I swear as much as an icon as Oprah is the only thing that comes to mind with this song is Carlton (Alfonso Riberio) doing that dance...lmao. Probably one of the most memorable TV moments!
GOD, this just makes me miss the early '90s SO, so much... You have no idea. When I was little, I remember sitting in front of the big TV in the living room, watching "Jeopardy!" at 3:00, and "Family Feud" at 3:30; both on our Dallas, TX, ABC affiliate, WFAA Channel 8 ("The Spirit of Texas!") Then, when 4:00 rolled around, and I heard this awesome theme song, I would head into my room, and watch "Disney Afternoon" so that Grandma could watch "Oprah" on the main TV... Man, I miss bein' a kid! :-(
thank you, Thank You, THANK YOU, JALDRIDGE86! Forever a hero to many! OK maybe I shouldn't have gone overboard, no? LOL, anyway it does a great service to many like mine who have searched high and dry to look for that great theme (I think 'great' is bit understatement of a word to be honest) only to find out it was in a demo album of a temptation, UGH! If only sooner. I left a comment on the wall of those watching the 'carlton dance' where to find you Trust me it's only the beginning. THX AGAIN!
@JAldridge86 I suspected McNulty composed the 1986 theme, but I've never been certain until now (I only know he used to be the Music Director or somesuch).
@5foot11dude Thanks very much, pretty sure it was the beginning of season 4. I've seen some early 1989 episodes around here with the original theme. I wish I did have that one. Thanks for watching! =)
A 1:41 time machine! wow. I've not heard this in its entirety . . . only snippits from commercial breaks and bumpers. Don't you remember guests crying, shouting, laughing, and trying to talk over this as it pushed them to the break? Ahhhh . . . this, is something you can hum; this, children of the millenium, is a theme song!!!!
thanks SO MUCH for posting this! This is one of those clips that you think you will be a easy to find on YouTube but turns out to be a white buffalo...almost mythical that you'll actually ever see it on here...excuse me while I get my Carlton dance on...
I had no idea this song was so ingrained in my memory but on her finale show, Oprah played a little bit of this and when I heard it I was like OMG because it transported me back to being a kid again...i prob heard this hundreds of times as a kid in the afternoon after school but back then I was too busy being a kid while this played in the background...i guess it stuck...ha ha
omg yes i remember this now esp those cheesy late 80s electronic thumb snaps lol !! sooo outdated. yet, i at 1st i didnt recognize it but now ..oh yes I do lol. Im pretty sure she had this theme around for a good few yrs- like until at least 93 or so?

Before Quincy Jones and Oprah Winfrey both became very huge success stories, didn't these two BOTH grow up in bad neighborhoods?
They are counteracting the stereotypes that people put on blacks who grow up in bad neighborhoods.
These two are such an inspiration
