I,like my entire family on my Father's side, are 100% Chevy fans. I remember when I was 16 years old and had just gotten my learners permit. One of the first things I did was start looking through the Car ads trying to find the Chevelle 454. My Father had no idea I was eyeing that car, but when he found out I will never forget what he said to me.
"Yeah, I don't think so, Cars wrapped around trees do not look good."
@1234clydey you wish that chevy made good vehicles i had a friend that got a new chevy silverado 2 days after he bought it he had problems with his fuel lines so yeah
A well set up 396 was more than respectable against any other brand.......in a lot of cases the driver was the detriment........but these days, anything even resembling one of these old torque monsters on the street raises eyebrows with "da man." You just hardly see them anymore. It was usually a traction issue with these cars. I am building a '68 Camaro SS at present, the 396 is on the stand, and the body is coming along. I KNOW the 396 will be as fun as the 383 in my Roadrunner. KNOW IT!
PROUD OWNER HERE...i've had many vehicles, nothing compares to the '70 ss...the new bodystyle was/is, ahead of its time. mine has the L34 396/350 H.P. th400 w/COWL INDUCTION w/ HOLLEY CARB...come get you some.
that's really fast 40 years ago and it's still quick today. but today's technology has come a long way. my car with a 3.2 liter inline six that gets 26mpg on the highway spanks both of these cars in the 1/4 mile (and it can turn a corner, too).
@demoskunk all depends on what car you drive, and is it turbo charged? and your tires, i doubt the car ur using is running on thoes crap tires they used in the 70's LOL and is it 4x4/awd? CUZ that makes a MASSIVE difrence. funny thing about turbo's and super chargers are that they actualy can increase fuel efficency by using a higher air/fuel ratio, thus increasing power and efficency.
I have got a very good hint for you to keeping the nice old Engine in good shape with todays ultra dry eco fuels: Use 1:100 API TC two stroke oil / fuel mix as regular driving fuel, that keeps the old fuel-system gaskets, rubber parts, alloy parts etc... and cast iron metal surfaces of those vintage engines in excellent shape...and it also lubricates the valves and upper piston regions. Most Porsche vintage owners in Germany do so :) Also keeps carbs and tank clean and rustfree
To all the ricers don't forget one thing before you start blabbering out stupid comments, classic muscles are very heavy cars and it's amazing that it can produce so much power to get moving and smoke any light weight ricer at the line of a race.
@niceboy60 I appreciate your concerns for our safety but personally I don't care if I wanna kill myself in a 1970 beauty let me. They don't follow the guidelines like modern cars do now a days and that's what killed the muscle car SAFTEY. They just stuffed a enormous amour of horsepower into a coupe and sold. It's basically a hunk of detroit iron with mean v8 no safety features AND THAT'S THE WAY WE LIKE IT
I used to eat those like Tic-Tacs with my '69 383 Road Runner.
Chevelles were all weight. They needed the 454 to move. The RR was 400 lbs lighter. Combine that with a 4-speed and a 4:11 Dana rear, and all the GM guys got to see were those big square tail lights. :)
@DylanR2008 To put to shame my smug neighbors who all drive Priuses and rub their noses into it so that when they go to Whole Foods they'll brood over it.
A series of genuinely desirable American cars. After these though, Detroit lost the plot and could not come up with anything so spectacular. These cars were the pinnacle of American automotive engineering at the time. Now there are desirable American cars once more like the Cadillac CTS-V, Camaro, Charger, Mustang and more. Its suddenly the swinging 60s again.
U fuckers saying the chevelle was a piece.. well guess wat!!! The 454 LS6 produced more horsepower than any other stock production engine in muscle car history!!! So stick that in ur juice box and suck it!!! O and if u dont like chevelles then y the f*** did u watch this video??? Stupid F***ers!!!
Sorry the 396 Chevelle was NEVER king of any street that I knew of. MUCH quicker street cars out there than the Chevelle...428 CJ Mustang,440 4bbl/6bbl....and more. Beautiful cars, owned a couple, but KOS, not so much.
This is for the guy that spats off about the " Jap crap" I agree with you that there will NEVER be cars as cool as the classics, but lets get real. For a daily driver, a modern car is the only choice. Lets see, going on a trip with the family there is not one person that would rather go in a 1969 Road Runner than a Toyota Camry. Your comments are not very realistic.
@laford1986 ...I guess you are refering tyo me about the jap crap. Well, I have a nissan (2005) in my garage too. I have not drivin' it since I posted that....I drive my 66 EVERY day. Just got back from Daytona beach, 400 mile drive.....realistically very enjoyable!!!
@laford1986 you just picked two of the worst cars for that comment one the road runner a 4 seater thats pretty roomy and two a friggen jap car? you know japan is the only economy thats doing well in this crash? because everybody buys there cars!!! wasting our money that going to japans economy and puting us deeper into the shitter actualy everybody is i dont see many american cars in japan now do I
Sorry to tell EVERYONE this, but the TRUE MUSCLECARS were built in the early '60's. Cars such as; 413/426 wedge dodge, 421 super duty pontiac, 406/427 fords, (t-bolt), etc...
I craped out 10 ricers today in my 66. I guess the ricers figured if they pushed the gas pedal down it would stick and their POS would kill them....or they were afraid.

