@hollowharmony1 i suppose because they were very fresh and different to me when i heard them, where as the older stuff is clearly more mainstream (dont mean that as a criticism) i love every radiohead album but hearing amnesiac and kid a for the first time was like exploring a whole new world :)
That's kind'a interesting lol. He says that he wishs he never even wrote the song but yet he titled one of his albums with this song. This doesn't make sense to me.... hell I wish it was the 60's lol.
"The song 'The Bends' is completely jokey, completely taking the piss. None of that stuff had ever happened to us when we wrote it. That was our Bowie pastiche, our joke song ! And I really do wish I'd never written that fucking song - it's become the bane of my life. Hundreds of journalists asking - every single fucking interview: 'Do you wish it was the sixties ?' No, I don't wish it was the fucking sixties - Levis jeans wish it was the sixties - I certainly fucking don't." - Thom
my favourite band and will always be, perhaps im just a critical bastard because im such a big fan, but this is really poor :/ i was there and thom just seems demotivated... shame, but i guess thats why we love them so much because you dont know what to expect..
It might sound like he's drunk, but it should be noted that he usually sings The Bends like this live. Look at other youtube videos of this song from the last few years, and they will all probably sound similar. Its just thom being thom.
Bullshit. I was there and the audience was into the whole thing, even the then-unreleased stuff. And whether the band wanted to be there or not, they were fantastic.
its so great to see jonny lifiting his arm us so high before each gut wrenching stroke. fucking brilliant. the whole band. amazing. jonnys guitar 2nd verse! 'the planet is a gunboat in a sea of fear..' genius...
The sheer power of the crowd when he sings the high "We don't have any real friends," makes the goosebumps consume my soul.

I've heard Thom's drunk-singing before, but this is the first time I've heard him completely bugger a song up with it.
MikoSquiz 3 years ago
doesnt screw it up.. but he evidently drunkish. u can play and instrument and be drunk. he might just be a little

Thom was obviously mailing in this performance. They had said before they hated V Festival and felt ashamed for performing there so...
The crowd only really reacts to the pre-Ok Computer stuff anyways so to hell with 'em.

Yeah it does. It sounds like Thom isn't trying in this performance. Which is possible, and that's a shame.

that's the beauty of live music... if you expect things to be exactly the same as the record then what would be the point in going to shows?

If you'd been singing it for a decade for idiots who wanted to hear it "just like the record," you'd change it around too.
