That is what always got me about this song...how it changes to a minor key, and the song shifts ever so slightly from happy to uncertain at the end ........almost enigmatic
This song is timeless!! I was 16-17 years old when Heatwave was peak. Brings back lots of memories. I can listen to this song no matter how I feel and it puts me in that energetic feel good mood!!!! Yes!!!..8-)
When you heard the first few instrumental bars of this song---it would make you run to the dance floor in the clubs. Even today---this song is still the bizzness!
@jfsgro, nothing happened to today's music. Listen closely... Half of it has 8 bars or less, ripped off from the 70's and 80's, with rap garbage written over it. It's still there!! ;)

I climbed on board in '78 -- I'm still climbing a'board. This is just about the best dance tune of the time, and "Daz Daz Disco Jazz" is great too! Love it!
@TheLightoftheworld9 REALLY!!! every time I hear grooves like this I am reminded of a more fun and carefree time in life, well hell i was a kid. But my older sister had to take me everywhere she went and was an avid "record" buyer. Oh the good 'ole days!

@21navyseabee oh yeah. since your now a retired NAVY Girl. Now go And Join The Village People Band. I heard they need some New Bitches To Sing Back-Up. and they sing "In The Navy" thats your Moment To Shove That Big Black Thick DILDO Straight Up Your ASS. LOL Now Dont Forget What I'm Saying Bud. @skush123456 If your dad is white as I assume, that shit is crazy funny!!. I'm from N.Y.C. and I heard some sh*t like that at 15 in Indiana. I couldn't get mad, cause real is real!

Just think, members of this band performed at NCO clubs. Temperton went on to work with Quincy Jones, The Brothers Johnson, Rufus and Michael Jackson.
Im proud to say that I'm 22 and I love this song. I hate that music doesn't sound like this anymore. It aint all about sex and killing. People use to just have fun.

I sold a London Fog coat the other day for 350 bought for 60 bucks in 77' still had the ticket lol. Too funny man!Now for that pick...
during the 70's i was getting into clubs all over pittsburgh with an identa facts fake id cost 10 bucks back then had all the bouncers fooled am 50 now and dont need that id any more but still miss the songs on the radio and one night it was under 21 nite and was told that i would not enjoy it because the girls were too young boy was he fooled pittsburgh's club was called the V I P 2001
TO A GOOD FRIEND IN LAPORTE,TEXAS!!!!!!SO SORRY YOU ARE SO WASTED WITH ALCHOL AMD ALL THOSE BEAUTIFUL WOMAN!!!!!! LOOK WHERE IT GOT U BABY VIGRARA AND CIALIS WHAT A DAMN SHAME U CAN NOT KEEP UP NO MORE YOU ARE SO WASTED SO WASTED PETEREED OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SORRY I NEED A MAN THAT CAN KEEP UP U CAN NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I loved growing up in this era- times were really good- I had a great childhood and was exposed to the music industry early in life- this was a great band- there are no more bands around these days- today it's like everyone for themselves- they wanna have ALL THE MONEY- but leave no mystery about love and fun...smh...
I was a nightclub DJ in the same club from 1976- 1986 and I played this and many other great funky songs during this time... I was way ahead of the wave I was one of very few female club DJ's during that time and known all over my city...not that it matters but I'm white...there was no female around doing that at the time...I had some wonderful times!!!
growing up just outside detroit....i got to hear soooo much great music...timeless because it actually has good musical content....and you HAVE to move when you hear it!!
awesome group, awesome song.......it puts the jingle in my jangle....why isnt anyone out there doing this kind of bass anymore, and the lyrics not bad either.....
When I finish grad school, I think I'm going to have to rent out an old building and have an old school music fish fry. Fish and nothing but Old School!
A great song that came out of a wonderful time period Today...nothing but negative vibe and talk of killing and death. Then, we lived to enjoy life and make friends. Didn't matter color, race or ethnic culture. We were about fun and good times!! Nice to hear this again.
Temperton wrote the song but the magic is his keyboard hooks. Snippet at 3:33 then busts it open at 3:49. Is it any wonder Michael Jackson hired him to write the top tracks for Thriller, the greatest selling album of all time. A genius ahead of his time on Grooveline!
70s born and 80s raised, but I love me some ol' skool!! The stuff today has nothing on this. They just don't make it like this anymore! I had the privilege of listening to this stuff on Saturdays while cleaning up around the house with my folks. Good times :)
I remember hearing this song for the first time and I switched to disco, funk and rap from hard rock and became the only white guy in my neighborhood walkin around with the big ass radio blasting the best shit ever!! ( And no, nobody bothered me, at 17 I was 6'3" and 220 lbs...lol) I miss just busting out the wheels of steel in a park and just starting a big ass party!!
l know you youngster don't about this but let me tell you we just had to kick when we heard this, the 70's was the shit and of course the unforgettable 80's.We had ball back then and.never did we want to hurt no one we just partied, till we could'nt party no mo.
we freaked off this at every party. n they had a dance contest up Dewees Recreation Center n the group that dance of this song were so hottt n i was in love with the steps they did. i wanted to be on the stage with them. this was the shit......1963.
THIS SONG CAME OUT WAYYYYY B4 I WAS BORN BUT I LOVE IT!! :D

Throw in that bass riff and it doesn't get any better than this!

Who knew a geeky looking white Englishman could have so much soul and funk? Hats off to you Rod Temperton!

@mimidec67 Yeah he's a pretty funky dude! He wrote "Thriller", as well as many other good songs for many well known Black artists.

( And no, nobody bothered me, at 17 I was 6'3" and 220 lbs...lol) I miss just busting out the wheels of steel in a park and just starting a big ass party!!
mgilezzz123 4 months ago
l know you youngster don't about this but let me tell you we just had to kick when we heard this, the 70's was the shit and of course the unforgettable 80's.We had ball back then and.never did we want to hurt no one we just partied, till we could'nt party no mo.