Well, I've been driving for about 30 years, I've owned (and still own) many musclecars. To date, no Jap car idling makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up, they just sound like toys to me. And until you have driven one of these brutes, you can't uinderstand what it is like being pinned in the seat, and seeing the hood trying to come off of the ground! Keep your Japanese junk, it will no doubt rust away long before these LEGENDS does! Modern doesn't always mean better!
@koioo2 I agree concerning Pontiac. The Pontiac GTO with its design of the 60th-70th was/is awesome. For me it's the most beautiful cars ever built. And with that power under the hood, it was a real beast - but a beautiful, awesome, beast! Why does not GM keep just the GTO as a model with the design inspired of those Golden Years? The Pontiac GTO of those days is an American Icon! Like for example the Mustang and Camaro have kept the lines of design from those Muscle Cars years and that sell $!
@petereuropa i understood in to pontiac .last ceo manager did t understand about cars.azetek was a flop.abd G4 G6 where holden cars.don t know about Solstice
if ceo manager maby understood tradation of glory years what was pontiac about
might be divrint.other story is bail outs and obama rules regulations.
than can t ask american cars become compact cars.its about fat V8 beats in the car.than maby eccnomic wich its worser
@4BBodies I drive a '94 Maxima, but I'm not a fan of imports at all. But it was free so I would have been stupid to pass it up. Need some form of transportation, you know?
I really want to build a '68 Chevelle as a daily driver. Maybe use an LS1/T56 drivetrain, unless it had a decent engine in it already.
@dantae666 You r correct, there were some fast V6's........the Buick turbo in the mid 80's comes to mind. I don't think I would have the balls to do it now, but 20 years ago we had a Grand National up to 132 mph on the Maine Turnpike, and it felt really safe and stable. But these days I just like the feeling of accelleration, keep at it and hopefully you will get the chance again as well.
@4BBodies I have that same attitude my friend has a 1967 Chevy Comaro he built up from the ground and still working on putting a bigger engine in it and everything nothing stands in his way he has won every car show he has been to plus the burnouts he is currently running on 853 Hp
@niceboy60 - ok , your friends car is basically a shopping cart with an engine, a shitty ass honda, woo hoo, who gives a flying fuck? At the time, this was one of the fastest and meanest cars around.
You are missing the point. Not only was this car mean with its V8, but it sounded mean and looked mean. I would take a 70 Chevelle any day over a fucking Honda.
Dont act so high and mighty, American Cars can be just as good if not better than any other car in the world.
@riceboy60 at the end of the day,its still a civic. i feel sory for your friend, knowing he cant afford a nice car. maybe on day he can save up for a v6 mustang or something. 197 hp is not stock, stuid boy. your friend will never get stock mileage with aftermarket performance. and you dont add up hp by taking the claimed stock number and adding up the claimed improvements of the aftermaket kit. prob has a wing to push the rear tires down too. 14 second,a rt challenger could do that 30 years ago
E.g zr1 638 hp , without a visible rear spoiler , or even a stupid all wheel drive system so that car can actually use its own power
Muscle cars is all bout out of control wheel speen ,and Nevada desert drag races ,which makes this cars useless in any other part of the world , if you see the video ZR1 vs Lamborghini on youtube ,it shows a experienced driver struggling just to keep the ZR1 on the road , every conner is like a near miss
You are a blatent fool. Real cars don't need to be modified? Thats the whole point of the car community. Your stock honda couldnt pull a bologna string out of a dogs ass.The chevelle is american history etched in stone, and to compare it with a cheap-ass grocery-getting honda is ludacris. Hell, I'd race you any day of the week, and leave you with the same level of disappointment your girl probably has.
And as for the "anybody should be able to drive a real car" thing you keep saying, well thats just dumb. I like having the FEW of us with the balls and the heart to own a real car. How much fun is it to have something that everybody has? Driving a honda is about as much fun as watching paint dry. and this wasn't written just for you, it was written for anyone who reads it. Just show some respect to the chevelle, it will be here forever, and has more of a personality and a soul than any other.
@TheJohnnychevelle ...ask the ''niceboy' if a 65 Honda has a great suspension....next to a Pinto the biggest POS in the world...wait, the Pinto had more Horsepower.
@oakleycustom .....I'd buy one in a heartbeat (of America)....put a 572 in her...damn, that would be SWEET!!! Americans need to buy American cars...why crap on your country buying anything else? Buy American!!!!!
From what I've read; The Chevrolet Caprice will be making a come back just as the Charger of Dodge did a couple of years ago. It should be a V8 RWD fullsize Sedan just like the last Caprice was but with better style and a 5.3 or 6.2L V8. This will finaly replace the the out dated Impala.
@Skippy585 i agree with ya. in "Hot Rod" mag. the Chevy Caprice was titled one of the next cars to be named as a "muscle car" due to the V-12 police motor, brakes, wheels, ect.
V-12?? News to me, I find it a shame that GM didn't make an aluminum version of there 8100 vortech (496cid) in the Corvette or Camera, and mated it up with the GM 6L80E auto. Imagine the look on Niceboy60 (I guess some Eurofag) once you blow him off the interstate due to shear shock!!!
@Skippy585 ya well the v-12 maybe be new to you. thats what i thought at first but i remembered that i friend of mine has one with a blown v-12 sitting in his trees. use to belong to his brother who bought it at a city auction.
Would it be considered bad if i owned a clone of a chevelle SS?? i know summ ppl like the real thing but i have 2 much respect for it 2 mess up an antique the way i drive
Jesus i wish the Chevelle i found would have been a SS, but i'm happy with my 70 Malibu. But i would to scared to drive it, if i wrecked it. Now if only mine would run.
id love to have a 70 cortez silver with black ss stripesblack vinyl top and the of course the ls6 with an m22 rockcrusher 4 speed tranny 12 rear and 430 gears. thatll be an awesome streeter...
Chevelles where sweet rides, I like my vette better though ;) But my vette is considered America's sports car, not a muscle car like the chevelle. But anyway I still like the chevelle, sharp ride.
well im sorry to rain on your pretty-boy-bowtie parade, but the chevelle ss 454 so called glorious "king of the muscle cars" is simply a slow disgrace to its sleeper cousin that should have gotten all the fame. these 454s are delicate and horribly belittled by another GM big block that is only one cube bigger. thats right im talkin B U I C K. just realize that 1 more cubic inch made 1 less second on the 1/4. i used 2 like big popular sports cars like these, but i matured and grew out of it.
Did you guys know that GM has software programed into thier machines to make these Bad Boys again? It's true. It was on The Speed Channel the other day...but you have to fork over about $100,000 MINIMUM to get one of these monsters made again. Jay Leno I guess had like 5 made just for him. Sounds like my 401K is going towards a 1969 Dodge Daytona! haha.
I,like my entire family on my Father's side, are 100% Chevy fans. I remember when I was 16 years old and had just gotten my learners permit. I am injection and weber carb specialist in Germany
located in Stuttgart. Older cars need some additional protection against
the E10 fuel and E5 fuel these fuels contain aggressive ethanols and
this causes fuel system corrosion and engine wear. A good two stroke oil
contains certain additives to preventing these aggressive radical chemistry in modern fuel. I wish you some fun with your nice vintage car!

