@ah1106onps3 Agreed that they had POTENTIAL, but you can't really say that they were "good" when they went 4-8 and most of their losses were absolute BLOODBATHS, including 46-22 against Cal, 44-16 against Iowa, 28-7 against Minnesota, 42-24 against Wisconsin (I was there...I left in the third quarter), 49-3 against UM (God help me) and 61 to fucking 7 against Penn St. Again though, it was eight years ago and it's ancient history now. Whatever.
Man it was nice to hear Tony Roberts call on this play. I really miss that guy, though Don Criqui is very good. It's just that I grew up with TR and he is still imo the best.
yeah he probably does have an education that actually leads to relevant contributions in society today, and no basket weaving at your school isnt a relevant contribution.
I remember this was my junior year of high school, i was at my dad's house. he was sleeping but he quickly woke up once arnaz battle broke into the open field, my brothers and I made so much noise
ARE YOU KIDDING ME?? Yeah, REEAALLL awesome coach. He really kicked ass at Washington. Go check on his record, and get back to me.
The higher ups at ND saw the writing on the wall and did the right thing. Weis may have won with that Brady Quinn Class, but he also lost with the next 3 classes that didn't even rate in the top 25 handed to win by losingham.
They did him wrong??!! If you come back with the race card I will send you home packing.
with Willingham's dominate performances against USC and what a great job of recruiting he did in his last two years i dont understand why anyone would fire him..
But Notre Dame did not renew the Westwood One contract after the 2007 because of financial problems. I'm not sure who covers it now, but it's on a different station here in South Bend.
He was the best imo, I miss tony alot. ND football aint the same without him. But he probably would have had a heart attack seeing how the Irish played after he left. Don Criqui is okay, but nobody is like Tony...
Wow. I remembered the "Touchdown Irish! Arnaz Battle, from Dillingham!" line but never knew where it was. I've watched videos of the ending of this game everywhere but never heard it. Then I watched this the full way through.
Why cant this video include Rogers catch on the possesion before. That catch was one of the best ive ever seen in my life, but there is no video that I can find that shows it. I was in the stands for this game, it sucked, but it was a good game, I want to see that catch tho.
i love beating the classless spartans any day but one thing is for sure, we have to beat them at home in south bend. i've been there the last 3 times they've beat us there and its so miserable when the game is over. you just wanna strangle and kill all those spartan faggots.
how did ND finish that year 9-4? Ty sucked Weis sucks (present tense) last good coach was Holtz. Battle would have been stopped for a four yard gain if Nelson hadn't slipped. Typical State mistake is all this video shows.
by your comment I suspect that you think I'm a state fan. If you read my comments on state fan videos you will see I'm not...I like making fun of both schools. 10-3 with another bowl loss huh? nice job there ND.
There were two way more amazing plays in this game, both made by Charles Rogers. One, a catch against a ND player's helmet, two, a touchdown catch where he grabs the ball falling out of the endzone and sticks one foot down just inbounds. It was disgusting. Is it on youtube? Of course not. Because MSU blew the game on pop warner-level tackling on this stupid play.
i tell you one thing, i wish it was next year already. i'm so ready for this season to end. all these games have been really hard to stomach. if they're going to have a stink of a season this year, the seasons to follow better be worth going through all this. and in 2009 when the faggot spartans come back to south bend we better beat those sons of bitches. those sons of bitches always somehow find a way for us and it needs to stop. those guys and that school are fucking shit!
You could make the same argument that Weis took Willingham's recruits to a few bowl games too. Weis didn't recruit Quinn, McKnight, or Samardzija (sp?). He improved the team a little, rolled through a few soft schedules (Who is the best team they have beaten since he got there? Penn State in 2006?), and got blown out in the big games he coached in.
But Weis is the one who turned those players into winners. I don't need to tell you that Brady Quinn set almost every passing record in Notre Dame history. Seriously, go look up Quinn and Samardzjia's (sp?) stats in '03 and '04 and then in '05 and '06.
No, he was just a reserve. But the fact that he went from being nobody to the all-time Notre Dame leader in touchdown receptions and yardage should tell you something about the two coaches.
Notre Dame got into this mess by firing Willingham after a 6-5 season. Will they fire Weis after a 4-8 season? Unless there is a drastic improvement, then that is exactly what Notre Dame fans will be facing.
He got more than one chance buddy. Granted, he took over Davie's mess, but Ty did nothing to improve the situation and actually made it worse. Go to NDNation dot com, click on roster, then count the upperclassmen. That is the reason they switched to a 3-4 on defense, because they had no depth whatsoever at D-line (they're still thin).
Now go to Scout dot com and look at the recruiting rankings. Ty couldn't even dream even coming close to that. Bottom line: Weis is actually trying to improve, while Willingham didn't give a rat's ass about his job. (he talked to Washington WHILE HE WAS STILL AT ND!)
Don't forget also, he was ordered by Notre Dame to fire his horrid offensive coordinator...and he flat out said no. Then Washington told him to do it, and he did.
Bottom line: If he could have done what he's been doing lately (with UW) against USC while he was with Notre Dame, he would have won many more games and still have his job.
Yeah- in his first year. But by the end of '03, Willingham was losing to Syracuse by four touchdowns. And again, he did nothing to improve the situation.
hey nelz, hes a friend of ours i think that u would be sayin the same thing if he was a friend of yours too..anyways hes off to a great start at Washington this year pounding syrcuse
I remember hearing this in my drive way on the radio after a trip to the store. I almost bumped my head on the roof! I sat in the car for remainder of the game. Great time!
Willingham got 3 years buddy...not 2. His last one being 6-5; and let me let you in on something - according the Notre Dame standards that's not "so-so" it's pretty damn shitty.
Also Willingham's recruiting classes barely made the Top 25 every year he was there. Weis has had everyone in the Top 10 so far...and they're 1st in 2008 so far.
They clearly made the right choice in firing him...don't make posts "CDean" when you have no idea what your talking about.
They never should have fired coach willingham he played at MSU with my dad and was a great guy for ND...one "so so" season at ND (his 2nd year) and hes gone.....so sad to me
thats horse shit.... he had 2 seasons of .500 and below... his first year he went to a bowl with davies recruits and got blown out in every big game he ever played in
Does anybody have video from this game of that incredible one-handed catch that Charlie Rogers made in the back of the endzone with two defenders draped all over him? I remember being so pissed about that play (cuz I love ND), but looking back I have to admit that was one incredible act of athleticism

I remember listening to this on the radio at work and running around the back room in excitement right after I was so mad they let Mich St score again on 4th down right before that.
"Holy Rudy, can you beat that?" I love this play...it was a magical 8-0 start. This is when Brent Musberger and ABC liked nd. They loved Willingham. You won't hear this type of enthusiasm from Musberger in ND's comeback win this year.
I say nah to the block S...I love the Spartie on the helmet cause its unique (there are tons of "States") but i loved the jerseys we had that year...bring them back

Sometimes you can't go by record...you actually have to watch how they play, which most ND fans just tune into the box score.
Weis has already been to 2 BCS bowls...you can't realistically say Weis and Willingham are equal coaching at Notre Dame.
And if you honestly do....it's you ND fans that give the real ND fans like me and many more a bad reputation...by just saying stupid shit.
