullets ruin challenge and create stupid stage milking. Uglier graphics.