The Pontiac GTO of those days is an American Icon! Like for example the Mustang and Camaro have kept the lines of design from those Muscle Cars years and that sell $!

Never seen a Rice burner that rust. The new ones any-way. But, I agree Muscle cars are always better for a smile when you gun it.
I just wonder will Fords new Ecoboost change the way we look at our view of traditional V8 VS High Tech V6.
365HP and 420 Ft LBS is pretty impressive for a 226 cid V6.

dantae666 9 months ago
@dantae666 You r correct, there were some fast V6's........the Buick turbo in the mid 80's comes to mind. I don't think I would have the balls to do it now, but 20 years ago we had a Grand National up to 132 mph on the Maine Turnpike, and it felt really safe and stable. But these days I just like the feeling of accelleration, keep at it and hopefully you will get the chance again as well.
4BBodies 9 months ago
@4BBodies I have that same attitude my friend has a 1967 Chevy Comaro he built up from the ground and still working on putting a bigger engine in it and everything nothing stands in his way he has won every car show he has been to plus the burnouts he is currently running on 853 Hp

super sport ss 454 Muscle car ha ha ha ha
v8 450 hp ????????
how this American cars are so slow
15s (Standard) to 1/4 mile 2:58
my friend civic type r takes 14.6s to 1/4 mile it has only 197 hp , 2L engine with 4 cilinders 31mpg
American cars are only good in America
Sorry my American fellows but that is the true
Other car nations with half of the power made much faster cars ( even at that time)
niceboy60 2 years ago
The technology is 40 years old.
tamapalagi 2 years ago
@niceboy60 - ok , your friends car is basically a shopping cart with an engine, a shitty ass honda, woo hoo, who gives a flying fuck? At the time, this was one of the fastest and meanest cars around.
You are missing the point. Not only was this car mean with its V8, but it sounded mean and looked mean. I would take a 70 Chevelle any day over a fucking Honda.
Dont act so high and mighty, American Cars can be just as good if not better than any other car in the world.
bucnasty619 2 years ago 3
@riceboy60 at the end of the day,its still a civic. i feel sory for your friend, knowing he cant afford a nice car. maybe on day he can save up for a v6 mustang or something. 197 hp is not stock, stuid boy. your friend will never get stock mileage with aftermarket performance. and you dont add up hp by taking the claimed stock number and adding up the claimed improvements of the aftermaket kit. prob has a wing to push the rear tires down too. 14 second,a rt challenger could do that 30 years ago

@Skippy585 fellow nothing changed regarding muscle cars >
E.g zr1 638 hp , without a visible rear spoiler , or even a stupid all wheel drive system so that car can actually use its own power
Muscle cars is all bout out of control wheel speen ,and Nevada desert drag races ,which makes this cars useless in any other part of the world , if you see the video ZR1 vs Lamborghini on youtube ,it shows a experienced driver struggling just to keep the ZR1 on the road , every conner is like a near miss
niceboy60 1 year ago
this cars have massive engines but no grip at all (as standard)
In my personall opinion this cars are a dead trap
Before replying isulting read carfully the next paragraph
If you put a big v8 in a car you need to make sure that the car can actually use it , grippy tyres , sport , suspeension , weight ballanced etc.
otherwise it will try to kill you
This American cars ignored every single
comon sence rule
Is safer to send a teenager to war instead guive him a mucle car
niceboy60 2 years ago
exactly...my uncle told me stories about his candy apple red 69 Chevelle...he couldn't keep the power to the wheels..."wheel hop"
snaple07 2 years ago
@niceboy60 it helps if you actually know how to drive. these cars werent made for little kids who drive hondas
TheJohnnychevelle 2 years ago
You see ?
You just made my point every one can drive a japonese car ,they are easy and safe to drive. (even kids)
Not just the super drivers like you
You are completely correct
I havent got the skill to drive cars with no ABS no stability control ,No weight balance , No gripy tyres ,no handling
In fact if i drive this Muscle cars they will just kill me even if I try to go straight
Cars should be easy to drive for every one not just for special people like you

A chevelle with an updated suspension will outhandle any honda, any day of the week. Now go put your legos away its your bedtime
TheJohnnychevelle 2 years ago 2
I love you knowledge about cars !!!
Thanks for agreeing with me and recognising ,that the original Chevelle suspension is reckless and dangerous and needs to be replaced urgently
Just to be able to handle has a normal
Honda civic
Real cars dont need to be modified it defeats the all propose of having one
niceboy60 2 years ago
You are a blatent fool. Real cars don't need to be modified? Thats the whole point of the car community. Your stock honda couldnt pull a bologna string out of a dogs ass.The chevelle is american history etched in stone, and to compare it with a cheap-ass grocery-getting honda is ludacris. Hell, I'd race you any day of the week, and leave you with the same level of disappointment your girl probably has.
TheJohnnychevelle 2 years ago
And as for the "anybody should be able to drive a real car" thing you keep saying, well thats just dumb. I like having the FEW of us with the balls and the heart to own a real car. How much fun is it to have something that everybody has? Driving a honda is about as much fun as watching paint dry. and this wasn't written just for you, it was written for anyone who reads it. Just show some respect to the chevelle, it will be here forever, and has more of a personality and a soul than any other.
TheJohnnychevelle 2 years ago
@TheJohnnychevelle ...ask the ''niceboy' if a 65 Honda has a great suspension....next to a Pinto the biggest POS in the world...wait, the Pinto had more Horsepower.

axeman7000 1 year ago
@oakleycustom
Skippy585 1 year ago
@Skippy585 i agree with ya. in "Hot Rod" mag. the Chevy Caprice was titled one of the next cars to be named as a "muscle car" due to the V-12 police motor, brakes, wheels, ect.
oakleycustom 1 year ago
@oakleycustom
Skippy585 1 year ago
@Skippy585 ya well the v-12 maybe be new to you. thats what i thought at first but i remembered that i friend of mine has one with a blown v-12 sitting in his trees. use to belong to his brother who bought it at a city auction.

well im sorry to rain on your pretty-boy-bowtie parade, but the chevelle ss 454 so called glorious "king of the muscle cars" is simply a slow disgrace to its sleeper cousin that should have gotten all the fame. these 454s are delicate and horribly belittled by another GM big block that is only one cube bigger. thats right im talkin B U I C K. just realize that 1 more cubic inch made 1 less second on the 1/4. i used 2 like big popular sports cars like these, but i matured and grew out of it.

Did you guys know that GM has software programed into thier machines to make these Bad Boys again? It's true.
